Q: Teaching degree?
I have my bachelors in communications and I am thinking about going back to school to teach maybe middle school or highschool. Do i need to get another bachelors degree in teaching or just a certificate or a masters...?
A: Checking with the state is the best place to start.
I had a BA in communication and became an English teacher. You enroll in a credential (certificate) program, but I had to also take about six English classes to fulfill credits that were lacking in my undergrad record because I wasn't an English major.
If you have a lot of experience in undergrad in the subject area you want to teach, this won't be a problem. But you might have to take some additional courses to fulfill all the requirements.
Additional degrees in education are not going to help you much unless you want to get into administration or postsecondary education some day.
Q: What are some really good colleges located in NY for a teaching degree?
A Teaching Degree such as elementary/middle/high school teachers. Not a professor at college. I know that you need to go to some college to learn some material, and then some teaching school for a few years, but whats are some good ones in NY or around that area?
A: Columbia Teacher's College is fantastic - and a while back, I would have recommended it, but now with their ongoing actions (inviting Ahmadinejad, seeking to grant tenure to Nadia Abu el Haj (http://www.nadiaabuelhaj.com) and other anti-Israel professors, I'd give it a skip and look elsewhere.
Good luck!
Q: Is it necessary to get a teaching degree in order to become a college professor?
I'm a graphic designer and i'm interested in teaching either design or literature/english comp but at a college level. Do i just need a master's degree or do i need to go back to school and get a teaching degree?
A: A teaching degree prepares you to teach high school or elementary school, not college.
You will certainly need a Master's degree to teach at the college level, and most schools will require a Ph.D. It's a rare Professor who doesn't have a doctorate.
Q: What other jobs do you recommend for someone with a teaching degree?
Currently in my 3rd year of teaching in an urban Seattle school. I am thinking of leaving the profession or finding another job related to the field. I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education.
Looking for something with a less stressful environment and will not take a dip in pay (about 35k). I have looked at some of the learning centers around the area like KinderCare and Sylvan, but most are for part-time positions and the pay is...well...less.
A: a school counsellor? just get a psych degree...a lot of people in my uni are doing a b.education maj in psych.
maybe you could be a tutor...they make so much money and not stressful at all...
Q: Will a French teaching degree allow me to teach in the United States?
I speak French and Spanish and hold a B.A. in Spanish. I would like to study in France and I am considering getting a Master's degree in Teaching French as a Second Language from a French university. If I obtain this degree will I then be able to teach French in a public high school in the United States? Or will I need an additional degree/certification? Also, will I be allowed to teach Spanish as well?
A: A French teaching degree on its own won't allow you to teach in the USA. You will need your transcripts be evaluated in the USA and if you intend to teach Primary or Secondary education, i.e., K-12, then you will need to also earn a teacher certification, or licensure. Each state is different, so you will need to determine where you would like to immigrate and teach. the link below will help you with that. The teaching work VIsa will also be required if you are not a US Citizen. GOod Lvck.
As for teaching Spanish, it truly depends on your credentials and ability, but it is possible with the above guidance.
Q: Do you need a teaching degree to work as a substiture?
My fiance wants to teach middle or high school history, but his undergrad won't be in teaching. Can he work as a sub while he's in school for a master's in education?
*Our school only requires a 4 year degree to do whatever you want in grad school. Like a biology major could do the MBA program.
A: No. But you need to learn how to spell to teach.
Q: How to get my teaching degree fast?
I am about to graduate high school and I would like to know how fast I can get my teaching degree and what is the best way to go about it. I would like to teach governemnt and coach cheerleading.
A: Government isn't a critical shortage area. That doesn't mean it's impossible to find a job, just more difficult. Major in poly sci and then do an accelerated teaching certificate program. You can do that in as little as 7 months and it makes you fully eligible for professional certification. The reason not to major in education is that if you decide to leave teaching it is much more difficult to get a job in the private sector with an education degree--you'd be much better off having that poly sci or whatever undergrad degree.
Q: If I receive my teaching degree is there anyway I can receive my teaching license without student teaching?
I will be receiving my teaching degree but my school says I will not be certified to teach unless I student teach. Are there any alternative options for gaining a teaching license besides student teaching since I already will have my teaching degree?
A: No.
Student teaching is required in all states.
You are also incorrect about the "I'll have my teaching degree". the school will not exit you without your student teaching - that is a requirement for the degree.
Alternative options will not work for you unless you are willing to do two more years of classes. this time, they will be at night and on weekends. The programs that offer such are cohorts - interns - that are set up to do all three requirements:
1. classes - you did them in your program, the alternative interns will be completing these at night and on weekends - there are no programs that would allow you in and credit you for your work accomplished.
2. tests - I assume youve passed all your certification tests
3. student teaching - required for all teachers.- interns do this in their own classroom with a university mentor at the end of their second year of classes at night.
good luck - just geter done.
Q: Is Ashford University a good college to go to for a teaching degree?
I was just wondering if any one has attended or taken any online classes from Ashford University? Is it a good college to go to for a teaching degree? Also, does the State of Arkansas recognize them?
A: I currently go to Ashford University. I love the school and the schedule. The only thing that gets a little rough for me is that all courses are condensed into a 6 week period, so you are reading a whole book in half the time you would normally be able to. Some co ruses require 2 or 3 books. All States will recognize your degree from Ashford but the important question is the teacher requirements for your state. Some require only a BA to teach some require a Masters degree. The Teacher certification does not come from Ashfrod directly it is in conjunction with one of their partner schools Rio Salado College in Arizona which is also a good school.
Q: Im going to start a teaching degree at uni next year ?
I would like to know how hard is it going to be to get employment when i finish, i have heard that teaching jobs are vary few and fare between these days so im a bit worried to have a wasted degree when im finished. Is it a hard degree. Are there many new teachers in their 30's.
Im asking this question to people who live in Qld as that is where i live.
Im asking this question to people who live in Qld Australia as that is where i live.
A: It totally depends on where you live. Teaching employment in certain parts of Canada and the US are few and far between, but there are some places that are strapped for teachers. Most people who don't get hired right away are the ones who live in big city centers who can't relocate to some place far away or rural.
Google "teaching jobs" "your country"
and see if you can find a website with employment opportunities. There are tons out there, so I'd take a look at the specific employment situation in your area and whether relocation would be an option for you. On the other hand, if you are okay with being a substitute teacher for a few years, subs are needed almost everywhere anytime, but you do run the risk of being stuck on a sub list for years in some places.
Q: Is Penn State a good college to getting a teaching degree?
I'm looking for colleges, I'm a current HS Senior and looking at colleges....Penn State was up there on my list b/c I live in Pittsburgh and its relativly close by, but is it a credible college to get a teaching degree?
A: As state universities go, Penn State is a fantastic school. Any good school will have a very good teacher education program, and Penn State certainly does.
My professional advice? Wherever you go, double major. That way you will have a degree in a subject of specialization (history, chemistry, English, math, etc.) as well as a major in education. The major in education will put you on the path to teacher certification, and will include some student teaching before you graduate, which will help tremendously in getting a job later. The other major, in an academic subject of study, will impress future employers, and will allow you to bring real depth of knowledge (and contacts in academia) to your classrooms in your future career.
Honestly, though, the double major will only serve you well if you plan to teach above grade 4 or so. As I am sure you already know, there are not usually "subject teachers" in the lower grades.
Q: I have a teaching degree. How do I write a cover letter explaining I want a career change and sound convincing
My resume pertains to my teaching degree and experience in the classroom etc. How do I write a cover letter explaining I want a career change. I have my Master's in education, but places I apply to would take someone with a GED over me because I don't have the experience in their field. I need to make them understand that having furthered my education that I am capable of learning a new job and am fully trainable.
A: Wow, that's a big move. You have a Master's in education, that's great, but it can't exactly help if you did something like, say, construction. You have to be fully prepared for a lot of stress when switching jobs like that. Your letter shouln't suck up, but instead, you should subtly inform them that you feel like you have better oppurtunities and that it has nothing to do with the work environment or people. As for the people you want to employ you, don't just apply, ask for an interview.
Q: How can I get a teaching degree?
I have a bachelor in management, is there any way for me to use it order to get a teaching degree? What would be the best road to take? Can I trafser credit?
A: go to www.wgu.edu for a post-bacc degree (that will apply toward your masters in teaching if you decide to pursue that after you get your license) WGU is Western Governors Univ., accredited on-line university. That's where I got my degree & I'm licensed and teaching now!.
Check out the website & see what you think. Good luck!
Q: How can I convert my Business Bachelors into a teaching degree in pinellas county fl?
a retired teacher in fl told me that there was a way that I could do it...I want to switch careers and become a teacher...
where do I go ? What should I do ? I was told that there was a class I can take its only a few weeks and then I can convert my Business degree and start teaching ???
please help !!!
A: You might find a district, or better yet, a private school that will accept your degree to teach, but the Florida teacher certification will definitely need to be completed prior to being licensed to teach, certainly in the today world of NCLB.
Q: Should I go back to school to get a teaching degree even though I have a BA in Financial Economics?
Is it worth it for me to go back to school as an undergrad to get a teaching degree? I want to be a math teacher and now have a BA in economics.
A: I graduated with a BBA in Management. Afterwards, I joined an organization that places teachers in areas where other teachers do not want to teach. During those two years, I took certification classes and was able to earn my clear renewable license.
Check into the state in which you want to teach. Often times, the larger cities will have programs that allow "alternative" certification. This means that you are hired to teach and are given a nonrenewable five year teaching license.
Mind you, before they will hire you, you will need to pass the teaching tests for that particular state. Often times, the tests are not that difficult if you buy the study books. I passed both tests easily on my first try for the state of Georgia.
Once hired, the system should also have a partnership with various nearby colleges where you can certification classes to obtain your clear renewable teaching license.
It also depends on how many math courses you have taken on whether or not they will hire you for the math field. However, almost anyone with can get alternatively certified on the K-5 level. It is hard for middle and high school.
I hope this helps! Good luck!
