A: I agree with Decky, it would be better to study in a classroom environment. Although I recognize the practicality of doing an online degree especially if one has a career or a family. On the question of efficiency, there may be courses that one can take online without any loss of effectivity but there are those like Psychology which in my opinion requires hands on experience which online learning cannot possibly or effectively provide.

I am debating on getting my Masters degree online but am unsure if it is really possible. I have looked into this some with the University of Phoenix but just want some more information.

A: If you are wanting to use your psychology degree to do therapy I really believe that it is better to go to a school where there is face to face contact because a lot of what you learn is in the discussion, role plays and class exercises. Learning to do therapy is a lot more than learning facts from a book or series of readings. Teachers also model what it is to be a therapist. All of that is very important in developing a professional identity.

A: I don't know; I'm a psych professor and we tend to be very skeptical of online degrees. A lot of online programs don't give you real training or advising. I think it's a safer bet to get a traditional degree.

A: There are several universities in the US that have online programs. These are APA accredited schools: Fielding Graduate University Walden University This one is pending accreditation with the APA, but is regionally accredited: Capella University Depending on the rules in the U.A.E. in regards to practicing Clinical Psychology or Therapy, you'll have to check locally. In the United States it varies from state to state, but normally you need a Ph.D. or PsyD from an APA accredited school to get a state license to practice.

A: Ok, for nursing, I think you can only further your education. Example: You have a diploma and want a Bachelor's degree. You need to go to school for the diploma because of on site training but after you can obtain a Bachelor's degree at home no problem.( at least in Canada). For the psychology, you can do this at home no problem. From Bachelor's to Doctorate. You should look at Athabasca University in Alberta. It's the biggest distance university in Canada(maybe north america). Good luck.

I am considering going to school for my bachelor's degree to become a therapist. I should preface this by saying that I do not have a college degree but have attended other post-secondary schooling (1 psychology class, word processing certificate and massage therapy school). My question is, as a person who has never attended college, would it be more advantageous to be if I attended a brick and mortar school rather than took online courses for a psychology degree? I do realize that I would need to at least have a masters degree to do anything with a psychology degree. I also realize that there are certain classes that you could 'get away' with taking as online courses. Do you think online psych classes (at least beginning classes) are fine or do you think that would look bad to a potential employer or grad school? Does anyone have any advice? A: I don't know that it matters. However, most univ. will not take classes you have finished online..they are different accreditations. You also do not get aide for most online schools. The decision is yours but i would check and be sure your univ. will accept them

A: If anyone did, they are wasting time and money. The "University" of Phoenix is not an accredited school, it's a scam. Psychology is already one of the easiest degrees to get. Getting a psych degree online makes it utterly worthless.

A: There are several. The first thing you should look for are to make certain they are regionally accredited. If they are, they are reputable. As I said, there are several Nova Southeastern, Northcentral University, Liberty University, Union, Walden, Capella, etc. The next thing you should look for, if you want "more" reputable, is to see if they are CACREP certified (they accredit counseling programs). There is only one CACREP distance learning program that I know of...Capella University (Walden is working on it).
