Q: Labor and Delivery Online Nursing Degrees?
I would like to get into nursing- specifically labor and delivery. However, I don't know where to start. I'd like to try an accredited online school to start off with, but how do I know which ones are legit?
A: Make sure the program is accredited by the National League of Nursing....which requires a certain amount of hours of 'lab' and practicum. So if your lecture classes are online...OK....but how are they accounting for clinical experience? Not kosher.
Q: Is an online nursing degree looked at as a traditional degree?
I want to know if I take an online nursing degree , will employers look at it the same as a traditional degree (going to an actual school). Has anyone currently a nurse take online classes? Thanks to all!
A: No, that you would have to go to a regular school.
Those courses are fine if someone has been in that
field for a long time and needed refresher courses.
Q: Are online nursing degrees (LPN to RN) a scam?
I am currently an LPN working full time and am considering the online LPN to RN courses. I don't know anyone who has taken them to see if they are acceptable or if it's a huge scam.
A: I was looking to do that, and from what I researched, you need to have your Associates before you can get your BS, and I havent seen anything for an Associates online, but I could be making things up too. I know a lot of places dont allow to transition until after at least a year of experience in the field with your LPN, b/c you dont do clinicals(obviously online). But I dont think they're a scam. Are you unable to get to a place that offers an RN program? That would be your best bet IMHO. Good luck!
Q: What is the best online college to earn a degree in nursing from?
My wife is considering earning a nursing degree online. She has a bachelor's degree in Management already and she wants to get a nursing degree online. I really need some help
A: Nursing degrees can be earned online from quite a few accredited online colleges and universities. These include American Sentinel University, Benedictine University, Walden University, Stevens-Henager College, University of Phoenix, Chamberlain College of Nursing along with numerous other online institutions. You can find an entire list of these accredited and affordable online schools as well as their reviews at http://www.onlineedublog.com . All you need to do is go through the reviews and then decide with your wife as to where she wants to enroll :)
Good luck :)
Q: Do employers find online Bachelors in Nursing degrees creditable?
i have a bba that i got from a regular on-campus university, but i want to go into the healthcare field.
A: No. You cannot earn a bona fide BSN degree on line. It requires extensive clinical training and coursework.
Q: what are your thoughts on getting an online nursing degree? good idea or no?
clinicals are not online of course.
apparently there is some confusion.... i was wondering about getting an online nursing DEGREE. the clinical courses are still in a hospital. i was wondering if anyone had any experience doing this through university of phoenix or something of the sort.
A: Do you want to help online patients or real ones?
Q: are online nursing degrees valid, how does it work...?
A: To by knowledge the only nursing degrees available online are for masters and doctorate. Simply because you have to do rotations and they have no way of monitoring that. You will have to find your own placement for rotations and most hospitals, etc want you to be with a school that they are associated with (main univ.). If it's accredited by the Dept of Education it's able to be used anywhere. However, most R NOT...I tried to get a degree online..I only had 3 classes left when I found out that my degree I was getting could only be used in Ohio..nobody else took it. So, I wasted a lot of money and time. I would check the schools accreditation and actually ask someone if you can get a job with it. Ask your local hospitals --where they hire...if they would hire you with an online degree.
Q: I've heard on getting nursing degrees online, as long as you find a hospital to do clinicals in..does anyone
know anything about this? If so, what schools, and website!
A: Well, a lot of online programs are geared more towards those with their ADN (associate's degree in nursing)...at least at my university. They have an RN to BSN program that they offer that is strictly online for those who already are nurses, but want to obtain their Bachelor's degree. This is necessary to do if you want to go forth into an advanced nursing practice (such as a nurse practitioner) I'm sure there are many online universities you can choose from. May I offer a wonderful website that I stumbled upon only three months ago?? It's called allnurses.com and it is sort of a forum as well as a very informative website. Just type in their search engine "online nursing schools" and you will get many results there. Sorry I couldn't give you too much help!! Good luck...nursing school is super challenging but worth it.
Q: Can I get a nursing degree online? Can I get financial aid?
We are living overseas now and I really want to get my degree. Due to exchange rates, I can't afford to go to local colleges and I don't think their nursing degrees would be accepted in the states. Is it possible to get such a degree on line and how would I go about getting financial aid to help me with this? We can't afford it on our own. Thanks for your time!
You must think I am REALLY stupid! Of course, I will need to do clinicals. That is my question, I just assumed that this information was a given in this question. Any time you are doing a nursing degree, your clinicals are performed at a local hospital, etc. You may do some labs in school, but your real practice is by doing it. I don't see why you can't take the classes on line and still be able to do your clinicals at a local hospital monitered by the education system. Have any of you ever done online classes? There are great programs out there! So please if you know of such a program for nursing, please, politely give me your information instead of assuming that I'm an idiot. The more I do yahoo questions the more I see how rude and inconsiderate a lot of people are. Who's the ignorant one here? There are polite ways to word things. You don't just jump into nursing, either. I need to know what classes I can take now so that later, I can jump straight into the nursing.
A: check out http://go4onlinedegree.googlepages.com/
Hope it helps
Q: nursing degrees online?
From previous answers, I understand that you CAN get a LVN-RN degree online.. but my question simply:
Can you get a LVN degree online?
A: I believe you are talking about an LPN degree. There are some schools where you can do the class work on-line, but you will still be required to go to medical facilities to get experience in patient care.
You may be better in looking for a program that offers a combination of on-line/evening/weekend classes that gets you some exposure to skills labs where you are able to practice your basic skills on a mannequin prior to actually working on a patient.
Q: Have any of you earned your nursing degree online, and if so, from where?
I´m a 1996 graduate from Indiana University, and live in Germany, but have always been interested in earning a nursing degree.
A: In the US, it is very difficult, if not downright impossible, to earn your initial degree in nursing which makes you eligible for state licensure in an entirely online program. Most states require programs to have classroom time, and they definitely require a certain number of hours spent in clinicals.
Living in Germany, US programs that are offered online will be of little or no use to you.
Are you staying in Germany? Look into university programs offered there. And perhaps the German schools are structured differently. If you are planning on returning to the US at some point you should definitely ask how a German nursing education is applicable for transfer to the US.
If you are returning to the US sooner rather than later, look into programs here that are labeled as "accelerated BSN" programs, they are for people like you who hold a previous bachelor's degree in another field and want to earn your bachelor's in nursing. Usually there might be a few pre-reqs to take (which might be able to be done online) and then you take all the nursing courses required for the degree. It usually takes about 1.5-2 years to complete if you go full time.
Good luck.
Q: What do you think of Excelsior College's online nursing program?
I am thinking of attending the online program for my nursing degree.
There is a two year waiting list for schools in my area. I rather not wait to go to school
A: i know someone who is enrolled in it. they received their RN in like 6 months, and now has a great job. this type of program is far better than an on site campus just for the fact that if you have a life, or family it is flexible to your needs not just the needs of the school. plus they do have an excellent customer service system, they dont hassle you when you call, they make every attempt to solve your problem that you may be having and they are very informative. again if you have a life, or kids especially go for it. the only downfall is the price. but when you look at it you will pay about the same amount in the end.
just sign up for the online degree program, they have quite a few selections, the nursing field is defiantely one to get into. a lot of hospitals now a days give excellent sign on bonuses for RN's in my area, depending on the hospital, you can get anywhere from a 5,000-15,000 sign on bonus along with the fact that many hospitals also are very willing to pay up to 80% of tuition. the only downfall is online scholorships and grants are a bit harder to get. but very worth it.
Q: Help! Can anyone tell me of any community colleges that offer an online AAS Nursing degree program?
looking for an online community college that offers an AAS Nursing degree program that will allow me to stay home with my family and graduate as a nurse. I live in California so if there is anything here in this state that would be great but any info about this type of program I am looking is much appreciated.
A: I can't tell you a specific community college because I don't know where you live in CA. However, go to
www.collegeboard.com
and go to College Search. Then you can set preferences to search for state colleges with nursing programs.
Actually, here is a whole list that I found
http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/servlet/advsearchservlet?buttonPressed=viewResults&navigateTo=9&viewpage=1
Q: Just wondering if anyone has gone through an online nursing program? How does it compare to the class room?
I really want to get my nursing degree, but don't have the time right now to be in a time commitment in a traditional class-room setting. I'm hoping someone has had luck with an online program.
Thanks for the advice!! There is a university in my state that is going to put their RN online this fall, so I'll wait for that. It;s just 15 months or so, and I already have a medical background and have had a few of the necessary classes, so it won't be too bad. The worst part is reminding myself that I can do this and that I don't have all the symptoms of things I read about!!
A: I'm not to sure where you are from, but in Australia we have University based and correspondence or distance education which also involves blocks of prac. (In a hospital or health care facility). You will find it difficult unless you are going in as a mature age student, if you have some recent nursing, study experience and discipline.
I originally trained as an Enrolled Nurse (level before Registered Nurse) in a hospital setting and then some 9 yrs later went back to uni as a mature age student full time. I found it hard for the first 6 months getting back into study but I had a significant advantage with my nursing experiences. My concern with the "on line" or correspondence (horrorspondence) training is the lack of hands on experience it offers. I know some of the girls/guys I went to uni struggled to put into practice what they were learning out of a book. Remember you are dealing with people and often at the most vulnerable times in their lives so you really need to experience it one on one. I think on line would be even more difficult as you often do not have access to colleagues, friends and other sources to bounce ideas and thoughts off. In particular it is good to be around others that have nursing/medical experience so you can pick their brains, I was still working part time whilst at uni and found it extremely valuable.
You can be assured that the workload will be high. If your disciplined you could certainly pick off a few subjects until you can devote yourself more fully.
Hope this is of some help and good luck. It is a very rewarding career but also a lot of hard work, the learning and experience continue every day
Q: Are there any nursing schools entirely (except clinicals) online?
I am a busy mom, but I would love to finish up college. I am trying to do something in the medical field, preferably nursing. Does anyone know if I can get a nursing degree online? If not, does anyone have tips on what I should put on my nursing school application to have a better chance at getting in? Also, does anyone know of any good nursing schools in the Chicago land area?
I should have clarified that I am looking to be a RN. I would like a hospital certificate/diploma, my associates or bachelors. My ultimate goal is to become a nurse practitioner.
A: There are a few like excelsior but i would stay away from them. You need the one on one in class room time and hands on time in lab. Some states and hospitals will not recognize online degrees for first time RN's. This is a different story lets say if you already had a Rn and were going for a masters.
