Q: How do employers rate online graduate degrees?
I am looking at potential business schools to obtain my Masters in Management, or another related field. I was wondering where do employers rate online schools, such as the University of Phoenix, against other traditional business schools. Im guessing it's not in the top-tier with Harvard, North Western, Standford and such, but is University of Phoenix seen as a respectable school at all? Thanks.
A: Nothing against University of Phoenix, but why attend there when there are plenty of other options.
It is my opinion that the best MBA degree is obtained from going to a traditional university and sitting in class. However, that is not an option for all people. If the only way you can further your education is to attend online, you should investigate many schools and not just the ones that advertise.
I recommend that you try to attend a traditional state university that has an online MBA program. If at all possible, go to a program that has AACSB accreditation for their business school. AACSB accreditation is widely regarded as the best business school accreditation. While University of Phoenix is accredited, it does not have this accreditation. An additional benefit is a degree earned online at a traditional school will be no different than a degree earned on-campus.
Here are some good schools that have MBA programs online:

Good luck,
Q: is anybody familiar with universities in illinois which offer online Graduate degrees?
I am a resident of illinois who is looking to get my MBA degree. I would like to attend an university in illinois which offers online MBA programs. I knjow there are non-campus universities that offer these, but does anybody have any knowledge or experience with universities in illinois for an online mba? Thank you
A: The Illinois Virtual Campus (http://www.ivc.illinois.edu/ ) lists 297 online degrees including 71 master's available in Illinois. Among those; Argosy, Benedictine, and St. Francis offer an MBA and DePaul offers an MS in eCommerce.
U Illinois Online http://www.online.uillinois.edu/catalog/Programs.asp lists 82 programs but none are an MBA. There is an MPA, MPH, and MHA online (Public Administration, Public Health, and Health Administration) as well as oodles of education and computer masters and even master's in engineering.
Your state schools are offering a lot of health and computer related master's degrees online. That could be an employment shortage clue. Check out that list of degrees and certs - if I lived in your state I'd take advantage of one of those opportunities.
Q: What are some legit online graduate degrees accept people with 2.5 gpa?
i found argosy is legit not garbage like phoenix, capella.
my GPA is 2.7, im not ashamed of it
OOH NICE THANKS
wtf its not grad school
Yes UoPhoenix is garbage, not respected by employers, its waste of time and time.
many students have horror stories
A: rsu.edu
thats where i go, its a small state university thats way cheaper than those schools, it just switched from community college to university like 8 years ago so they take pretty much anyone with a heartbeat..you can get a bachelors online if you want..AND if you ever decide to go to a state university or whatever the credits will transfer..
check it out, the classes are small and the teachers will help you if you need it too..
Q: Are there any graduate online degrees in Spanish (or anything Spanish related)?
I have an undergraduate degree in Spanish and a K-12 teaching certificate. I need to go back and get at least 18 graduate hours to continue my certification - It would be great if I could continue my learning in the Spanish language (not teaching methods). The university in my area only offers graduate Spanish classes during the day (when I am work) - it would be great to find an accrediated school that will offer Spanish classes online.
sorry - accredited
A: you need to explore the on line educational site to gain knowledge about the graduate degrees i know one of the educational site which can help you to fined the on line collage for graduation which is http://www.sgpak.com
Q: Are online degrees just as accepted at graduate schools as are regular undergrad degrees?
I am curious as it pertains to graduate schools as well as employers. Do they view online degrees the same as a regular four year degree?
A: It depends on the school you attended. If it was not a reputable school then many grad schools - and most of the strong ones - will not accept that degree. Some (usually lower tier) will. Most won't. But if you did an online degree with a school that is highly reputable - which has a great rep for its brick and mortar campus - then yes, many grad schools will be okay with that. Some won't, but many will.
In addition, be aware of any accreditation requirements that schools in your field must have. Your undergrad school, at a minimum, should have been regionally accredited in order for it to be acceptable, but some fields also require that undergrad programs have had certain types of professional accreditation. For example, if you studied engineering with a school that was regionally accredited but did not have ABET accreditation for its engineering programs, you are sunk.
So, online degree from Carnegie Mellon? You're probably good. Online degree from U of Phoenix? Not so good.
Q: Is earning a graduate level degree online worth it?
Do you think that earning a masters degree online would be a smart thing to do? Are online graduate programs as good as other programs? How are the classes set up? Will employers and PhD programs view an online master's degree as equivilant to a degree earned in a traditional setting?
A: According to others posting here - it's not worth the effort. So, don't get an online master's from any of the following (who offer their master's degrees online) because these schools probably won't be acceptable to "employers" and your local state U. [sarcasm intended]
Oxford University (yes, THE Oxford offers an MSt online)
Harvard University (you can't do 100% online - but almost)
Stanford University
Johns Hopkins University
Duke University
Columbia University
Northwestern University
Georgetown University
University of Florida and Florida State University
According to ABCNews, 85% of all US institutions of higher learning are teaching online now, including a big chunk of the top-20.
I bet people who say online degrees are worthless are correct and a master's from one of these is worth much less than if you just went to East Podunk State University and got your master's in the classroom. I bet you'd learn a lot more at E. Podunk than you would at any of these too...
You don't provide enough information here really. Much depends on your field of study and exactly what schools you're talking about. If you're talking about this list above then I suspect they have incredible value and utility. If you're talking about UPhoenix or DeVry or Strayer then probably less utility.
If you're asking whether a master's from East Podunk State online is worth less than the same degree done in the classroom -- they're the same, nobody cares either way at that level.
Would you hire an applicant with a master's from Stanford (online) or from East Podunk State (classroom)? That's where the difference comes in - when comparing wine grapes to pie apples. When comparing apples and oranges, it just doesn't matter all that much.
Q: do colleges like UCLA or something equivalent offer graduate degrees online?
A: Colombia, NYU, John Hopkins, USC all offer graduate online courses.
Q: What is the best college to offer an online graduate degree for education?
Trying to find a decent school to do graduate work in education, preferably distance edu. I'm in Tx by the way, although I am considering out of state
A: there are numerous colleges which offer your desired program. for a whole list of accredited online colleges & universities offering this course simply visit: http://www.onlineedublog.com/
hope it helps :)
Q: I am looking for public, state university systems that have online graduate degree programs?
I am not picky about the state, but I am looking for a degree that is offered online (in its entirety). I have found a handful of schools, but am sure there are more out there. All I need is the name of the school, and I can take the research from there. Thanks.
A: No problem. Graduate programs - master's degrees, right? And state schools - no private colleges.
Here are some:
- Penn State U
- U Maryland
- UMass Amherst
- UMass Lowell
- UMass Dartmouth
- UMass Boston
- Ball State
- Iowa State U
- SUNY Buffalo
- SUNY Institute of Technology (Utica/Rome)
- U Illinois Urbana Champaign
I'm sure there are others as well, but this will get you started. In fact, the colleges in the middle and central western states have a long history of providing distance education to populations in the remote areas of their states. If you're interested in a particular school out there, it would be worth your time to go directly to their website and see what they offer.
Q: Can some one give me sites that offer online graduate, undergraduate, degree programs in archaeology?
Can some one give me sites that offer online graduate, undergraduate, degree programs in archaeology? Thank you.
A: Athabasca University has distance education programs in undergraduate Anthropology.
http://www.athabascau.ca/programs/
Q: What is the best school for an online graduate degree in history?
A: Prof Ranto can't separate "online graduate degree" from "online university". His own alma matter offers online graduate degrees and certificates and he seems to hold them in high esteem.
Academic MA's are not nearly as common online as are business and education.
Western New Mexico has an Interdisciplinary MA that can include history. http://www.wnmu.edu/VirtualCampus/InterdisciplinaryMasters.htm
American Military Univ. has history (several specialty areas) online. http://www.amu.edu
Prescott College has it but I don't believe that they are 100% online.
Austin Peay State U (Tennessee) has an MA in Military History online http://www.apsu.edu/cogs/mil_history.htm
U Oxford (the Oxford) has an undergrad advanced certificate in local history online http://advdiplocalhistory.conted.ox.ac.uk/ they also teach some history courses and archeology online.
Western Kentucky U has a fairly new MA in History online. http://www.wku.edu/online/historymaster.html
Fort Hayes State University offers their Master of Liberal Arts with a concentration in history online. http://www.fhsu.edu/mls/conc/history.shtml
There may be more - these are just those I'm aware of. If you're interested in expanding your search into Liberal Arts or Humanities, there are more than a few others worth considering.
Q: Does anyone have an opinion on what is the best place to get an online graduate degree from?
I've been looking at the psychology programs at ITP in CA, Naropa University in CO, and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, so far. Or, even in other fields like English, writing, spirituality, education, etc.
A: You will find many negative comments and criticisms of Capella University, a for-profit on-line school, on the Capella Facts web site - http://www.capellafacts.org/capella_university_reviews.html
Q: how can i submit an application for online graduate degree to Phoenix University ?
I am not a U.S. citizen, national or resident
A: I had the same problem too. Why not just write them snail mail instead?
Q: Has anyone completed a graduate degree online that was paid for by their company? ?
I have this opportunity coming up possibly and would like to know how it worked for you. Did you complete your online coursework on the job, or did you have to work and complete the courses on your own time?
A: I don't know anyone that has done an online course paid for by their company, but I do know people who have done graduate work paid for by their company and all of their school stuff was done in addition to their work (so night classes and homework on the weekend). It would be odd for your company to let you do your courses and work during work hours since they are already paying for your school. If you need some more info on online coursework, I'm putting a link below that has some tools that can help you stay organized during your schooling.
Q: Are Graduate degrees from U of Phoenix online reputable?
I'm considering starting work on a Master's of Healthcare Administration through the U of Phoenix Online program (work demands prohibit traditional classroom instruction) and am curious about whether potential employers would consider this a strong positive.
A: It's ok to slam on a college you don't like, but that doesn't really help with the issue at hand. There are better options than UoP, with a much better reputation, and at lower cost.
* Seton Hall

just a few to consider. Don't rule out the state university in your state - many do their programs online or a combination.
