Q: Can you take CPA with an online accounting degree?
I am graduating with a double degree in accounting and finance from Drake University which is well known. However, I don't have 30 accoutning hours but I plan on picking up an online masters degree through University of Phoenix Online for Accounting. Will I be able to take the GPA or do I have to go to another institution for additional accounting credits. Please help. Thank you!
A: Absolutely. As long at the credits are properly accredited, you are fine. Online is just a delivery method. Check with your state CPA society.
Q: Is an online accounting degree from a regionally accredited brick and mortar state christian coll. worth it?
Will I be able to find a job? It's regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). It's a Christian University, not that that matters to a future employer, but I wanted the Christian atmosphere, even if it's an online degree.
I already have an A.S. in Business Administration from a traditional university, but I wanted the accounting degree, and this was the best fit for me.
I'm worried based on the stuff that I've read that I'll have trouble finding a job after I graduate in a little over a year and a half. I really want to work in the accounting field.
This degree comes from a traditional brick and mortar school that also offers some online programs. It's also a not for profit, so it's not like some of the other ones... It's like going to Dukes online program, same thing. I just fear that I'll have trouble finding a job even with all I've mentioned.
Do you think my future in the accounting field looks hopeful
Thanks guys. It's a degree from a regionally accredited university. It's in accounting. It's from a real brick and mortar...We'll see what other people say. I already know the school I'm going to, so it's not a matter of choosing a school. It's a school in my state that just so happens to offer some online degrees as well as their traditional "on campus" degrees. NCA is the accreditor, so I'll just have to wait and see what happens. Thanks everyone so far.
A: My sister got her both her Accounting and Business degrees online and she immendiately was able to get a job working as a Professor at a University Teaching. I don't know exactly what you want to do with yoru degree, but as long as it is accredited then it shoudl eb no problem. Good luck with everything.
Q: Online Accounting degree from physical college?
I've looked over the questions relating to online accounting courses but most of them have to do with non-physical colleges. In the not too distant future I will have my B.A. from my local university, double-majoring in Philosophy and History. If I cannot raise the money for graduate school, I am considering an attempt at an Accounting degree. An actual university in my state is offering one with all courses performed online. My question:
Is a degree obtained online from an actual university worth as much to employers as one obtained from a classroom setting? And will my having an unrelated Bachelor's from a classroom setting make any difference?
Thanks very much for any reply.
A: I am a CPA. I do not think it will matter if you get an accounting degree from on-line or by physically going to the university. No employer is going to ask you if you went to Rutgers University or got you degree from Rutgers on-line. If you do pursue the accounting degree and since you are young I would suggest you try to take the CPA exam. www.nasba.org gives you information about what is needed in order to sit for the exam. The one thing I can guarantee you is that an accounting degree will always keep you employed because we are always in need.
Q: Finance or Accounting online degree- what is more useful?
I love to study:) I have a small business and $ 600k+ invested. I would like to get more involved with financial decisions and tax preperation. I will probably never work in a company as an accountant or adviser.
Which degree should I chose from Penn Foster or Ashworth- Finance or Accounting? What are the major differences? Or should I simply go for a cheaper bookeeping certificate? Just so confused.
Thanks for your help.
A: Finance is probably more useful for you.
Accounting tends to focus on how to classify information. Finance focuses on how to make inteligent decisions in allocating, borrowing, investing, and utilizing cash and other assets. As a decision maker in a business, finance will help you make better decisions. Of course there is usually a minimal amount of accounting study involved in a finance degree, and these fundamentals should prove somewhat helpful in discussing matters with your book keepers. I would also reccomend that you take a tax-accounting class, something very useful that is usually not taken by finance majors. As for a bookeeping certificate, I wouldn't waste your time.
Q: Anyone got their accounting degree online?
I have been taking courses online for my BSBA I am considering switching majors to accounting. Has anyone recieved ther accounting degree online? Was the material difficult to understand taking the courses this way? Where did you get your online degree from? Did you continue and get your Masters? was it online? MAc, MTax, or MBA? Did you get your CPA? Any other info or tips you would like to give would be great!
A: I'm doing my BSBA in accounting with Thomas Edison State College right now. It's not an easy option (which is what many people think an online degree is). The semesters are 12 weeks so you cannot afford to be behind. Ideally, you need to be able to devote at least a little time each day to study - cramming at weekends does not work, at least if you want a high enough GPA to be able to go to Grad School (which is the best way of getting the extra credits needed to become a CPA). Many of the homework exercises are designed to give you experience in the sort of questions (and the style) you will face in the CPA or CMA exams.
As to how difficult the material is, I find the accounting courses easier than anything else, but then I have been in the field for 20 years. If you can grasp the material in a brick-and-mortar school there is no reason why you cannot do so in an online setting.
When I'm done with my BSBA I plan to do a Masters in taxation. A work colleague was very impressed with Golden Gate University. They put you on academic probation if you get a C, so they make you work for your degree there too. They also have a dummy course you can take to see if online learning is for you.
Both schools are eleigible for federal financial aid.
Q: Will an employer hesitate to hire me as an accountant if I get my accounting degree online?
I have my associates in business from a community college (not online) but want to do my last 2 yrs for my bachelors online. Do employers in the business field see this as a weakness or strength?
A: Not really. In fact, many business professionals do their graduate studies online or through other "distance learning" methods. Just make sure that your online school is accredited by the REGIONAL, not national, accreditation organization. To find which regional organization may apply to your school, visit:
http://www.chea.org/Directories/regional.asp
Q: online accounting degree?
I am looking for a good online bachelors degree in accounting from a "real" college. Any suggestions?
I currently have an associates in business, so I'm looking for a good program to complete my bachelors and eventually work toward a cpa. I've done alot of research and found a few.
A: Many colleges and universities offer courses either online or by DVD/correspondence. Check with the schools you would like to attend and see what they offer.
Other than places like University of Phoenix and the other schools that charge an outrageous amount for tuition, it isn't so easy to earn your entire degree online, in ANYthing. The two state universities in my area offer maybe 12 hours out of the 30 hours required for an accounting degree. They offer a few of the lower level business courses, but almost none of the upper level courses. Sometimes they'll offer the first semester of a 2-semester sequence online, then only offer the second semester on campus.
Before you jump on the vocational/technical/community college bandwagon, have another look at your career goals. If you want to become a CPA, you have to have a bachelor's degree with 30 or more hours of accounting. If you already have a bachelor's in some other field, the 30 hours of accounting at a community college MIGHT satisfy your state's accountancy board so that you can eventually sit for the CPA exam. If you're going for your first-ever bachelor's degree, you'll usually find that only your first 2 accounting courses are considered equivalent to a course at a 4-year college. So if you get an associate degree in accounting and try to transfer to a 4-year school to finish a bachelor's, as much as 24 of your 30 hours of accounting will be thrown out and you'll have to retake the classes.
I've been looking for an online accounting degree for a long time, because I'm just not interested in fighting the parking hassles at the schools around here. Like I said, the state schools offer some of the classes but not everything. The online schools that do offer everything cost more than 4 times what my local universities charge. My employer doesn't pay any of it and right now, I can't afford to shell out $1500 for ONE class.
Q: What are some colleges (not online) that offer a master's degree in accounting?
Looking for an actual accredited college that would be recognized in the accounting field. Not wanting an online school with degree programs not worth the paper they're written on. (DeVry or Phoenix type places)
Also, any websites with degree requirement and tuition would be appreciated. Looking for anywhere in the United States.
A: You need to explore the on line educational site to gain knowledge about the online degrees i know one of the educational site which can help you to find the on line collage for online degrees which is http://www.sgpak.com
Q: Does anyone know the best local school for accounting near Longwood, FL or a great online degree in accounting
I am a recent graduate with a degree in social services. I am working in the accounting field, but would like to advance in this field and am looking to pursue either a degree from a good local school or a great online program...any advice? I appreciate any help from others that have pursued this route.
A: I don't know about schools in Longwood, but Florida Atlantic University has an AACSB accredited Master's of Accounting program. AACSB accreditation is the best accreditation possible for a business program. Also, for entrance into their Master's of Accounting program, an undergraduate degree in Business or Accounting is NOT required. The program is available online.

Good luck
Q: Are there any online public schools in Texas where I can get an associate or bachelors degree in accounting?
I am a Texas resident and want to find a an online accounting program where I can pay in-state tuition.
A: Texas was nice enough to put the lists of many of their online programs on one web page for us so they'd be easy to find.
http://www.telecampus.utsystem.edu/catalog/programs.aspx
Peterson's gives us a good list of accounting bachelor's online but none are in Texas.
http://www.petersons.com/distancelearning/code/nameresults.asp?sponsor=1&FromPage=DetailSearch
Remember though, many online programs don't charge out of state tuition. Georgia, for example, has an 'ERate' for tuition that allows out of state students to take online courses at the in-state rate.
Texas is also a member of the Southern Regional Education Board (Academic Common Market) which allows students to pay in-state at member colleges for many programs.

Q: My wife wants to get an accounting degree online. Is there a resource available which rates online schools?
A: There is no rating of totally online universities, because these institutions do not participate in any national ranking system. They are for-profit businesses, not like publicly or privately funded colleges and universities.
If she MUST take online courses, she should DEFINITELY take them under the auspices of a well-known and REGIONALLY (not nationally) accredited university. Many reputable state universities offer affordable online courses (and even degrees) these days. Please do research before you waste your family's money.
Here is a list of regional accreditation associations. If the program you are considering is not accredited by one of these bodies, she should look elsewhere.
Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
New England Association of Schools and Colleges
North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges
Western Association of Schools and Colleges
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
Q: Where to find accounting degree that I can complete online?
I live in Florida and have a job that switches from week to week. I make good money so I don't want to quit my job but I want to get a degree in accounting. Night classes aren't even an option because there are nights that I don't get off work until 9. So if anyone knows any accredited schools where I can get my degree through taking ONLY online classes I would love to hear about them.
A: Which degree? Associate? Bachelor? Master? I found several lists of accredited degree programs.
(The first is a single college, the other two links are lists.) http://www.linfield.edu/dce/degrees/online_accounting.php
http://www.elearners.com/online-degrees/accounting.htm
http://www.earnmydegree.com/online-education/business/accounting-finance.html
Or you can go through the results I obtained at my favorite search engine:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=online+accountant+accredited
Good luck, I've been considering this exact path myself, but not in accounting.
Q: Are there any STATE UNIVERSITIES in the U.S. offering accounting online degree?
Are there any STATE UNIVERSITIES in the U.S. offering accounting online degree for people living outside from the U.S. and Canada, and preparing their student to be eligible to take C.P.A. Exam in the U.S.?
A: Try University of Maryland University College.
Q: Does it make sense to get $40k in student loans to get a bachelor degree in finance/accounting online?
I want to get a BA in finance/accounting online, I was thinking to do it at the University of Columbia of Missouri online.
I am 30 years old and don't have any other debts.
A: If you can afford - I would - just make sure they are reputable......
Q: Are online accounting degrees really respected?
Are those online college couses truly respected. I just want to take enough accounting classes so that I can get into Grad school? If so what are some good ones? THANKS!!!!!!!!
I already have my degree in finance from a traditional univerisity.
A: There are tons of online MBA programs. I personally attended American Intercontinental Univ. and Capella University, and teach for the University of Phoenix. All three are accredited and solid programs. Online courses tend to vary in price, so we could say they are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive than a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies.
The key is to find a program that is fully accredited. Is it worth it? YES. My career has boomed since my MBA at nearly 5 years ago. I am nearly finished my PhD through distance education, and I am at the job that I want. I know I wouldn’t be here without the education. You need a school that is accredited and recognized by the Dept of Ed. I can give more info on that later.
The key is to make sure the college/university is accredited. I have three basic recommendations for everyone looking into online/distance education. They all have to do with exploring; after all, you have to defend your assets.
1. Make certain that you have triple checked their accreditation. First, they tell you what it is, then you go to that accrediting body’s website (not through the link provided by the school), and thirdly you would visit the department of education to see what they have to say. Do your diligent research into the institutions once you have narrowed down to a couple. You can look at the Better Business Bureau for more information on the college.
2. You must have extreme self motivation and be able to teach yourself per say. This means that you will not have someone telling you verbally, so it is up to you to get the information from the course room, text, and other resources. The best way to look at it is like a guided independent study course.
3. Review your goals, personal and professional. Make sure that the school that you are going to offers the programs that match your goals. Do not settle. There are many programs that are similar, but you have to make the ultimate decision. Do not let it be based on finances and length of program, but the fact that when you are finished or near finished you will be able to assume your proper place in the career field sought.
You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!
