Q: Does a University of Pheonix online bachelors degree really look good to employers?
I am currently taking classes at a community college in route to getting my Associate in Arts degree. I was going to transfer to a local University, but I have recently been thinking about maybe signing up for a Bachelors Program with University of Pheonix Online. I have a child and it would just be more convenient. Do employers look down on schools like these? I just want to cover my butt! Thanks!

A: I disagree that University of Phoenix is a diploma mill. One look at their tuition prices will indicate it is more expensive than most community colleges. many of my colleagues have taken classes through University of Phoenix and the organization offers both on-line and physical classes. http://www.phoenix.edu/campus_locations/campus_locations.aspx I would suggest you see if what they offer meets your educational, time, and monetary needs and make an informed decision from there.

Q: Has anyone got a bachelors degree online and than went on to a regular college for a masters?
Has anyone got a bachelors degree online and than went on to a regular college for a masters. If so where did you get your masters? When you transfer to a regular college do they look down on online degrees?

A: That depends where you got it. If you got it from Harvard no one will look down on you at all. Thanks Bill

Q: Whats your opinion on getting a bachelors degree online?
I am debating whether or not I am going to go with an online degree because I am thinking about moving and cant afford out of state fees for my bachelors. What are the pros and cons of online degrees?

A: Unfortunately, many employers view them as "toilet paper" or not worth the paper they are printed on. Sorry

Q: Can i go straight to an online bachelors degree or do i need my associates degree first?
i tried asking for a free info package at some online colleges for a bachelors degree and they told me i needed an associates first.

A: You can go straight to the online school. However there are certain times through out the year, that you have to fly to where the school is located to participate in certain classes, and test. Its not as simple as it all seems. I have looked in to it.

Q: anyone every really receive a bachelors degree or masters from a strictly online college?
i can see getting a associate degree online but a bachelors or masters seems a bit to unreal to me especially for the little money it costs if anyone has received their degree let me know and let me know where from.

A: I have taken (and taught) tons of classes and there are full online universities and regular 4-year universities that do offer this option for purposes of flexibility. This depends on the program you are applying to. PS: I'd be cautious of any program that tells you you can do a 4-year degree in less than two years.

Q: Can I get my bachelors degree online?
Can someoneone explain a little more about online school? If I were to get a bachelors degree online, is it honestly real? How much time would this take, meaning would it take less time then If I were to take classes at the college? How many years?

A: Yes -- you can get a real college degree on-line. Most on-line colleges are For Profit corporations that charge more than respected public universities. These schools have practically no standards -- so employers will not respect it. In my opinion, you would be better served to get a tattoo on your forehead that says "I have a bad education." It would have the same effect -- and be a lot cheaper. U of Phoenix recently paid a $9.8MM fine for sleazy recruiting practices. I've read that they are currently being investigated for padding their placement numbers. Companies like Intel have refused to pay for employees to take classes at U of P because they feel they lack rigor. If you want a good job -- go to a real university.

Q: Do medical schools accept online bachelors degree's during the admissions process? (having fulfilled the prerq
Do medical schools accept online bachelors degree's during the admissions process? (having fulfilled the prerq

A: If and only if: 1. your online degree is accredited 2. you did NOT do your lab courses online 3. took MCAT and did well. but even still, NO ONLINE SCHOOL ranks remotely close to the real universities that matriculate students into med school. I'm coming from UC Berkeley with a masters degree from USC, and i had a MCAT score of 32. You will be competing with the likes of me for admission. Admissions committees will be paying attention to where you came from. Unless you have a GREAT back story to tell (married, 6 kids, spouse in the military, constantly moving, worked as a medical tech for 30 years etc...), you will be fighting an uphill battle.

Q: Where is the best source online to get a bachelors degree??
I have an associate's degree in business administration and am looking for the best online source to compare bachelors degree programs online.

A: I am currently a junior at Upper Iowa University. I love it and highly recommended it to anyone! The courses are 8 week terms and you only need to take 2 courses per term to be considered full-time for financial aid etc. Check it out at www.uiu.edu

Q: what is the absolute quickest amount of time it takes to get an "online bachelors degree?"?
considering you take a reasonable amount of credits per semester. Furthermore, what is the best school to do this through thats not way too expensive? and can you get financial aid or scholarships with this? Thank for your help

A: A BA from a regionally accredited school (that is a key concept, as the regional accrediting agencies are the ones that accredit real colleges) is generally standardized at 120 semester hours, or the equivalent. There are many non-accredited schools, and many many of these are on line. So count on taking that many hours - or about 40 classes. On-line programs through regular colleges (state schools and community colleges) will cost the same as going to campus, and through for-profit colleges will cost a lot more. Financial aid and scholarships are typically available if you go to an accredited college. Education has become a regulated commodity - and there are no legal cheap and easy substitutes, no discount stores, and no sales. Sorry.

Q: Online bachelors degree with no curriculum based classes?
A close friend has just finished a four year degree fron an online university. He plans to be an elementary school teacher. His degree is actually in classroom management and while he took a lot of classes on managment, communication and even comparative religon, he has had absolutely nothing in psych, sociology, developmental psychology or not a hint of anything about developing and implementing curriculum, nor any class observation or student teaching. He is getting ready to start a Master's from the same online school and they say he can get all he needs for the actual teaching prep at that level. Does this sound odd?? All the ed programs I have been in or considered have you doing a lot of the basic core work in your first four, with your master's years being used to focus in on a specialty or get a better understanding of how to plan and implement, state testing and IEP implementation.

A: You do not say where you are from. I can only answer as to what happens in the US. Each state specifies what is needed from their credential candidates. I candidate must have a sponsor school. The schools must provide a program that fulfills state requirements. If he is attending an accredited school, and is recommended for his credential - there should be no problem. Often schools have different requirements and degree options. I do not know of any state that does not require a student teaching portion however. You do not state if he is a credential candidate - there is a big difference between the Ba and the credentialing work.

Q: about how long does it take to earn a Bachelors Degree online?
any info about online BA's would help.

A: Unfortunately there isn't a clean-cut answer to that question. The length of time it will take is determined by; college credits you may already have, major, and if you plan to attend full time vs. part time. Your best bet is to request information from the school of your choice. I recommend University of Phoenix (UOP). I had an Associates of Science degree when I enrolled at UOP (I attended regular classes & I took online courses) and I obtained my degree in 2 years. My fiancee is currently taking courses via their online program and he loves it. Sorry I wasn't able to give you an exact time, but I hope this information helps.

Q: Can I be accepted into a medical school with an online bachelors degree?

A: It depends on where you get your bachelor's degree and whether you can get sufficient lab sciences online. Anyone that answers with a categorical "no" is stuck in the 80's - almost everyone and his brother is teaching online these days. These include the likes of Harvard, UC-Berkeley, Cornell, Columbia, UCLA, Stanford, UMass, Duke, etc... I do indeed mean "almost every college in the US". It is 2008 and online classes is now normal. Medical school doesn't require a major in pre-med for acceptance. I've known music majors that have gotten in just fine. You will need the hard sciences and plenty of them though and they're difficult to do without access to an adequate lab. That will be your online obstacle. You could do a hybrid program though that combines online courses and classroom courses. As for the social consequence - most adults don't think the social skills learned in college are an advantage. Most adults consider that a serious disadvantage in life. The ability to only interact with age-group peers is not very useful in the "real world" nor is the ability to get fall-down drunk with a group of other underaged drinkers and pot-heads. If you want to show a good social development, pointing to undergrad life isn't the way. Community involvement and workplace experience is far more valuable than "the college social experience" in "the real world." What you're going to need in order to get into med school is a very high GPA (from the best school you can get into), all of the prerequisites plus a few upper levels, an incredible MCAT score, some killer references. If you can get your references from "real world" professionals instead of school teachers, that will help. Do not buy into the idea that local community college is better than _all_ online colleges. It's simply not true. See the list of top schools teaching online above - they all kick LocalCC to the curb even online. Also don't mistake online for easy. At a quality school, online is harder than classroom. That's why the drop-out and fail rates are so high.

Q: Does anyone know how I can apply for grants to get my bachelors degree online? Please help?
I am in the process of filling out the FAFSA online. How can I apply for grant money??? Please help

A: Talk with your school's financial aid office Check out Federal Student Aid Web Site or FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ I suggest you explore all federal funding and grant options at the Federal Student Aid website http://federalstudentaid.ed.gov/ You may also want to read the Handbook of the Pell Grant -- this is an 86 page document that contains everything about the grant http://ifap.ed.gov/sfahandbooks/attachments/0203Vo3MasterFile.pdf Or you can call the Federal Student Aid Information Center http://www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/gtepfpg.pdf at 1-800-433-3243 and ask them if there are any programs for women of your age Aside from FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and Pell Grant http://www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/index.html , you may want to explore private foundation grants Also check out Fastweb http://www.fastweb.com For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online http://gtionline.fdncenter.org . It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) and their opening blurb says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." You may be able to find grants from private foundations.

Q: Where can I find a college or university to get a Bachelors Degree online in early childhood education?

A: why would you want to?!?! lol. ....most (if not all) colleges/universities have online courses. I would do that instead. A degree from a college/university looks better than a..."phoenix online" degree (or whichever "school" you chose).

Q: Online bachelors degree?
The navy says i need a 4 year degree to become a naval officer. And a 4 year degree is a bachelors degree right? well if i take online courses that get me a bachelors degree in less than 4 years will i still qualify to become an officer? or is a 4 year degree literally 4 years of classes?

A: A four year degree is a bachelors degree, whether it takes you 2, 5, or 7 years to obtain people still refer to it as a "four-year" degree, because this is what in normally takes a full time student to complete.
