Q: Online Bachelor's degrees and then law school?
I am currently going to a community college, but am not sure about where to go for my bachelors. I am thinking of doing an online degree, however, I would like to go to law school when i'm done with the Bachelor's degree. Would me having a B.A/B.S from an online school hinder my chances of getting into law school? I'm not looking to get into Harvard or anything, just Rutgers in NJ. Thanks!

A: If you are interested in online courses, you need to go to an accredited university. There shouldn't be any reason for Rutgers to reject your online course work if it is done at a regular university or college. I know from experience because I am taking courses online in a bachelors/masters program at the University of North Texas and I have taken online courses at the local community college. Also, the belief that online degrees are for the lazy is actually a big misconception. Getting an online degree requires a lot of self-discipline, and in most cases is actually harder than a regular, on-campus degree. The workload is higher and often the content of most online courses is harder and more exhaustive. Here's another university to consider up near your neck of the woods: MIT offers a far more comprehensive selection of free online courses than other universities — nearly its entire undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Downloading materials takes minutes. A newsletter highlights new offerings, from Quantum Physics to American Women Authors. www.ocw.mit.edu

Q: Is there anyone out there trying to get a bachelor degree online?? Can you share your info with me? ?
Just looking to see how the online experience is going. I will be enrolling in about a week for online bachelor of arts in social science degree.

A: That is a very broad question, as there are various methods of online instruction. However, for the most part it involves the use of individual and group written assignments such as papers, discussions conducted in an online board. These methods are asynchronous, meaning you attend at various times that may be different from others. Other more advanced institutions are using webcasting, podcasting, PowerPoint voiced lectures, live chats, etc. Having been in this industry for over 5 years as an instructor and before as a student, I have seen this method of facilitation of course grow significantly through the years taking advantage of the newest technology in most cases. I have been involved with nearly 10 different institutions at different capacities as a consultant, course developer, and instructor. The principal advantage is flexibility, but such advantage requires personal discipline (the main disadvantage). If the course is done properly, the instructor is involved and available to you daily. This may not be at the same time you are, but the response to your questions should come within 24 hours. Online courses tend to vary in price, so we could say they are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive that a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies. Suggestions for selecting online schools The key is to make sure the college/university is accredited. I have three basic recommendations for everyone looking into online/distance education. They all have to do with exploring; after all, you have to defend your assets. 1. Make certain that you have triple checked their accreditation. First, they tell you what it is, then you go to that accrediting body’s website (not through the link provided by the school), and thirdly you would visit the department of education to see what they have to say. Do your diligent research into the institutions once you have narrowed down to a couple. You can look at the Better Business Bureau for more information on the college. 2. You must have extreme self motivation and be able to teach yourself per say. This means that you will not have someone telling you verbally, so it is up to you to get the information from the course room, text, and other resources. The best way to look at it is like a guided independent study course. 3. Review your goals, personal and professional. Make sure that the school that you are going to offers the programs that match your goals. Do not settle. There are many programs that are similar, but you have to make the ultimate decision. Do not let it be based on finances and length of program, but the fact that when you are finished or near finished you will be able to assume your proper place in the career field sought. You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

Q: Can anyone tell me of any non, for-profit universities that offer online bachelor's degrees? ?
I'm looking to obtain a second bachelor's degree in Political Science online.

A: The Big Three plus Athabasca Excelsior College http://www.excelsior.edu Thomas Edison State College http://www.tesc.edu Charter Oak State College http://www.cosc.edu Athabasca University http://www.athabascau.ca/ These will offer the highest possible level of transfer credit on your first degree. Almost every college will require 30 new hours for a second bachelor's degree. Also look at: American Military University Ellis College - NYIT SUNY - Empire State Upper Iowa U Central Michigan U Austin Peay State U Eastern Oregon NC State St Mary of the Woods Also consider whether you really want a BA/BS in Poli Sci or if a master's such as public administration (MPA) or Peace and Conflict Studies would serve you better. U Oxford does their MSt in International Human Rights Law online. http://humanrightslaw.conted.ox.ac.uk/MStIHRL/ Many master's programs in this area don't require a specific undergraduate degree. Since a master's is about 30 hours and most second bachelor's will require about 30 hours, you might want to consider that option.

Q: Can anyone suggest me colleges that provides online bachelor degree on experience basis?
Dear fellow. I belongs to India. I have seen on websites....some colleges are coming out with Online Graduate degree offerings on experience basis. They charge approx. $500 for the same degree. It is said that this is legal and approved worldwide. Could you please suggest what should I do if I have to avail such degree?

A: Degrees like this are not approved worldwide, and may not even be legal in certain regions/countries. For example, here in NJ, if you were to put such a degree on your resume, you could be prosecuted. So be very careful. I'd rather you avoid such degrees entirely, and go with a genuine master's degree given by a reputable university.

I am 26 years old and I only have my GED. I am interested in obtaining a bachelor degree in liberal arts. Is it possible to do this completely online? Can someone please provide me with some information?? How do I get started?

A: You can get a degree anywhere with a GED. A friend of mine recently graduated from Columbia and only had a GED to get in.

Q: Are online Bachelors degrees worth the same as a traditional bachelors?
Online Degree

A: Online degrees are becoming more popular as the workforce is getting older and need to work while they finish or start their coursework. Major Universities like OU and OSU are offering online degree programs to accomadate these people and employers actually admire people who have the work ethic to go to college AND work. Other accredited online universities are becoming much more accepted and a lot of business are encouraging their employees with incentives to enroll.

Q: If I was to get an online Bachelor's Degree, Do you know if employers know if you got a online degree?
Or traditional one?

A: Depends. Some universities are JUST online universities. If you get a degree from Western Governor's University, for example, everyone will know you got an online degree. Meanwhile, some universities do not offer online degrees, and your employers would know that, too. There are a few, however, that have both. In that case, you just get a degree from the university. There is nothing on the piece of paper that says it was online, so no one would know the difference. You'll need to talk to the specific university you have in mind to find out what their situation is. Good luck!

Q: Does anyone have recommendations for good online bachelor degree programs that are inexpensive?
I’m looking for a program that isn’t going to be SO expensive. I can afford about $3000 dollars a year. I would pay out of pocket as I am currently already paying for student loans and don’t want to go that route again. Any information anyone has would be very helpful!

A: If a Canadian university would work for you, Athabasca University in Alberta is well recognized and specializes in distance and on line education programs. Here is their website. Good luck with it.

Q: Are there any Parapsychology Bachelor Degree programs offered online?
I am interested in perusing another Bachelors degree in Parapsychology. I want to obtain the Bachelors online and finish up for a doctorate with it on campus after. Does anyone know of an online school offering a Bachelors program in Parapsychology...? A link would be great too!

A: Not from any accredited colleges or universities. Franklin Pierce University (fully accredited) offers a minor in parapsychology with a major in psychology at the Bachelors level. Doctorates in parapsychology are not offered (from accredited universities) in the U.S. except possibly by special arrangement with schools like University of California, Berkley that are know for designing and awarding unusual degrees (one in magic). Also, most people working in parapsychology do not have degrees in parapsychology. They usually hold doctorates in a conventional science (physics, medicine, psychology, anthropology, engineering, etc.). They usually do their dissertation on a parapsychology subject. Please contact me if you want more information. Psi

Q: What do you think about online bachelor/masters degrees online from:Phoenix University,Devry,AIU,CAPELLA?
are they legitamate?

A: I think it isn't going to help you get a job. Most employers will not take an online degree seriously. Are you aware that the University of Phoenix is a For Profit company (unlike the vast majority of universities)? Are you awayre that they accept almost anyone who applies? Are you aware that they just paid a $9.8MM fine for shady employment practices? Are you aware that they are currently under investigation for psdding their placement numbers? Go to a real school. Get a real education.

Q: What's the difference between a college bachelor degree and an online Bachelor degree?

A: well let's face it a college bachelor degree is higher compared to online degree... not that i have anything against online courses but i mean, common getting your degree online!!! i just believe that some things are still done best the real way, like attending a real school perhaps... education is not limited staring in front of a box, a keyboard and a mouse... hope this helps good day! :)

Q: Looking for an online Bachelor's degree in Web Design and Multi Media that is affordable.?
I have checked out The Art Institute's online program. $82,500. That is outragious. Also checked out Westwood College and AIU. Prices are not as bad but I am not sure if they are considered credible. Has anyone graduated from an online college with a Bachelor's degree and now working? Even if you are not working I would like to hear how your experience was. Thanks!

A: Oh, goodness, such a difficult question. The reality is that there aren't that many reputable online options in these fields. In reality, so long as your school meets my first two requirements, you'll be hired mainly based on the quality of your portfolio. So based on all that, I can only recommend two online programs in your field: - Savannah College of Art and Design (my preference, as is more reputable than...) - Academy of Art University (which is a solid program, but SCAD has an edge over them in reputation) Neither are exactly cheap. But they are far more worth their expense than the other schools you mentioned. And SCAD really is quite good. To save money, can you study this at a local university instead? If you can do this via your local community college or state college, you'll save money, and those are reputable options. While you're studying via distance, try to get yourself some real-world work in the field, which you can use on your resume and in your portfolio. Of course, as a distance student, you won't be able to do an actual internship, and perhaps you're working, so that may not be possible. But you could, say, volunteer to manage the website for your local figure skating club, or design a website for a local charity, or the local Cub Scout Pack, or something local, and of limited duration, but real-world. It'd be as if you're creating your own internship, but having this sort of experience on your resume will really help you get an actual job in the field when you graduate.

Q: Where can I get a free online bachelor degree in graphic media design?
i need totaly free course

A: In your dreams... You can't get something for nothing. If someone offers a Bachelor's Degree for free, they are scamming you. If you list a fake degree on your resume, you can be fired or even prosicuted. It isn't worth it. Apply for financial aid and do it the right way. Fill out a FAFSA form and see what kinds of grants or low interest loans you might be qualified for. Grants don't have to be paid back. Low interest student loans don't have to be paid back until you graduate.
