Q: nursing degree?
If you go to school to get a nursing degree do you have to work on dead bodies?

A: If you work in a hospital you will! It is not always a common occurrence, but it does happen. The real question is will you be able to handle the sight of blood, feces, open sores??? As a nurse these were harder for me to get used to than the thought of taking care of someone who was deceased.

Q: Getting a nursing degree in the state I live then moving out of state for a job. How does this work?
I am from Florida and want to get a nursing degree in Florida. Then I want to get a job in Colorado. Must I retake the medical exame in Colorado even though I will have passed the exam in Florida. I am thinking baesd on remembering being told this. Thats The nursing exam differs from state to state or the rukes in the medical field are different in other other stats. Some states may have the same rules. If anyone can help me out I would appriciate this. Someone who has done what I am trying to do would be best to answer my questions if possible.

A: You didn't mention whether you were taking the LPN or RN course work. Colorado has a different application for each. Once you pass the state nursing board and get licensed in FL, you can be endorsed as an RN to practice in Colorado by filling out an application, and paying the fee. Most states honor nursing boards in other states with reciprocity (thanks to the nursing shortage.) Links for more information on Colorado Nursing Board. Good luck.

Q: What can you do after getting a pre nursing degree at a community college?
How does it all work? I am confused about the types of nurses and the degree and pay that goes with them. I am currently taking classes for a pre nursing degree and I plan on transferring to a university. What kind of job can I get with a pre nursing degree?

A: A prenursing degree allows for you to earn the required course work before entering a BSN program at a university. Most jobs health-care related will require you to get some sort of certification, at best you could test to become a CNA. Some doctor's office's might hire you as receptionist but they usually prefer Medical Assistants. If you looking to have a job while going to nursing school, I suggest you get certified as CNA, not only will you earn money but you will learn about nursing especially if you work at a hospital and some of that experience will become invaluable during your education.

Q: can i take a bachelors degree in nursing as a major for veterinary medicine?
I am planning to take a four year nursing degree as a major before I continue it to veterinary medicine. I am taking nursing as a fall-back in case I never make it to veterinary school that's why I chose to take it as my bachelors. Is it possible and/or acceptable??? Please Help!

A: You might have trouble meeting the pre-requisites with a nursing major. You would end up taking longer to meet the pre-requisites. I would look at the courses you'll need for your nursing degree and compare them with the courses required for the vet school you're wanting to attend. If there isn't a lot of overlap, you might want to choose something different. It's my understanding that once accepted to the nursing program, there's not a lot of flexiblity in your course choices, but I might be wrong.

Q: What job requires a Nursing degree and a Information Technology degree?
About a year ago I read on Yahoo that there is job in the medical field that requires you to have a degree in Nursing and a degree in Information Technology. I believe the job entailed moving paper medical documents to computers, but it was not medical billing and coding. Does anyone know what the job title is and where i can find more information about it?

A: You need a nursing degree to get your RN to be a nurse.

Q: What is the difference between B.A In Nursing and Associate degree in Nursing?
I have a Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering already but I want to study Nursing. I got my Engineering degree in the Philippines and now I am planning to pursue Nursing degree here in South Carolina. I want to know what degree should I start to go for RN? I am planning also on taking up Master as a GNP - Gerontological Nurse Practitioner. Please help!

A: $1.00 per hour in pay. Nurse practitioners, of course, make much more pay. Investigate the Public Health Service's FNP paid degree programs.

Q: Can I get bachelors degree nursing, and obtain physical therapy license at the same time with same courses?
I want a bachelor nursing degree but I also would like to obtain a physical therapy license too. So I wonder can I use those same courses for credit. Could it be possible to get them both at the time or the physical therapy first then continue with my degree?Any advice is appreciated thanks.

A: No, the course work is entirely different. You can certainly obtain your BS in nursing, but you must go back to finish the prerequisite courses for applying to the graduate level PT program. Then, there would be an additional 3 years in the PT program. I imagine to do both would take about 8 years.

I am african but on scholarship studying nursing in Japan.Do you think I can find a nursing job with my degree from Japan in the US.Also can you suggest any states for a person like me?Your help will be very much appreciated.

A: There is a nursing shortage world wide. That includes the United States. There are international nursing agencies out there that will help you with the transition and licensing. If you like it warm and humid look at Georgia, South Carolina or Mississippi. If you like it hot and dry try Arizona, New Mexico or Navada. If you like the Ocean California, Hawaii or Florida. If you like snow and city life try Pennsylvania, New York, Conneticuit is for you If you like mountains try Colorado for rocky mountains or Tennesee or Kentucky for Green forest covered mountains. If you like wide open spaces and a sky that goes on forever try Montana, Kansas or Illinois. If you like snow covered peaks, glaciers and watching whales there is Alaska. There is such variety here you can really find anything that suits you. Once you are here you can travel to any of these places to visit as you wish.

Q: What other health care jobs or programs can i get into with a nursing degree?
Just looking for a list of programs or jobs in healthcare that require a MS or PHD, that are a little more gratifying then nursing, but that i can still use my nursing degree towards? Perhaps someone knows a good site to look up a bunch of health care jobs and programs? Thanks!

A: Amazing. Nursing is like the best profession out there. There are so many sub-specialties in all professional areas. There are about 100 different nursing specialties. See below for the list. I know that doesn't completely answer you question, but the list can give you some ideas. Research, for instance, or Business Administration, There the CSI angle, but the TV show seems to make it more glamorous than it probably really is. Then there are legal nurse consultants. You can find a list of the highest paying nursing specialties here on the right hand column: http://www.jobs-in-registered-nursing.com/nursing-specialities/index.php Another approach is to see what all the nursing schools offer. You can find a list of all nursing schools here: http://www.my-nursing-career.com/nursing-degrees/index.html. Since you already have your degree, the online option is a good one. Q: what schools are good to attend for a 2 year nursing degree?
Thanks a lot for answering my questions. I live in Philadelphia and would like to attend a nursing school where are some good schools to attend for a 2 year program or to get a certifed nursing degree.

A: The community colleges in PA will offer nursing degrees: both associates and CNA. Those programs are your least expensive options, and highly reputable. You can also go to a private nursing school, if you'd like. Those are also reputable, but far more expensive than your community colleges.

Q: What is it like being a nurse and what can I do with a nursing degree?
What is it like? Daily life? Where can I work? My employers, what will they be like? Do you have to wear scrubs? Could I open, say, a wellness clinic or something with a nursing degree? What are all the options? Thanks!

A: Im a 3rd year student nurse, the journey has been a bit of a slogg but you will meet some amazing people and witness things that most people will never see. I think its a privilege being a nurse, what other careers allow u to wash people naked, hear and listen to their fears & help them when they are so vulnerable. I got onto the degree programme by doing a BTEC National diploma in care, which you can do at your local college, it is also usefull to get a job as a nursing assistant, this will give you a taster of what nursing is like before you start, u will also learn skills such as blood pressure monitoring and bedbathing etc which is really useful ! The degree programme is 3 years long and consists of 6 placements, varying from medical/surgical to community and critical care (my fave). You will be assigned a mentor on each placement to help you achieve your goals set out by the university. If you decide to do a diploma in nursing you are eligible to recieve an nhs bursary, degree students have a means tested bursary other costs are then supposed to be covered by your local authority, so if you decide to do the degree u need to apply for a student loan. Ive had many ups and downs studying, some mentors are helpful and some are just damm rude but ignore these people... ! If you do choose to study nursing GOODLUCK !! P.s U also need a bit of a sense of humor, it helps when u've just realised a patient has peed on your foot, yep things like that happen :) xx

Q: What do I need to do to obtain a nursing degree?
I have a Bachelors in Sociology and would like to get a nursing degree. Do you know how many years of study this would take?

A: With a bachelors already you can do an accelerated program if available in you area, or contact a nursing school & speak to someone who can evaluate your current degree to the BSRN; or if not, do a 2 year RN at a community college to start. You will still need to do any pre-reqs that you do not have or are out of date.

Q: Are there jobs in nursing homes that do not require a nursing degree?
I'm looking for a career change. I would love to perhaps work in a nursing home but I have no degree in nursing. Are there certificates I could pursue? What does it take to become a nurse'a aide?

A: Definitely! In fact I'm guessing that most of the staff in nursing homes consists of nurse aides. I am one myself but I work in assisted living. To work in a nursing home (also called skilled care) you have to be a Certified Nursing Assistant. Do some research and find out where in your area there are classes available for this. After completing class work, you will probably have a "practical" experience which means clincial training in a nursing facility. After doing this, you take a state test to becoming certified. Good luck!

Q: Would a nursing degree get you a job in Australia?
Would a new graduate, who has had no experience with a Nursing degree stand much change of getting a job in Australia, if not, how many years experience would be requiered to stand a decent chance? Also, for the sake of political correctness, would a male nurse be more likely to land a job? Thanks I'm British and it's a fully accredited degree from a British university.

A: Yes it would; if you qualify by meeting Australia's Immigration tests. You may need the 2 yrs experience first, but on saying that they are fast tracking working visas for the very skilled shortages. If you are in Britain, why not to to the EXPO about how to live and work in Australia. (There is one in October, and are usually held twice a year) Immigration are there to help with forms and questions and job offers do get made there. See http://www.expo-australia.com - and "Australia Needs Skills Recruitment Expos' - http://www.immi.gov.au/skillexpos/index.htm Good Luck
