Q: How do employers view applicants with masters degrees from online programs as compared to a real university?
A: If the degree comes from a school carrying a legitimate accreditation, it is generally not an issue. The masters degree is an entry ticket to certain types of jobs, but the attributes and qualities that you bring to the table as a candidate will really make the difference as to whether you are the person for the job. However, don't be surprised if you are asked why you selected to go the online route and what was the advantage in doing so.
Q: I want to teach History in a Community College, can I get a legitimate masters degree online?
I am almost finished with my Bachelors degree in History. I would like to continue on and get my masters in History. I am interested in American Public University's (APU) History program. But can I get a legitimate masters degree from a fully online institution, that when Im finished I would be able to get a job teaching at a community college? APU is fully accredited but Im leary because the only information about them I can find is on their website. It seems like nobody has heard of them. Any help would be appreciated!
A: You should go to Walden University. It is fantastic check it out

Q: I would like to earn my masters degree online, can anyone help me out?
I have contacted university of phoenix and they told me that it cost USD612 per ONE credit and i would have to pay usd 95 per course for online library / class.
I currently work in Qatar, and we do not have HRM masters, so that's why im thinking of online courses.
Can anyone help me out? Should i continue with this univeristy? is it good?
A: Take a look at this one - cheaper than UoPhoenix and has a better reputation.
Webster University, St. Louis Mo http://admissions.webster.edu/admissions/graduate/masters/hrmg.asp
Webster isn't the least expensive but the online programs are very well developed and supported.
Q: Online Masters Degrees or Teaching Credentials?
Do you know of any online universities that offer a Masters Degree in Special Education or Early Childhood Education with or without teaching credentials? I realize the student teaching component would have to be completed in a classroom. I received all 4 of my previous degrees on campus. I am still deciding if I want or need to pursue a credential at this time. I am looking for my next endeavor to be online due to my disability. It meets my needs better. I have websites for University of Phoenix, National University, Mount St. Mary's and Grand Canyon University. It is hard to find course and program descriptions. I would like specific answers from knowlege or experience. Thanks!
A: The schools you mentioned are all the online schools, which you should look into yet you need to see if they are accredited, and see the success rate of the student who actually got a job from them. My cousins school districts wont hire anyone with an online credential because it is looked at as paying for your degree.
Q: Financial aid for Masters degrees through on line college/university?
Where is the best place to get financial aid for a Masters degree online? I have not used any Strafford loans at all.
I have excellent credit and I don't want to have to re-pay my loan until I have completed my program.
Any personal reccomendtaions you have would be great!
Thank you :)
I'm a non traditional student, old, married, so no parent co-sign loans please.
A: Take out federal Stafford loans first before you commit to taking out private loans. Stafford lending at the grad level is $8500 Subsidized Stafford, and $12,000 Unsubsidized Stafford per year.
After that consider taking out the Graduate Plus loan. Unlike the undergrad product for parents, the Grad Plus allows the grad student to apply and receive the loan instead of their parents. It is a fixed interest rate (8.5%) loan through the govt that carries all the same benefits of the Stafford loans.
These are your best options at the grad level.
Q: are online schools for Masters degrees convenient and respected or is there a negative connotation to them?
I am soon to be completing a Bachelors in sociology from a California University. I am going to be getting my Masters in Science for counseling, but since i was 18, i have been working and going to school at the same time. Once i get my bachelors, i plan to move to a higher paying job, which will require more responsibility and time, which i see as a problem because it is exhausting to juggle both. I just want to know what educated people think of online degrees, i think they are all the same, but perhaps people involved in interviews and hiring could tell me if there is a real taboo on those as opposed to actually attending a university. thank you!
A: If it's a professional MBA program through a real school (for example, I think NYU does one), then it should be ok. If it's something like University of Phoenix, that's not going to work.
Q: anyone know of a reputable university for an online masters degree program?
i am interested in getting a masters of taxation degree. i would like to get this online though. does anyone know which online schools/universities are good. i know there are many out there but it's hard to choose which university to select. any thoughts would be much appreciated. thanks.
A: Athabasca University - as far as I know it is the biggest online degree/post grad uni in canada - Guelph, Waterloo have online masters programs as well...all very reputable.

Q: Do online masters degrees really count?
A: No. Never to the extent of a Master's degree from a "brick and mortar" institution.
Even accredited online degrees are worthless in the larger context of academia, because legitimate Master's degrees in the arts and sciences require close mentoring and guided research within the context of an active intellectual community. Online programs can only provide reading lists, examinations, and discussion groups, and are only able to focus on content or data.
A real Master's degree from a "brick and mortar" institution is not merely about reading, taking tests, and discussing the reading with others. A real Master's degree focuses on theory and methodology. It requires a setting in which a student can take the first steps toward a certain level of competency in a subject area, guided by professors with expertise in that area, and engaged by peers with ongoing similar methodological and theoretical investigations.
Q: I am looking to obtain a masters degree online any advice?
I mean as far as is it legit? Respectable?
A: If you choose to do the online degree--your best bet is to find an actual university offering an online degree. I'm going to start working on an MBA online next year, but on the diploma, it doesn't distinguish it being an online degree. It's the same degree as if I had been in the actual classroom. That's what you want if you want to ensure your degree will be seen as "legit" and respectable. There are some out there--you just have to look. Since you didn't post what field, I really can't suggest specifics. I'd stay away from U of Phoenix if you can help it...you are better off spending more time/money and getting a degree from a school in physical existence. You are reallllllly taking your chances if you pursue a degree from U of Phoenix. I know plenty of people who have had employers disregard online degrees from UOP and similar online "universities." By the way, if you can complete a 4 year degree in, say, 14 months online, there is something wrong with that--and THAT'S when you run into problems with the degree being legit and respectable. But there is a compromise--you can find respectable schools offering online programs. Boston University offers a few I think, as well as some other schools along the East coast.
But like I said, the program I am pursuing is legit and is the typical 2 years you should spend on an MBA. You really can't cut corners on time when it comes to getting a degree. As far as employers/grad schools are concerned, time investment is half the battle in higher education. Be wary of any online program that offers you short cuts like that. Good luck!
Q: Do you think if I were to get my Masters in Education online it would be accredited??
I have my degree in Communications from EIU, and was thinking about going into education and getting my masters. What do you think of online degrees/masters?
A: As long as it's on the Higher Learning Commission website and is REGIONALLY accredited and accepted by your state, you should have no problem.
