Q: What USA Fashion Schools offer one year Masters degree program to students without a background in Fashion?
I have no Fashion background, I have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, No portfolio, just packed with the passion for fashion. I am looking for a Fashion School in USA that admits people like me for a one year Masters program. I am based in Nigeria

A: Are you talking about fashion design, or fashion management/merchandising? I'll assume design. Will you go back to Nigeria to work afterwards? That makes a difference, because in general, if you want a job in fashion design in the UK, US or Canada, you need to go to a top fashion school, and you won't be able to get into those master's programs without a portfolio, and a strong one. But if you're going back to Nigeria, I'd imagine that you could go to a less elite program and still do quite well, so long as you come out with a strong portfolio. In which case, there is one reputable program in the US that you should strongly consider - the Academy of Art University, in California. I believe they still admit without needing a portfolio, although you may be required to take some intro classes at their school before you can jump into the full master's program. Thus it may take longer than a year. If Nigeria is like the US, though, employers will be loathe to hire someone who has a masters degree in the field, but no actual work experience in it. I wonder if you'd be willing to consider getting an associates in fashion design, but from one of the best schools in the world? That'd be at the Fashion Institute of Technology, in NY. It's one of the few design programs where, even out of the associates level, students can do quite well. After this, you could work in the industry for a while and then, if you chose to, go on for a masters.

Q: What is a good masters degree program for me and my major?
I am an Adolescent American Sign Language/ Special Education major. In other words, when I graduate I can become an American Sign Language teacher, like teaching American Sign Language as a foreign language in a high school.

A: Well, not business. You'll end up as a manager at Walgreens. No good. Why not get it in Education? That way you'll have several opportunities to teach, supervise, etc. in the educational system. Best of luck.

Q: I need to know the best masters degree program I need to take?
I am in the army and will be for the next 4 years. when I get out I want to be able to become a high school teacher so I can become a football coach. I have an associates in applied science in telecommunications and a BS in information technology. I want to teach a 9th or 10th grade algebra class or a computer course. does anyone have any good ideas or guidance? I dont have a lot of time, so I will most likely have to go to the university of phoenix. which is where i got my BSIT. When I get out i will probably end up moving back to oklahoma city or one of the suburbs there. I have looked through the courses that UOP offer and I am not sure which course to take. my options at UOP are MA education curriculum and instruction computer specialization, curriculum and instruction, secondary teacher education and administration and supervision. what do you think?

A: With your BS in information technology, you could possibly get an alternative certification, but that would depend on which state you land in. You can also go for a masters in math. Because of the No Child Left Behind law, you must be 'highly qualified' to teach the subject, so at this point you would not qualify to be a math teacher. However, math and science teachers are in high demand. There are other on-line schools besides Phoenix. Nova Southeastern and Walden are two, though I'm not sure if they offer a Masters in math. Both have websites where you can check their offerings. If you want to be a coach, perhaps you can get a second bachelors in education with a physical education focus. That would put you in good stead for a coaching position. Again, it will take some homework on your part to find a school with that program. Or a second bachelors in education with a focus on math would be an alternative. Masters degrees aren't as varied as the Bachelors programs as they have very specific foci. I know several teachers with multiple Bachelors degrees, so it isn't as odd as it sounds. Do you think you will settle down and teach in Oklahoma? If so, check out the Oklahoma Department of Education on line for their requirements. Good Luck! Hope the next four years goes quickly and safely for you!

Q: How does the University of Liverpool online masters degree program rate compared to conventional programs?

A: I am not sure exactly... but I just wanted to warn you : Online classes are A LOT more work then just going to school. The teachers feel that they have to overcompensate for the fact that there is no classroom and you usually (I have taken 5 online classes) end up with almost twice as much homework as normal. It would honestly be e asier on you if you found some evening classes somewhere.

Q: Is masters degree program for everyone or not?
unlike undergrad? ima kind of slacker my gpa is 2.6 because my excuse is english is my 2nd langauge and work full time i get c's on essays but good on tests... so am I screwed? i did research they do admit people with low gpa but on probation basis I really want to get masters degree and serous about it

A: It's not for everyone. Just ask Bill Gates. However, if you're serious about it, you need to pull up your grades and visit your college counselor.

Q: What is a good online masters degree program in social work.?
I want to be a marriage counselor as a lcsw.....

A: There are a growing number of distance education programs in social work that have an "online" component. However there are none like (univeristy of phonix that you can do from anywhere). All MSW programs require supervised internships and so they limit where they operate and most of the "online" still require some "residency" I would suggest going to www.cswe.org and looking for accredited MSW programs in your area (or an area you want to move to). Then go to their website and see if they have a distance option. There are more of these "online" programs in the west - e.g. Unvi of portland, Univ. of Denver, Montana, WY and such. DA

Q: What advice would you have for someone about to start a Masters degree program for Elementary Education?

A: If you don't have one already, get a teaching job and get them to pay part of your tuition. They will hire you at a cheaper cost, pay for tuition, and when you finish, you will move up to a higher step on the salary scale. Win-win! As far as your graduate studies, you have to know yourself. Are you the kind of person who wants to push straight through with no breaks for summers? Or do you need your breaks and don't mind working at a slower pace and learning subjects more indepth? People can really burn out in graduate studies. Know when to burn the midnight oil and when to go have fun. Balance in everything is important. Eat right, get plenty of sleep, have time for fun (when you can!), and stay focused on your studies. Let nothing and no one keep you from reaching your goal.

Q: What is a good masters degree program to major in if you have a BA in Sociology?

A: psychology or history or education

Q: How hard is it to get do a joint degree program of a Masters of Arts in Sociology (or History)/JD?
I want to get my law degree as well as my masters in either History or sociology (I haven't decided yet). If you do a joint degree program it gets you both in just 4 years. How hard is it to do one of these? I know that a law degree is no small thing, so would adding a Masters to the program be suicide?

A: It would be just slightly harder than getting a JD. Sociology isn't a particularly difficult field. Getting an MA in History instead would be slightly more difficult -- as there is actual content to be learned in that field.

Q: Have Adapt. PE degree, how many Spec.Ed undergrad courses to qualify for entry to Spec.Ed masters program?
Have Indiana State U. Adaptive PE degree, K-12 certification. Am working in a private clinic/school with autistic & communicative kids and want to professionalize here in Kansas. But there are no Adapt. PE Masters degree programs here as the Special Ed. movement here absorbed the Adapt. PE into itself. How many courses would I probably have to take in undergrad schooling to be able to go for a Spec. Ed Masters?

A: You may not have to take any, but it differs from school to school. You need to contact schools individually. Many schools at the graduate level will waiver some courses for you, and will be more willing to help individualize a program for you based on your past courses and job experience. Good luck!
