Q: How hard is it to get a law degree online?
I am thinking of doing a law degree online but not sure just how much time it will take up. Has anyone done a degree online that can offer some advice?

A: I'm not sure if you're in the UK or the US, but if you're in the UK, you can either do an Open University degree, or a Law degree through London University where the degree is accredited by LSE (ranked in the top 10 british universities). I applied for the LSE degree which when you graduate you are awarded an LLB (same degree as if you were studying at a university) and it's all 'distance learning'. i.e you have online support from tutors, all course materials are sent to you but it's up to you to do the work. Exams can be taken at centres worldwide and you don't have to be in the UK to take the course. It's a lot of hard work but if you're willing to put it in, it'll be worth it in the end. Hope some of this is of help

Q: can i get a law degree online in new york?
I have a bachelor's degree from a S.U.N.Y. college in New York State. Is there a school in New York that offers a law degree ONLINE and permits you take the bar exam upon completion?

A: look at google.com

Q: Joining the Military as a JAG with a degree from an online Law school?
I have completed my BA from American Military University in Marketing. I am interested in obtaining a degree in Law from Concord School of Law Online or William Taft Howard University Online. Will the Military accept me for joining as a JAG with a Law degree from these schools?

A: To be accepted into the JAG Corps you need to graduate from an ABA-approved law school. The schools you've listed aren't approved by the ABA. To my knowledge, no online law programs are ABA-approved.

Q: Looking for an online law enforcement degree from an actual college?
I'm currently enrolled in a four year college. My major is recreation and tourism and I am want to work for an agency like the park service. If I had a law enforcement degree I could be a conservation officer. My college doesn't have a law enforcement minor, just the 4 year degree program. I can't take any of their classes if I'm not in the major. I'm looking for a 2 year degree. The classes at the community college 30 miles away conflict with most of my classes here and there's only two summer courses offered. Does anyone know any online degree programs available? I'm not looking for anything like with U. of Phoenix or Devry, I want something from a well established college, like being able to take something online from the U. of Colorado, ect. Community colleges would work too, I just want the physically existing schools. I'd need to take pretty much eveything online. If I had to go field study I'd hopefully be able to take it with one of the colleges here. Thank you.

A: When I was younger, I accumulated many college credits from a junior college. I got hired and then stopped going to school for a while. In my attempts to finish my degree - I took a few hours at a 4 yr university but stopped. I picked up some college credits from work related courses and then I was promoted. I then obtained a bunch of college credits from Northwestern University while attending School of Police and Staff Command. I took all of these and went to Western Illinois University who offered independent study bachelor degrees and I finally finished my degree. In LE, it is not about the specificity of the degree - its about the degree - so your area of major is not so important. Most state schools have a program like this so check them out.

Q: Information about online law schools, can you help please?
I am considering an online law degree. I know that they are not ABA approved and not as reputable nor as easy to get a job, but I have an MD already and think this might help balance out the equation. Does anybody attend online law school and what do you think? Also is any one aware which ones are cheapest or best? I know the requirements are the same at all of them. Please advise. Thank you for your help.

A: I just went through the law firm recruiting process, and from all the research I did beforehand about how to be successful as an applicant, I really don't think that an online law school is a good idea. A firm will not care that you have an MD if they're hiring you to practice law. They want to get the best lawyer, and that's going to be someone with a JD from an accredited law school, even without an MD, over someone from an online law school with a JD. Aside from that, I would say that more than half of the law school experience is about interaction -- both in the classroom and out of it. It's simply not possible to replicate those benefits in an online setting right now. Law school is a huge investment -- if you're going to do it, do it right. Study your butt off on the LSAT and go to an accredited law school, the best one you can get into (taking geography into account).

Q: is a JD from an online law school in California worthwhile?
I am thinkng of becoming an attorney down the road, but don't have the time for the traditional brick and mortar class room, not to mention the 100k tuition while trying to make ends meet. But I would really rather spend my golden years as an attorney/consultant than a greeter at Wal-Mart. And at 30 years of age, I might be planning too far ahead, but I am at a stage in life trying to decide between either getting a masters degree in taxation or go with the online law degree to eventually get a JD and practice in California. I'll mainly be considering business law and family law consultation, no court room drama litigation stuff.

A: Hi, If you are really set on law school, be sure to do some research. Most students that attend online or CA only approved law schools go into private practice. Most larger & more prestigious firms require a degree from an ABA approved law school. Also, bar exam pass rates are pretty low for online and CA only approved schools. However, if you are looking to save money and are interested in a solo practice (be sure to think about malpractice insurance- expensive!), this may be the right path for you. Good Luck!

Q: Online law degree questions?
Hi, I'm posting this on behalf of a friend. He wants to become a lawyer through an online college and has asked me to help collect information for him. What is the best online college for this? What do you call the degree you need to become a lawyer? I'd appreciate any help I can get.

A: The degree is a JD and you're required to have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) to enter. There are no ABA accredited online law schools. There are several online law schools though that aren't ABA accredited and their graduates are permitted to take the bar exam only in California. Have your friend examine the bar exam pass rates for any school he's considering. The JD takes 3-years (full-time) and is very expensive. You want to pass the bar after spending that sort of time and money. Add: to counter KK a little; that the degree is very in depth and requires a lot of study doesn't support not being online. Most people don't study in a classroom. I study much better away from the distractions of a campus. The main reason this one isn't suited for online study is that it requires debate skills that just can't be developed well (in most cases) online.

Q: what is the best university to get an online law degree from.?

A: you shouldn't get a law degree online. actually go to a university...like havard

Q: Is there an online law school where a graduate student can get their law degree?

A: If you want to get a J.D. (Juris Doctor which is the American Law Degree), there are no places online to get one. Some of my collegues say they are going to drop out of law school and get their degree online, but the American Bar Association requires a certain amount of class time for a degree. A minority of Law Schools do allow part-time programs. For instance, University of Missouri has a part time program. Drake University has a dual PharmD/J.D. program. Many places have MBA/JD programs. Some have MD/JD programs. Because Law School is so intense, most poeple do not do this. What you should do is find a place that has both a law school and a graduate school with what you want to do and so if you can combime them.

Q: Any Pre-Law online Degree programs?
I am looking to start my own private consultation business as far as Providing info on Bankruptcies, divorce/child support modifications, wills/trust,citizenship, expungements, etc. My business would mainly be explaining how to fill out paper and what the process will be. I know that you can do this line of work as a Paralegal but I want to take it a step further, what would be the best educational route to pursue my goal? Thank you for your time!

A: If you have an undergraduate degree (any kind), then a graduate law programme would be the best route for you.

Q: Is there any online law degree study? If there is, what is the name of the institution?
I want somebody to tell me the name of approved institution where one can take Law Degree course On-line.

A: Concord Law School: http://www.concordlawschool.edu

Q: Are there any online law schools that the oklahoma bar association will accept?
I would like to finish a law degree and specialize in education, real estate and children advocacy. But I am a single mother and must work and the nearest school is 100 miles away.

A: Sorry, Oklahoma, like most states, will only take degrees from ABA-approved schools.

Q: Can I apply to law school with an online degree from Kaplan or Phoneix.?

A: Yes I believe so

Q: What are the chances Concord University Law School students will get to take the Georgia Bar within 5 years?
I have a Doctorate in Education and am about to pursue a law degree online through the outstanding school, Concord University Law School. This will qualify me to take the California bar, but I would like to figure out the best way to be admitted to the Bar in Georgia. Could I add on an LLM from an ABA school to qualify to take the Bar in Georgia? What are the steps I can take to impact legislation in this matter?

A: Hmm... a quick look at the Georgia Bar Examiners website says no on the LLM. To take the bar exam or waive in by motion you need an ABA-approved JD. I think there was actually a bill on this issue back in January, but was defeated. There is a provision in the bar rules that talks about schools that are not ABA accredited but nevertheless approved by the bar examiners. I think this refers to the unaccredited law schools that were allowed to keep operating in Georgia until 1998 when the last of them closed. But since the rule is still on the books, it might be your best bet to get Concord to become state bar approved even if it's not ABA approved.

Q: Can you get into law school with a degree from Phoenix Online University?

A: The question should be whether you can get a BIGLAW job and the answer is yes. All a law school primarily looks at is the LSAT score and the GPA. With those high enough you have a shot at any Top law school. For proof of the BIGLAW job: http://www.gtlaw.com/people/biography.aspx?id=6086&detail=1#edu
