Q: What is the difference between earning a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education?
Will the Early Childhood Education degree let me work with elementary kids? Or up to 1st graders or 2nd graders? I have a bachelor fine art degree..I don't know if I should get a B.A. or a M.A. degree in the field of education. Is it necessary for me to get a B.A. in Education even if I have a B.F.A.? Or just getting a M.A. in Education better?

A: Early education allows you to teach Preschool through second or third grade. An elementary ed degree allows you to teach first grade through eighth. Some of this depends on the state in which you live. Because you already have a degree you may want to see what the qualifications are for earning a teaching certicate. This also varies depending where you live.

Q: What's the best college to go to get an Early Childhood Education Degree?
I'm a junior in high school and I'm currently doing the whole "college search" thing, and i was wondering if anyone here knows of any good colleges for an Early childhood education degree? i'm looking into Towson University, but i was wondering if anyone else has a different opinion.

A: Rowan University in NJ is well known for its teaching program (it was called "Glassboro State College" several years ago and was originally known specifically as a teacher's college). It's a great university! I am applying to a Master's Degree Program there.

Q: What is the difference between a degree in early childhood education and elementary education?
I recently talked to a representative from The College of New Jersey, and was told that early childhood education gives you a degree to teach from pre-k through fifth grade, while elementary really only gives a fourth grade to fifth or sixth. Im thinking of teaching third, fourth grade which overlaps and she said it's in my best interest to have a degree in early childhood, is this true?

A: It's not the degree that matters, it's the certification you get afterward.

Q: I'm looking into getting a Early childhood development degree in another state, will my degree transfer?
I'm looking into a college in Indiana, and I'm getting an associates degree in early Childhood development. My mom asked me if my degree earned in Indiana will allow me to teach here in Ohio, and I'm not sure. Does anyone know?

A: Your degree is not what will let you teach in Ohio -- your teaching license is what's going to allow you to teach. What that means is that you have to pass the requirements for an Ohio state teaching license in your field, or be granted a license by a state that has a reciprocal agreement with Ohio. You will likely sit for the licensing exam at the end of your program at your college in Indiana, so what you need to do is talk to the college you're looking at in Indiana and ask if the ECD license in Indiana is reciprocal with Ohio.

Some private catholic schools might even accept your credentials as is while you obtain license, especially in the Early Childhood area. Contact your local state dept of ed for more info. Good luck

Q: What else can I do with an Early Childhood Education degree other than teach?
I graduated last May with an education degree and started to sub this year because of the lack of jobs in my area. Within the last few months I got a long term assignment in a 1st grade classroom and now believe that I am not meant for this profession. The kids are wearing me out and I find myself not interested in creating lesson plans or going in every morning now--My dilemma is now what do I do....I don't have much experience and do not know what companies hire new grads just because they have a bachelor's degree. I am disappointed that I went to school for the wrong thing but I am ready to move on as soon as my assignment is up!

A: I plan of getting a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education... being that I've always wanted to become a Teacher. Yet, I'm sure with your credentials you could work at a Day Care Center, Open your own child-care business, or become a mentor! There are many things you can do, but since the Degree you have is in Childhood Education... it might limit you. I'd even suggest going to get a Master's Degree. Good Luck to Ya

Q: ECE endorsement better than associates degree for early childhood education.?
I want to apply for a preschool job but it says an early childhood education endorsement is required. I graduate college with a asociate of science degree in early childhood education in Michigan. Would this qualify me for this preschool job or is it a seperate degree to get the endorsement? How do I get it? This is really important for me and my career. Thanks in advanced.

A: The endorsement would mean that you will need more education. I am working on my master's in early childhood in Michigan. There are about 5 classes that get you an endorsement in the program I am in, and then if you continue on, you get a masters. You could still get a preschool job without the endorsement, just have to look around for someone who is not looking specifically for the endorsement. If you wanted to get the endorsement you would need a teaching certificate, which means you would need your bachelors degree, to get the endorsement. So the endorsement means more education and most likely if you had it a school district would hire you. Without it, you could look around for private preschools or preschools within child care centers. Good luck.

Q: What types of jobs can I do with a degree in early childhood education?
I am currently a preschool teacher and have been for the past 6 years, but I want a change of pace. I am looking for alternative jobs in the early childhood field. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

A: Have you done the Early Years Professional status? If so you will find lots of roles appearing where this is stated as a desirable qualification. OTherwise check your local council website for current jobs. I have the EYPS and i have found it to be a good way of opening other avenues so look into it.
