Q: Are there any traditional universities that offer online doctoral degrees? (Other than typical online ones)?
I am looking for "traditional schools", not those known for only online degrees such as Univ. of Phoenix, Capella, and Walden University.
i am looking to get my PhD in either education or human resources/business
A: I believe there are a few. What field do you want to get your PhD in?
Q: What is best school to work on an online doctoral degree ?
I am looking for a Doctoral Program to Pursue. Perferably online.
Any Suggestions?
A: University of Phoenix Online
Capella University
Walden University
Northcentral University
Kaplan University
Boston University - Online
Devry University
Minnesota School of Business - Online
Concord Law School - Online
Florida Metropolitan University - Online
Villanova University - Online
University of Advancing Technology
Q: Online Doctoral Degrees?
Are there any universities in the UK that offer On-line study option for a doctoral degree. Does anybody have any recommendations?
I am particularly interested to hear from anyone who has had experience of completing one of these programmes and their views on it, how it impacted on their lives etc.
Thanks AL A - do you or anyone you know have experience of completing this type of program?
Thank you Helen F for the accounty of your own personal experiences. Very valuable indeed. I have completed a Masters Degree entirely online and this is what prompted me to ask this question.
A: Most PhDs don't have a taught aspect at all. They are almost entirely personal research, with some training days and presentations thrown in. Essentially you can work where you like, (subject to the discretion of the supervisor) but will probably be expected to travel to the univeristy for supervision meetings - although these can be carried out on the phone to a certain extent, and with email and instant messenger its certainly easier to do this than it would have been a few years ago. Alot of academic departments have phd students who are working remotely (and even abroad)
However working on your own away from the academic department is pretty isolating, and you tend to need all the support you can get (specifically at the end of your phd when you are trying to write up and not motivated or demoralised). Also having other people around you every day who are researdhing a similar subject can be a huge advanatge as you can bounce ideas off them, get advice, and if you go a bit wrong its more likely someone will notice it sooner rather than later.
If you need to labs, working remotely could be tricky. And if you need specific specialist computer programs, which can be expensive, you may not be able to have these installed on your own computer. But the department may be prepared to provide you with a computer that they would let you use at home.
Its best to find some academics who are researching the area you interested in, who may be able to act as a supervisor, and contact them to discuss options.
Q: any possibilities of getting a doctoral degree from the u.s,only online?
a homemaker so impossible to be on campus even fro a short time.any possibility of a doctoral online degree without toefl scores,i have 7yrs of teaching exp in a college in india.pursued physics, now desiring doctorate in education
A: US doctoral degree online? try bogus degree mills. Because most places won't accept or recognizes thesee degrees
Q: What are the best online degree programs?
What are the best online doctoral degree programs for educational technology?
A: I don't know if there are any that are recognized as best in your field. The one I am familiar with generally that is well recognized is Athabasca University in Canada. I've attached the website. It may be helpful to you at least for comparison purposes.
Q: is a online degree or certification just as good as going to a college to get one?
I have been interested in getting a certification for nutrition, health and wellness and possibly earn a doctoral degree in that career; however, I do not want to pay out extra money to do something on-line if it is not validated enough. I did find a on-line college I was interested in called Clayton school of natural health. Right now I am attending Anne Arundel community college and then I will transfer to Maryland University. Please, anyone give me your expertise and or opinions! Thanks!
Angie
A: A couple of years ago I did my own personal research to find a good on-line college. The sentiment I got from most of the on-line colleges was that they are more show, shock and awe, if you will, then actually focused on learning. In a way, they were more focused marketing of their school name/programs. Of course this isn't true of all on-line colleges, it was just a common trend among the schools I researched.
One school in particular was terrible. I received dozens of calls from their "representatives" and tons of emails almost begging me to enroll. I personally used that as a gauge of how wisely each school used their money. The schools which only sent me the requested information I considered more seriously (because they didn't waist money on marketing).
For me, it comes down to how the school values your tuition dollars. If they are going to spend it on increasing enrollment numbers, they have less to spend on improving the learning environment.
The other area of concern for me was the transferability of credits. In the United States there is no government accreditation, only private national or regional accreditation agencies. Getting credits to transfer between two schools who use different accreditation agencies will be more difficult (sometimes impossible). If you plan to move to a different school or continue with your doctoral degree, make sure you do your research on your school(s) of choice!
One last tidbit about accreditation. Most on-line colleges are accredited by national accreditation bodies while most traditional local/state college/universities are accredited by regional bodies.
As far as which degree is worth more, on-line or traditional college? It all comes down to which school will work best for you. There are a few highly regarded on-line colleges out there which offer a quality education on par with many traditional colleges.
Q: Is it possible to get a legitimate doctoral degree in parapsychology?
What college or university offers a program? Or is it all online "distance learning"?
A: One cannot get a legitimate doctoral degree in parapsychology because it is not considered a legitimate science, and is not a field of study at any respected college or university in the US. This is because the claims of parapsychology (telekenesis, the existence of the spirit world, etc.) cannot be proven to exist using scientific method (experiments that produce consistently reproducible results).
However, there are sociologists and psychologist who study WHY people choose to believe in parapsychology, even though it is not scientifically valid. So, technically, one could get a PhD in sociology or psychology or another field, and write one's dissertation on social functions, or psychological functions, of parapsychological claims.
There are also organizations (businesses, like ghost hunters, psychic investigators, etc.) that accept parapsychological premises, believe parapsychological claims, and charge clients money to investigate them. Employees of these businesses who claim to have degrees in parapsychology have obviously not studied at traditional colleges or universities, because the only such degrees are sold by other for-profit businesses disguising themselves at schools.
Q: Does anybody know of any accredited university who has a totally online ThD or DMin program?
I do not want to leave my wife, job, or city in order to seek a doctoral degree in theology or ministry. I do not want to enroll in a paper or diploma mill scheming institution. I have to work in order to provide income for my family but I feel a great need to obtain a terminal degree. Any help that you can provide will be very beneficial. Thanks!
A: Ministry and theology isn't the sort of discipline that can be learned entirely online or out of books....it's like a doctor or engineer, there's a point where you need discussion, personal interaction/reflection, and practical experience. If you have a true calling to the ministry, that call would be stronger than your attachment to your city or job (and families can always relocate)....and if you don't agree, that should be telling you something.
Also, if you are unwilling to leave your job, why seek one of these degrees (which are, in effect, professional degrees which are required and lead to a new vocation)?
Q: Can I get a Stafford loan for online grad work? For a foreign school if it has a code recognized by FAFSA?
I am looking at a really respected divinity school affiliated with the University of Melbourne. The university itself has a school code recognized by FAFSA, but being a foreign school, does not have American accreditation. It now offers a master's degree program online. I read somewhere that most online programs do not qualify for Stafford loans anyway.
The reason I need this particular program is that I am raising a child and MUST continue to work full time, so online is really my only practical option. And although there are online theology programs in the States, ALL the ones I've seen (and I've been looking for three years) are either diploma mills or Bible colleges. Neither is what I want or need. This is a respected school, and a degree from it will help me get into a doctoral program eventually, which is my goal. Does anyone have any ideas how I can finance this? I'd be so grateful for any advice!
A: You can get federal aid for online graduate programs (I did). I don't know if the fact it is a theology degree will lead to any problems, some programs do not pay for theology degrees. The best place to check would be with that school so call the admissions office and start asking questions.
Q: online doctorate degrees?
I am considering a doctorate at u of phoenix. I recently finished a Masters there but it was on campus. The Doctoral programs however are all online. I am a little unsure about it though. I guess I am a bit of an old fashion student. If someone could shed some light please share.......... I just need a little help on this one. If some of you guys could help out I'd appreciate it.
A: You can do whatever you wish, but your doctorate will not be taken seriously in academia.
This is because PhD level study involves attending colloquia, seminars, lectures, and classes that require a community of scholars and ideas.
Doctoral study also requires close mentoring from an active scholar. U Phoenix employees are not active scholars who participate in national and international scholarly associations, publish in (and edit) prestigious journals, lecture widely, and have high profiles in their areas of study.
Q: college question?
I want to be a judge, pharmist, or just a good paying job. After high school could I take my assoicate-doctoral degree online and would I get paid the same amount(and same job offerings) as I would if I went to a regular college? and what are some high paying jobs that arent too hard? [ not doctors or dentists because i couldnt stand putting needles in people] please answer!
A: Chances are, you'll have a better chance of getting a better job if you get into a better college. (Generally, a bachelors from a highly regarded college/university will be preferred over an AA degree from a local or on-line college.)
As for high paying jobs requiring little work...is there such a thing? Usually, you have to work hard to succeed at anything -- jobs included. (Most judges have their bachelors, their law school degree, passed the State bar, and practiced law, before becoming one. Likewise for pharmacists -- they usually have a 4 year science-related degree with post-graduate degree in pharmacology.) If you're a social person, then perhaps sales is a good option.
Q: What is the starting salary for doctoral school psychologists since most only have a masters or specialist?
I've looked online myself and I've seen that 75% of school psychologists have their masters or specialist degree and I plan to pursue the Ph.D because it gives you more flexibility.
A: I am pursuing my Master's in School Psychology... I know that with a Ph.D, you make about $5000 more than with a Master's; however, it may also be harder to get a job with a Ph.D in School Psychology than it would be with a Master's.
Q: Master's degree, Doctorate, or just Certificates?
I'll be starting my undergraduate degree in Computer Information Systems with an emphasis in Information Systems Security fairly soon. It's an online degree with DeVry University, known well for their technology degrees among others and not just online.
I want to get further education after I get my undergrad degree. My old roommate, at this university I was at for about a year, ended up getting his undergrad degree in computer science and skipping his master's and going straight for his doctorate which he did end up getting and now he's working for Google.
I thought about doing that, but ONE, I don't know if a doctoral program (non-online) would accept an online undergrad degree as a requirement. TWO, my cousin who teaches computer science classes advised that I go for my undergrad degree and then get Cisco certificates instead of going for another degree.
What do you think?
A: A masters or PhD is always better than just certificates. Many Masters includes embedded certificates in the program so in fact is a 'super set' of just getting certificates. A PhD is higher again. If you want to do a PhD you can certainly try to do it from a bachelors but I was advised by my teachers to do a Masters first to ease yourself into it. Masters in information assurance are readily available either online or via class attendance eg

Q: If you're a Chinese citizen, what are your habits, etc. with the use of cell phones, especially while driving?
Cell phones, and their widespread use while driving, are proliferating everywhere - but perhaps nowhere as much as in China. A post-graduate student in Germany, as part of a doctoral thesis research project, needs input from as many Chinese citizens as possible - and ASAP - on this important social and technological phenomenon.
Are you a Chinese citizen who's ready, willing and able to participate in a simple 15-minute online questionnaire session that's part of this groundbreaking study comparing and contrasting cell phone use, habits and device feature preferences among and between Chinese, US and German citizens?
It's as easy as 1-2-3 to get started! To become a part of this important research work - which could not only help developers to pioneer new technologies, feature enhancements and assist authorities everywhere with promoting good driving habits that will save countless lives as a result of cell phone use while driving - go straight to the questionnaire that's waiting for you at:
http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~lep/lime
P.S. You can see from the URL that the doctoral degree candidate undertaking this important study is studying at the prestigious University of Chemnitz in Germany, and so you can be reassured that your name, etc., will NOT be solicited, and you will remain totally anonymous as a survey participant. Ms. Michaela Heinz, the graduate student on whose behalf this question is being posted, greatly appreciates your time, attention, courtesy and cooperation in helping to advance cross-cultural knowledge in ways that will make the world a better place for us all to live in - in China, the US and germany, and beyond!
A: 你是一隻猴子的一個抱歉的藉口。
Q: Masters and Doctoral Programs?
I plan to pursue an online masters degree. I looked into Univ.of Phoenix, and I like the idea of finishing the M.S. clinical psychology in max. 18 months. But they don't offer PhD programs. Walden University offered me a bridge program due to high undergraduate GPA. The bridge program, 4-6 years, allows for me to complete a masters in general psychology, from where the coursework transfers into the PhD clinical psychology. But the masters doesn't include a licensure, and the licensure specializations, in this case clinical, are not accredited by the American Psychological Association, and have not received designation by the Association of State (I am in Calilfornia) and the Provincial Psychology Board. Would the program be a waste or can I take them on my own independently elsewhere? And how can I finally move over to becoming a psychiatrist?
A: You need a medical degree to become a Psychiatrist. You will need to go to a real university to get that.
