Q: What degrees in Criminal Justice can a felon obtain?
I am 24. When I was 22 I was charged with a 4th degree felony theft charge. I stole a ring worth $13,000 and pawned it. I also had a credit card theft charge.
I am currently still on probation, and will be until 3/2008. I am on non reporting probation, have paid full restitution, and have complied with all guidelines set forth.
This was a mistake made out of stupidty, and I am no longer in the trouble I was back then. I was a high school drop out at the time, and have since completed an online course to obtain my high school diploma.
I am curious as to what degrees are available to felons in the postions of criminal justice. I choose this field because I feel with the childhood, and young adult hood I had, I can relate. I want to help others to guide them to a straight and narrow path as I never had anyone there for me. My PO has been a constant friend, and he has gone above and beyond his call of duty for me.
I am just curious if there are any people out there who know.
A: You cannot be a police officer with a felony conviction. However, you can still pursue a career in the field of criminal justice. A strong possibility is a career in alcohol and drug counseling. Many ex-felony offenders have become excellent counselors in the criminal justice system. Also, some state criminal justice divisions (e.g., Texas Department of Criminal Justice) will allow an ex-felon to become a state parole officer, once 15 years has elapsed with no further criminality. It is not impossible to work in the criminal justice system with a felony conviction, but certain avenues are closed, most especially law enforcement. Good Luck and don't give up! I am pleased you had a good PO, many of us do try.
Q: What degrees in criminal justice can a 4th degree felon obtain?
Long story made short.
I am 24. When I was 22 I was charged with a 4th degree felony theft charge. I stole a ring that was worth $13,000, and pawned it.
I have made all restitution, complied with all set forth guidelines, and I have been in no other trouble. I am currently on 2nd year of non reporting supervision. I will be on probation until 3/2008.
My probation officer has been a great friend to me, and he has above and beyond the call of duty for me.
I was a high school drop out when the theft occured and have since completed an on line course to obtain my high school diploma. I am a mother to a little girl and will always teach her right for wrong from now on, and be there for her. I had no one from childhood to adult hood. I want a career in criminal justice so I may guide one to a better life, and from the streets such as my PO did.
I am limited on what positions I could actually hold.
Does anyone out there have any idea of what degrees I could obtain in the CJ feild?
A: You can always become an alcohol and drug counselor. Where it gets tricky when you want to work with kids. I have a BS degree and I am a Felon and did 20 months in prison in Oklahoma. That is our industry - prisons. It's hard, it's very hard. It's a shame you can not get into Police work. You can get state jobs, and not much else. it's a wonder, why this wonderful judicial system we have - we get out of jail, probation or parole and turn around and have to depend on the state for help, because we can't find a job that pays enough to raise our children. Everyone puts you down, when you are already down. So, I hope the best for you and take care of that little girl. I have one too, but she just turned sixteen. She is really learning a lot about our system. And she thinks it's unfair and it is. Yes, for all of you self righteous people out there - no I shouldn't have broken the law - dah...........and because we broke the law, everyone shouts you lost your rights. All I want is to be able to support my child like everyone else. But, you see you aren't like everyone. You and I got arrested, shame, shame, but you know. we are the people who can help other people before they make the mistakes that we did. I was in for Forgery. But, I can go and finish my Masters and become a counselor and for those of you that say, you have no rights! You broke the law! guess what I may counsel you someday... see ya soon!

Q: What other degrees would go well with a BA in Criminal Justice?
I have completed my BA degree in Criminal Justice and I thinking of getting another BA. What would go good with my degree?
Kimpenn sometimes the best advice is from a stranger, why not ask
A: It's one thing when people who are just starting their academic career come on Yahoo! Answers for advice and input about what to study. But come on! You already have a degree. You should know what your options are. At the very least, you should have resources at your disposal. You should not be depending on the advice of strangers for this one.
Eh. . . you may be right. . . chalk it up to early morning crankiness. A degree in chemistry will be helpful if you imagine yourself becoming a CSI-type. Psychology or social work/sociology will give you a better understanding of people if you want to be a detective or work with victims. But really, any degree you're interested in will help you become a more well-rounded person. Computer Science, if you want to work in cyber-crimes (identity theft and such), would also be good.
Q: How can I use my criminal justice degree as a benefit on a pharmaceutical sales cover letter?
The jobs i'm applying for require a 4yr degree in any field.
I'm just trying to figure out how to make my criminal justice degree relatable to pharmaceutical sales.
A: Research, communication skills gained from it, honest, professional...
Q: What are good jobs for criminal justice degree?
I am currently working on a master's degree in criminal justice. Is this a good degree? What are some good jobs that want this degree? Thank you!
A: I graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice. I decided early on that being a Police Officer was not for me. I did an internship with probation/parole during college. My first job out of college was at a Residential Treatment Center for Juveniles as a Residential Counselor. This was a high stress job that paid very poorly. I primarily worked with inner city kids on probation from Minneapolis, MN. All of them had some type of gang affiliation. I learned a lot working at this job but I burned out from it. 16+ hour shifts because the staff turnover was so poor. I worked there for about 10 months. From there I worked as a Program Coordinator of a group home for developmentally disabled sex offenders. This was a very interesting job, I would recommend it as a good job to gain experience in the field. I did that for over a year and got promoted within the company.
I can also mention some of my friends from college. Two of them are police officers, one works in the prison system, one works in probation. Law school is an option. You can get your masters in Social Work and work in the Social Services field-they like people with criminal justice backgrounds! Hope this helps!
