Q: Business Degree???
Ok so I want to do something with business, I have been looking into Healthcare Administration, Business Management and etc. I have no idea what I want to do or what the jobs consist of with different business degrees. I am starting right now at a community college and am having a hard time figuring out what to even take! I could use anyones personal advice on what kind of degree to get ( am wanting to get bachl. degree eventually) within the business or finance etc. range. Please tell me what the job consists of, what classes to take or to get an associates now or what to do. Please if you know include hours and salary too. Thanks so much!

A: Three things to consider. First, you're just starting out at a community college. Second, you want to go on for bachelors degree (hopefully, you might want to go for more someday). Third, you're undecided. With that as your baseline, I think that the best thing that you can do is to take core classes which will be transferable towards a two-year general business AA degree. You can figure out what you want to specialize in when you go for your 4-year degree. If you explain your situation to a counselor, they can help you to pick the classes which will meet the requirements for an AA in general business and will most likely transfer to a four-year program. My guess is that these classes will include English, writing for business, maybe a foreign language, micro- and macro-economics, statistics, general business, business information systems, global business, management accounting and/or financial accounting, and a few electives like humanities/fine-art, philosophy, and psychology. Find out from your counselor if your community college has an associate transfer program (ATP). These are designed to be 100% transferable towards 4-year degrees, whereas AAS or other AA degrees or certificates may not be designed for transferability. Regarding where the jobs are, i'm not an expert. I know that technology management, healthcare administration, e-commerce, accounting, and finance are all good fields and probably will remain so. I would get going on your core requirements for a two-year degree and you can learn more from your teachers and classmates about where the jobs are. Good luck.

Q: What kind of business degree should I get?
I am a professional dancer but I would like to get a business degree to help me further my dance career. I need to learn how to manage money, run a studio, promote myself, etc... All the things that artists are known to be bad at. I will eventually be starting my own business. What business degree would be best to help me accomplish my goals?

A: General business. If you can find a general business with concentration in entrepreneurship that'd work well. A bachelor's degree in your art followed by an MBA would be even better. Specific majors like accounting, finance, marketing, etc... are for people that plan to get a job in that specialty working for someone else - they aren't really being taught to run a business. You'll benefit much more from a general understanding of all of those functions. I've noticed a trend in MBA programs in the last couple years. There are a lot of us "artsy people" following our artistic bachelor's degree with an MBA for exactly the reason you state in your question. If you plan that route, get a minor in business in your undergraduate degree.

Q: What is the Best Business degree to get?
I want to get a business degree, but I cant decide whether I want to go into Business Admin, Virtual Business, or Business education..What degree would give me more success in the future if I want to start my own business?

A: It's not so much which degree, but rather which school... if you want to start your own business after graduation, Stanford is probably the top school in the world - they turn out amazingly successful entreprenuers every year. Spend your time choosing the school, then let your guidance advisor there guide you on the particular degree.

Q: Do you need a business license if you have a business degree?
I have created a business but want to be sure all of my t's are crossed and all of my i's are dotted. I have a business degree, I want to be sure I do not have to back it up with a business license? Some people have advised me to get one just to be on the safe side.

A: Most states require you to have a business license, because most insurance companies require it. And usually if your in business you have to have insurance. ... its the law, in most states. So if I were you I'd go to your local "Better Business Bureau" in your town, and ask !!!! It's always better to have your eggs all in one basket. Do your skilled homework. You do remember homework .. right?? Good Luck.

Q: What degree should I obtain to own my own business?
I'm wanting to start my own business and I need to know what degree I should obtain. With this business, I will be starting up a web site to go along with it (sales). What type of business degree should i go for? The business would be a retail store.

A: This question is impossible to answer if you don't say what type of business you plan to open.

Im clueless with my major but business comes the closest to me to choose. I dont have a hardcore entrepreneur spirit, non managent skills, or hard motivation, any ideas on what specific degree in business?

A: Go with accounting, you get exposure to all areas of the business...operations, finance, etc...Plus, with an accounting degree, you can move to different places within the organization. It will require motivation though...

Q: How hard will it be to switch from a business degree to a degree in the medical field?
I have recently graduated from college with a degree in business management. After entering the workforce I realized what I already knew... I hate business. I have always wanted to pursue medicine. I know that I am capable of getting through a medical program, but realistically how heavy of a workload can I expect? Will it be like starting a new degree from scratch?

A: You asked about a medical degree, and you have been given advice about staying in business, and getting into nursing. If however, you did want to go into medicine, you would need to complete the prerequisite science classes for the medical schools you wish to apply for. An example of the requirements is as follows: English: 6 semester hours Biology Lecture: 12 semester hours Biology Lab: 2 semester hours Inorganic Chem Lecture: 6 semester hours Inorganic Chem Lab: 2 semester hours Organic Chem Lecture: 6 semester hours Organic Chem Lab: 2 semester hours Physics Lecture: 6 semester hours Physics Lab: 2 semester hours College Calculus: 3 semester hours Biochemistry: 3 semester hours (substitute for 3 hours of Biology) You will also need to take and get an acceptable score on the medical college admissions test. There are other criteria which are considered by medical schools, but these vary by school, and you should check with each school's website for the application information. However, if you were to consider a health care career field other than medicine, such as Nursing, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy or other field, in addition to any degree bridge programs which might be available, you would most likely have to get some level of science prerequisites, as the anatomy and physiology and chemistry would likely not have been required for a business program. There may also be some additional math requirements, as business math courses are generally not applicable to science fields. It might be a good idea to see a career counselor at your local university, before starting any new courses. Good luck with whatever field you choose.

Q: How will a business degree not only help me but help me help the world?
I am interested in majoring in something in the business field. How would a degree in something related to business help me? I am also interested in making a difference in the world. How will a business degree help me do this?

A: Good for you! I'm a business professor, and I'm always glad to find people who go into it because they want to do more than just get rich. There are several things for you to think about. One of the things you may eventually be able to do is to employ people who really need jobs, and to give them meaningful work to do, which gives people lives they can be proud of. As someone who will probably eventually get into management, you can also play a big role in helping others to develop as professionals and get a lot of the satisfaction a teacher gets when a child develops into a competent adult. Secondly, you will learn ways to make things work more efficiently and effectively. Yes, you could use this to make liquor or fast food more efficiently and effectively, but you could also use your skills in not-for-profit organizations to ensure that the resources stretch to help more people. Thirdly, many of the world's breakthrough ideas have come about from Research & Development programs in industry. You might be able to run a lab which finds a cure for a deadly disease, or one which finds an alternative energy source to save the planet. Yes, it is the scientists and engineers who make the actual discoveries, but it is management which funds them and allows them the flexibility, facilities, and funding to do so. Lastly, there is the whole area of social entrepreneurship, which is the development of products and services to help the world. The new $100 computers to give access to children in developing countries to technology is an example, as is the wheelchair project, which provides inexpensive wheelchairs to disabled people living in poverty, giving them mobility and a place in their societies.

Q: What are the best jobs for a business degree in the Navy?
I want to pick a job that will give me experience in business or financing, which would make my resume look better to companies or schools. Eventually I want to be an office administrator or something similar. What job would give me the best experience for that when I get out in 4 years? This experience plus a Bachelors or Masters degree should make me more competetive in the job hunt when I get out.

A: most of the ADMIN ratings are going away..either replaced with civilian contractors or merging PS, SK or YN(and the aviation related AZ) this assumes that you qualify for these ratings and there is a need for these ratings when you go to MEPS and speak to the detailer. be advised that advancement for these ratings is not exactly the greatest either.

Q: What can I do with a bachelors degree in business administration?
I currently work as an architectural drafter with an associates degree in drafting and design. I am interested in a bachelors in business online. Is this a good way to go if I want to get into construction management? Would an empoyer value a business degree for construction management since I have related experience?

A: Yes, a bachelor's degree will be an asset to you and a future employer. However, don't get it from a strictly online school though. These will be for-profit schools and they usually overcharge. It is better if you can get your degree from a state school. The degree you earn from a state school will be no different than a degree earned by an on-campus student. Here are some schools for you that have online programs. Most of the following are state schools. http://www.fhsu.edu/virtualcollege/ http://www.peru.edu/offuttafb/degreeprograms/onlinelearning.htm http://outreach.uwyo.edu/ocp/ http://www.distance.msstate.edu/ http://www.distancelearning.ufl.edu/degrees.aspx http://www.apu.apus.edu/index.htm http://www.online.uillinois.edu/ http://www.depts.ttu.edu/ode/CollegeOverview.asp When you choose a school, make sure it is at least regionally accredited. You can check accreditation at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/search.asp You can learn more about accreditation at http://www.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html There are a couple of forums online with members who have obtained their degrees online. Some have gone pretty far with their online degrees. The forums are free to join but you can read the forum without joining. You just won't be able to post. http://forums.degreeinfo.com and http://www.instantcertonline.com/forums Good luck,

Q: What can I do with an International Business Degree?
I am about to graduate from college this semester with a degree in International Business and a minor in Spanish. I have no idea what to do with this degree. I am very interested in travel and do not want a typical entry level desk job. I have one now and I know that I will hate it in the future. Im looking for an exciting job where I would enjoy going to work everyday. Any ideas?

A: How about becoming a management analyst? There's good information on it here: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos019.htm You'll find other options here: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_kind_of_job_can_you_find_with_a_bachelor's_degree_in_International_Business_Administration_Management http://www.worldwidelearn.com/online-education-guide/business/international-business-major.htm http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=what+can+I+do+with+an+international+business+degree%3F

Q: What kind of job can I get with a business degree that will allow me to be around sports?
I am a senior in high school, meaning college is on my horizon. I have maintained a good high school GPA allowing for quite flexibility for the future. I have also been an avid sports fan my entire life. I read forums, read the newspaper, have fantasy teams, and love my Dallas Cowboys. My question: Are there any jobs, with some kind of business degree, that will allow me to be involved with a sports organization? Thank you.

A: I suggest going to sports organization web sites and look at the jobs people have. Contact their human resources department and talk to them about jobs that they hire for and the qualifications and requirements. You can consider being a sports agent but this may require being a lawyer. You'll have to go to law school after you get a business degree. If you want to work for a major league team your best chance maybe getting an MBA from a well known MBA school. You can also check with the job placment office at the college you plan to attend. They can help you. Also your counselor in hich school and college can also help you.
