Q: What is the difference between technical schools and community college?
i want want to go to school for fashion design but i dont no which one is better .

A: tech schools teach trades and community colleges are 2 year versions of university. either one can teach fashion design.

Q: what is your opinion on technical schools & the people who attend?
Is there a certain image you get when you think about vocational or technical colleges and the people who attend them?

A: yeah. My view is pretty brutal so hang on: Someone who wants to acquire a skill and GET A JOB.

Q: Where can I find a LEGITIMATE list of the country's best technical schools?
NOT a list written by a school (duh) or a bank looking for loan applicants or anything or anyone that cannot be considered a 100% objective source. A news magazine, network television show, the NY Times, etc. One might think this would be easy to find but it is not. And I need it to be updated, recent. My brother is considering Nevada, as he heard they have a top top tech school there, but I haven't found anything to back that up yet. There are SO MANY SCAMS out there regarding tech schools. I was told by a tech recruiter today that we can expect 20-30 scams for every piece of legit school info we find, and it will still be hard to dig it up, even at that. Does anyone who does NOT gain anything by telling us where we can find a solid listing know where we can do just that? THANK YOU SO MUCH!

A: Sallie Mae's website has great tools. Check this out: http://salliemae.com/before_college/students_plan/select_school/selection/searching_schools.htm FYI, Sallie Mae is the nation's leading provider of student loans, but they don't try to coerce you into attending a particular school. This is the government's financial aid for students.

Q: Are colleges like Everest college as reputable as local state colleges or technical schools?
Would it be more difficult to find a good job after attending something like an Everest college compared to the other choices?

A: I don't know about Everest but Kaplan and the University of Phoenix are usually accepted by most employers but if I were you I would attend community college, state college, or a technical school because an employer cannot deny that.

Q: How to search Air Force technical schools for information management, supply at Mississippi?

A: I'm stationed in Biloxy Mississippi at the Keesler Air Force Base. I'm not really sure what your asking though. I might be able to help if I knew your question

Q: Why aren't technical schools teaching solar technology along with other trades?
Are we going to have to import technically competent people from China in order to be able to use solar energy?

A: We are a gasoline based economy. The funding is not made available for solar programs at State Universities. You can study geology and everything related to oil exploration, because the government has made the funding of these programs in public universities available. When our government gets different leadership with an eye for the urgency of the need for developing this technology , things will turn around. Meanwhile you can study solar technology at Oxford, England, and in Japan at most universities, and in Germany at most engineering universities... Solar technology us usually taught as part of an aerospace engineering program. Maybe you will be the one to make a change!

Q: How do Air Force technical schools work?
Are there "A" schools and "C" schools like the Navy, or do you just go to one school for your entire MOS? I want to be a Radiology Tech, "Diagnostic Imaging" 4R0X1

A: If you are going into a medical specialty the Army may be handling your training, as that training is being consolidated. Air Force tech schools train to a particular skill level. They most generally use behavioral objectives, meaning they test and grade based on performance. In the Air Force they don't call it an MOS. It's an AFS, short for Air Force Specialty, and an AFSC, short for Air Force Specialty Code. Some performance-based training is self-paced, meaning students can progress at a speed comfortable to them.

Q: How does technical schools help students prepare for a career?

A: Technical schools are geared to teach students the exact skills necessary to be successful in a given career. They don't have many extraneous required courses. A two-year degree from a tech school will include about 45 credit hours of specific skills. Not too bad. For example, I used to teach at ITT Tech in the Dallas area. The students there who were enrolled in the electrical program took two courses that were NOT electrical in nature -- one was tech writing and one was oral communication. Compare that to my bachelor's degree. I took 36 hours of English (my major), 21 hours of history (my minor), and more than that combined of core and electives in psychology, math, science, and sociology. Tech schools are a phenomenal option for those students who want to get the skills they need for a given profession to immediately get to work. On top of teaching the skills, most tech schools also have great placement services that help put the students in touch with companies and professionals in the career path.

Q: How can technical schools help students prepare for a career?

A: Technical (and vo-tech) schools cut right to the bone...they do not require you to take any liberal arts classes as colleges do. They have a variety of courses from beautician to plumber to licensed practical nurse to dental hygienist to electrician and everything in between (although not all technical schools offer all possible courses). In these programs you learn what is necessary for the career you choose. They usually work closely with businesses in the towns where they are located to offer courses that the businesses want or need for their employees. Be sure that the school you choose is accredited so that your course hours are transferable to other institutions. Schools that are accredited by nationally recognized agencies usually offer better programs and some of the credits can be transferable to another tech school or college.

Q: Where is the best Place to look information about careers and technical schools?

A: My butt. Ha ha j/k... I LOVE you!!

Q: what about all these trade technical schools?
what do you guys think about all these trade and tech schools...ITT, everest college, american career college, etc. they teach you how to do or be a mesage therapist, business admin, dental asst, and parol officer. are these schools worth the time and money?once you graduate how much money do these people really make?

A: There is very little you can do with these degrees from many tech schools. They offer degrees in criminal justice- but to be a cop you need a degree from an accredited school. In NY the police department does not accept this, and the city college offers a cheaper and better program. They offer a degree in business- but I bet your local community college does, too, and employers will look more fondly on that. Before you do this, check out what your local community college offers. What are you interested in, and what are you good at? See if the community college offers something you would like.

Q: How are Universities accredited versus technical trade/art schools that claim they are accredited?
Why is one more "definite" (not sure if that's the right word) for Universities to get a degree over the other? Like Online schools that have an accredited notice, is that legitimate as a University. Why do careers have a favor over another?

A: US accreditation is confusing (and there will be exceptions) , but you can put US Institutions into 3 categories: *Regionally accredited – The highest and most useful. The vast majority of US schools are regionally accredited. Accreditation does not mean prestige, only that it has passed a review. *Nationally accredited – Real schools, but a lower level of accreditation. It may limit credit transfer and / or professional licensing (Certified Public Accountant, Registered Nurse, Professional Engineer). *Unaccredited – Not worth the paper they are written on. Whether the delivery method is online, onground, or a mix of the two is irrelevant to accreditation. Check here before you enroll: http://www.chea.org/search/default.asp I think that answers your question, but wanted to add this for any other readers. On top of the institution accreditation, programs within the school can have specialized or programmatic accreditation on top. This accreditation can be nice to have or need to have. For example, a regionally accredited institution can have a law program. The law program NEEDS to be additionally accredited to allow graduates to sit for the Bar exam. For example, a regionally accredited institution can have an MBA program. The MBA program can also have an AACSB accreditation that only a small % of schools have. This is a nice to have, but not required for any licensing or to meet other requirements.
