Q: Secondary School?
My 11 year old daughter is about to go to her induction day for her new secondary school she is extremely nervous and as she is my first child I dont have any experience.. what tips shall i give her? anything is welcome! xx Thank you xx
A: dont pretend your a mum?
Q: What happens after secondary school in the UK?
In the US, we go to high school until we're eighteen. I've heard that secondary school ends when students are sixteen. What do they do next? If anyone wants to explain the whole UK grade system to me that would be amazing=D
Thanks!
A: Right....
During the Last 2 years of secondary school ("years 10 and 11", ages 15 and 16 approximately), you study for your GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) usually in 10-12 subjects, some compulsory some optional. Coursework takes place over the two years, and there are final exams at the end. Grades are A*ABCD etc. Only grades A* - C count for anything.
After GCSEs a lot of students carry on to do A-levels. A levels take 2 years and are divided into two parts - AS and A2, usually students take 4 AS subjects, drop one, and continue the other 3 to A2 level.
A-levels are used as criteria for admission to university. A levels are graded ABC etc (note no A* at A level). Clever people can also do Advanced Extension Awards in some subjects.
University applications are made through a centralised system - UCAS - with a single application form. Applications are made before the A2 level exams, so you and the university have to try to guess how you'll do at A levels. Offers are made before A level results come out and are conditional on achieving whatever results the offering university wants. Some universities require AAA or even AAAA results.
University grading is by "degree classifications" a 1st is the best, then 2:1 (upper 2nd), 2:2 (lower 2nd), 3rd.
Q: Do you know a secondary school in uk where boys have to wear short pants all year round ?
For my son! He is attending a prep school where boys have to wear shorts all year long and he'd like to do it in his future secondary school too.
A: In the UK you can wear any kind of pants you like - boxers, y-fronts etc
I don't know of any schools where boys have to wear short trousers all year round. I had to when I was in primary school but that was 30 years ago!
Q: What do you think of the new primary to secondary school thingy?
I mean its sort of like a raffle.
Im smart (dont mean to sound big-headed), but only got into an average secondary school.
A: The idea is that it's a raffle so that getting a good place will come down to luck rather then how well a child's parents can rig the system in their child's favour.
How smart you are is nothing to do with getting into secondary school (unless we're talking about the 11 plus & grammar schools), it comes down to your parents choices when they applied & if they successfully appealed a decision they didn't like. Bright, motivated children with support will thrive regardless of circumstances.
What happens is basically middle class parents have successfully worked the system for a number of years to secure places at the best schools for their kids or if they're not awarded the place they want they're better able to access the tools they need to fight the system & win - I'm not saying every middle class parent is like this, every parent has an obligation to their best by their child.
The other problem is proximity, poorer children in poor areas don't fulfil the distance criteria for the better schools & their parents are often not in a position to change the odds in their favour.
Random selection means everyone's in the dark & they all more or less of an equal chance of being allocated a cr*ppy or a brilliant school.
Q: What training, education, or experiences are necessary to become a Secondary School English teacher?
I really need to know all the requirements of becoming a Secondary School English Teacher. I don't care if it's a long list of things, as long as it's all of the requirements.
A: All you need to do is this:
Apply for Secondary Education, major in English. Then you will need to apply for Education (ba)
It'll be 4-5 years.
And ta-da! You're an English teacher at a HS.
OR
You can apply for General Arts, Major in English (3 years)
Then apply for Ba in Education (2 years)
...However, I live in Canada...so maybe talk to a counsellor.
Q: How much is the average salary for a starting teacher in a secondary school?
I am looking to become a sports teacher in a secondary school and was wondering what the starting salary might be.
A: $31,753.00 to $47,602.00.
Q: Can we do one preference only on the admissions form for secondary school 2009?
Our son is going to secondary school in 2009 so we are now in the process of filling in the admissions form. We have one preference only from a choice of three. Can we put our first choice school and that's it. Has anyone done this and what was the outcome. We are reluctant to use all three preferences as the other choices are not what we want for our son(nor does he). The school is out of catchment but is linked to his primary. Any help on this would be aprreciated.
A: Worst case senerio is this (I'm assuming you're UK)
If your son didn't get into the school you had listed he would go to the very bottom of the pile and be given the very very last place that nobody else wanted!
The system works so that any 2nd and 3rd place preferences are ignored unless he doesn't make it into his first place. You aren't doing him any favours by not listing 2nd and 3rd places. You might find him in a terrible school miles away and if you try to appeal you won't have a leg to stand on because you didn't list other options.
Speak to the school you want him to go to and find out what the situation is - how likely do they think it is that he'll get in. Speak to your admissions team at the Council and see what advice they can give you. But also, please - start talking up the other schools for the sake of your son - don't let it happen that he ends up at a school that he knows his parents think is rubbish etc.
Also remember that schools change very quickly- new teachers come and n grants come and 2 years in the place might undergo a radical turnaround. That's not to say I don't think you should fight for the school you want him to go to - always log an appeal no matter what!!
Good Luck
Q: What course would you have to do at melbourne uni to get qualified as a secondary school teacher?
What course would you have to do at melbourne uni to get qualified as a secondary school teacher?
A: You would actually need "several" courses, not just one to qualify as a secondary school teacher. Usually, the Education marked courses, for example, ED 201. You should contact the school directly for more guidance, or check out one of their catalogs. Good luck.
Q: I want some few tips how to run my private secondary school successfully?
I want some expert's advice for the management of my own private
secondary school .We have great competition here.I want to make
a difference.
A: You don't say what state you are in - but whether you are in a state with charter schools or not -- I suggest you contact some charter schools and start a dialogue with their founding members.
Q: I am facing an Appeal Hearing for a Secondary School placement - anyone got any tips / advice?
I am facing an Appeals Hearing for a Secondary School placement for my son for this September - the whole process sounds quite scary - and we have alot riding on this - anyone got any advice or tips for me?
A: This September's figures for secondary school are high all over the country I know of 5 children in my village who have been refused their 1st choice as their preferred school (which my son got into last year ) is full to bursting. - And apparently it's the same next year.
Q: Do the majority of kids in secondary school need a belting?
I was working in a school as a contractor and the kids need a hiding. When my lads attend secondary school and they speak like that to teachers, I will smack the crap out of them.
A: I couldn't be a teacher, if any of the kids spoke to me how i've heard them speak to teachers they'd end up wearing the white board. I don't do spoiled mouthy little craps, i can't stand it.
I've been in classes with ones like it, frankly i wanted nothing to do with any of them because they were all mouthy thinking they were funny, and weren't. They were simply dickheads. Those people, need to be home schooled.
Q: How do you make friends in secondary school?
YAY! I got into the secondary school I wanted but I'm not sure how I will make friends. Do you just go up to people or do you wait for people to come to you. Please help!
A: just talk to people in your form, and your setted classes.
within a week of starting year 7 , i had the best new friends, that im still with now, and going to college with in september.
youll be fine, you seem a nice, caring, normal person.
who wouldnt want that as thier friend?
:D good luck, secondary school, especially years 7 and 8 are fabulous.
im jealous of you just starting now, ive got gcses and a levels to do :(
Q: What would be a good funraiser for a secondary school?
I am principal of a secondARY SCHOOL and i need to raise some money for our school and to kids in Poverty. It would be nice if you could help me help!
A: well you could do the traditional type stuff, raffles, cheese rolls selling, sell confectionery etc to people and have a prize for the people who sell the most etc.
but it depends what specifically they are going to do with the money that you can use to help you. like at my school they raised money so children in Gambia could have bikes so they could ride to school, and they like drew a bike really big with chalk on the court and collected coins which they put on the drawing outline and if you donated you got a ride on one of the bikes they had there. which sounds really simple and doesn't cost anything but it worked really well.
or another good thing is a people auction where you buy students or teachers to do jobs for you for a length of time which is fun to watch he he.
or another thing my school did was sell bricks. it sounds silly but they put some new brick pavings in so they let people "buy one" that is they got to pick a message to put on it which got engraved on and that made a good profit.
well there a millions of ideas i could go on and on but i hope you fundraise lots =)
