Q: school work?
any ideas how i can try to focus more in school work. im not a verry good writer and it takes me about a day to get a 3 page essay done. (collage student)
any tips on writing essay?
A: Start with an outline of your essay.
Then go back and add some details in the outline. Take a break for about 1 hour - even if you work on something else.
Come back and read the outline again. Add a few more details.
Take a break.
Take the outline with you. If you are someplace waiting for a few minutes, take the outline out and see what else you could/should add.
As you add your details, your outline will gradually start to become your essay. And (from personal experience), when you write something - go away - and then come back to it - you will see items where you left things out - or where items should be added.
The old saying, practice makes perfect. Is true.
I always go over the material I write, at least 3 times. And I have written studies/strategic plans for state agencies.
If you do not have a spell checker/grammar checker - get one. The average person's reading comprehension level is the 9th grade. And when running your essay thru this software, it will help by pointing out when you are using a PASSIVE voice and an ACTIVE voice. PASSIVE voice is not convincing to people.
I tend to get too wordy. But Malcom Forbes (Billionaire owner of Forbes magazines) recommended "Keep it brief". Also, when President Lincoln gave his Gettysburg Address he was not the headline speaker. Some Congressman was. The Congressman spoke for hours. Lincoln's speech has 80 words - and over 100 years later - we all have heard of Lincoln's speech. But the comments by the Congressman who spoke for so long has been forgotten.
Q: How hard of a school is Wake Forest work wise after you are accepted?
I am a high school student looking for any wake forest graduates or someone who is in wake presently and knows how much work is involved. I presently go to a private school in Georgia and am torn between two schools. I want to have fun in college but also go to a prestegious college. Wake is a great school but i am just not completely sure of the amount of work that is involved, how much free time people have, and if the pro humanitate theme/message rules your life to the point that you almost feel pressured to be involved. If you have any information reguarding this please let me know. Thanks alot.
A: Wake Forest is a much more difficult school than people realize. I just graduated from the school in May 2006 and I certainly had to study more than my friends at Ivy league schools. I think this is because there are only like 4,000 undergrad students so you can't blend in with the masses and your teachers actually do know your name. On the other hand, having a degree from there is basically worth gold and graduate schools really do recognize that it is a challenging school (I just got into Harvard grad school). Also there are so many clubs and events that after spending one year there you will realize that the university actually does care about you and not just the tuition you pay. Lots of personal attention. To be real, if you are the the type of student who wants to party away your college years and have a break from the work in high school then you should go somewhere else. If you want to have a well rounded college experience, get your money's worth of an education, and challenge yourself then you should go to Wake. It was the best decision I ever made.
Q: How important is school Project Work as compared to academic performances?
Our schools and teachers have been stressing on getting good grades so as to enter into a college of our choice. But do you feel that school project work should be held the same weightage as our academic records when it comes to preparing for college? For one thing, school project work focuses on communication & working cohesively as a grp, which are essential for our future career.
Do share with me your views ad thoughts on this topic. Thanks ^^
A: Interesting question.
My view is that they are both important to your future career.
You will need to demonstrate that you can gather, assimilate and retain information quickly, accurately and independently. This is akin to studying a given subject and then demonstrating your individual knowledge on a test.
You will also be required to work in group settings and contribute to the successful completion of a project. Others in your group(s) will always be relying on your individual knowledge and skills, as well as your ability to work in a team setting.
Apply yourself equally to both and you'll do just fine!
Q: Any ideas for a school theme day at work this Friday, where staff will be invited to dress up as?
We're having a school theme day at work this Friday, where staff will be invited to dress up as school children, teachers, dinner ladies etc.
There are prizes for the best dressed team and our team would like to add some decorations to our office to impress the judges.
So far we've decided we will
1. Make a mock blackboard
2. Have an apple on our managers desk
3. Have alphabet signs up "A is for Apple" "B is for Bear"
Can you think of any other ideas?
A: Bribing the judges is the best way!!! You knwo how you got a stick to wear on your shirt at school when you were good. Have stickers on your desk ready to give out to people.
Somehow if you can use report cards or give them out.
When you go to lunch break, hang a sign on your desk that says out to recess, will be on the playground.
Q: How do you make attending school abroad work when you are engaged to be married?
I am considering applying to schools in Europe for graduate school (I live in US). My fiance supports this and wants to move there with me for the 18 month program. I would be a full time student, but how hard would it be for him to move with me? Would he have to get a work visa and would it be very difficult for him to find a job? Would it be easier if we were married first?
A: Being only 18 I wouldn't know much about marriage but my sister is currently studying abroad and i know that she works part time. I don't believe she needs working papers and I'm sure if you set it up ahead of time you could get them fairly quickly. If its meant to work then it will. Just be glad that he will actually get to stay with you- think about all of the soldiers who have to leave their fiances/ wives/husbands/ and unborn children to go fight for a year or two. I'm sure you'll find away to make it work.
Q: How tough is it to balance work, grad school and family?
I'm planning to being a master's degree this fall in communications, and I was wondering if it's advantageous to work full-time (or even part-time) while I'm in grad school or to concentrate more on grad school and just go to grad school full time instead. I'm married and have a newborn child as well, so I would need to balance family too. What is the workload like?
A: It depends how quickly you need to qualify and get back to the workplace. From my experience, I prefer to have time for my family and life, so I work part time and study part time. It will take a bit longer to complete my degree, but I have good quality of life in the meantime. I would start off with just one or two classes and see how well you cope - you can always load up in the next semester if it's more than manageable.
Good luck!
Q: How Does a school board of directors work?
I live in a Middle Eastern country that rarely adopts a school system where a school board of directors is present.Usually only the principal has all the power and capability in a school's tasks and abilities.I'm researching about how a school with a board of directors work and how it differs, how many people it is ade of, and how tasks are divided...etc
Thanks!
Note: links would be appreciated!
A: In the US, a school board might be appointed by another elected political body (such as a city council) or it might be directly elected by the public at large. There might be 5-10 members on the school board. The school board's function is usually to report to the city council on the quality of the schools and to set school policy. The extent to which principals and the superintendent of schools "report" to the school board can vary. Sometimes the school board has a lot of power, other times they are strictly advisory. A good place to start would be to have a body of about 5 people appointed by the local governance that reports back in an advisory capacity.
Q: Is it possible to get dental work done at a school for dental assistants and technicians?
Ok, here there is no dental school close to where I reside.BUT, there is a school for medical & dental assistants and technicians. Would it be safe to get work done at this kind of school?
A: No, since dental assistants can not perform restorative procedures... they can only assist the dentist when they do it.
Edited to say that licensed assistants, if applicable in your state, can work independantly and perform expanded duties, but only under the in-office supervision of a licensed dentist.
Q: Can i go to school for dental assistant and work for orthodontics?
I was just wondering, if i went to school for dental assistant, if i'd have to do something extra or different to work in orthodontics? I asked the receptionist at my dentist office, but she was no help. Thanks!
A: Yes, you can go to school to be a dental assistant, and then go on to work at an orthodontist's office if that's where you want to be!
Entry-level dental assisting courses will teach you dental terminology, charting, oral anatomy, suctioning, retraction, radiology, infection control, sterilization techniques... you will learn how to pour models and pass instruments, as well as learn the names for them. There's so much to learn, but the basics will be covered.
Healthcare Provider CPR w/AED is another class you want to take if you don't already have it. You'll need your hepatitis series of shots, as well as your TB.
Some states require certification in Radiation, Health & Safety in order to take xrays. Some states also require certification in chairside assisting (CDA) or state licensure in order to perform expanded duties. If you go to www.danb.org, you can find your states info.
There's no reason you can't work for an orthodontist if that's what you want to do. Having taken the entry-level course, it'll help you get your foot in the door, then you can learn the legal tasks allowed by orthodontic assistants in your state.
You could always find an ortho office that will allow you to 'shadow' thier assistants, or a general office for that matter... it will give you an idea of what's actually done besides just suctioning and passing instruments....
Best of luck to you!
Q: How late can a minor work on a school night in Wisconsin?
I was just wondering, because I am 16 years old and at my work my shift usually goes until 11:00pm on school nights, and we aren't allowed to leave until the entire store is clean and approved by a manager and sometimes that means staying more than half an hour past 11! Is that even legal on a school night?
A: Sixteen and 17 year old minors may work up to 5 hours on a school day and up to 26 hours during a school week. On school days they may not work prior to 7 a.m. nor later than 11 p.m. During non-school weeks these minors may work up to 50 hours per week and any time day or night. If they work between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., they must have direct adult supervision.
Sounds like they should not be keeping you later than 11 to clean up on a school night.
Q: What work experience do I need for Med school?
I'm an aspiring doctor in Y11, and I have 2 weeks for work experience at the end of the school year. I've applied for one week at a hospital, but what work experience is relevant and useful for applying to med schools?
A: they would really like it if you can manage to organise something at a GPs as this would show you have experience of both primary and secondary care. Anything that involves teamwork or working with different people from society is good too-how about visiting an old people's home, helpig out at brownies/scout/nursery etc. and also you could volunteer in the summer at a play scheme or camp for those with disabilties.
Q: How does a international high school student get a work permit in Nova Scotia?
Im a 18 years old high school student in Nova Scotia.
I have been studying here for 2 years, I am looking for a part time job.
Does anyone know how to get a work permit or where to work without work permit?
A: If you are here on a study permit, you can't get a work permit until you are in University here.
If you want a little pocket money, try babysitting or dog walking, or some other casual work.
Q: How much work should I do while in graduate school?
I'm trying to work out my schedule. I'm going to graduate school working on an MA in history. I'm taking 9 hours, this will be hard enough as it is. I got offered a job overnight for 2 days a week = 16 hrs. This is being a computer lab monitor, so it's job I would be able to study at. I already have 2 other jobs, as a tutor I get 8 hours a week,, and I do substitute teaching which brings me about 24 hours a week.
Should I take the night job for 16 hours? I would be able to study at it, but I'm worried that this will be too much for me to handle at once, and maybe I should take it easier. Can you do graduate school and work 48 hours a week?
A: I don't think that I could go to school full time and work full time too unless I were working in the area of study such as a research assistant.
Even with the ability to study at work as a lab monitor - you won't be able to study with complete concentration.
That MA in History is probably going to require a serious amount of research and writing; you're going to need the time to yourself to be able to put in a legitimate level of preparation. This isn't going to be like an undergrad paper that you can toss together in a day or two. As a history major, it may even require some field study that having multiple jobs will really interfere with.
I use the rule of thumb that work hours per week + credit hours per week should = no more than 50 and 40 is much better. But then, that's just me.
Q: Do you work full time and go to nursing school part time?
I am planning on a career change and want to go back to school to get an LPN next year. I work nights in an office and could go to school part time in the evenings. Is anyone doing or has done this? I need any and all tips of any kind that would be helpful.
I have no young children, and am single.
A: I worked full time to pay for my education through my BSN-RN program. It was difficult, but I was able to manage, and my employer was flexible in working around the schools clinical rotation schedule.
I also worked full time while obtaining my MSN as a Nurse Practitioner, and my Ph.D.
If you have a goal, go for it, During my MSN, I had 2 babies at home, but my wife took the time to be a stay at home mother. During my Ph.D., my wife was also taking her BSN program full time, and our kids were in pre school and kindergarten. Again, it is difficult, and time consuming, but we made time for school, work and our family.
If you want it, go for it!
Q: What are good ideas for a school trip that includes team work but is still fun?
I would like to know your ideas because my student council is trying to find a new place to take our trip for the beginning of the school year so everyone can get to know each other and work together but still have fun while doing it. The place we normally go is called Pocono Plateau. It's like a huge rope course but most of the kids have already gone there in the past years. So any ideas would be helpful. THANKS!

It would be nice if it was a thing to do off of school property. The place we normally go is called Pocono Plateau. Age of kids: 10th-12th graders
Location:Northeast PA
Sorry! i have the same information twice
A: How about offering your services to a Habitat for Humanity project in the area???????
If you don't like that idea, then I would suggest either calling a Human Resources Manager at a corporation near your OR going on line and googling "team building" ideas. Many corporations take their teams on 'retreats', combination of boot camp and office getaway. Paintball??? Have a more "FUN" trip (water park, etc) at the end of the year as a "thank you, what a great job".
