Q: school uniforms?
do u think students in public schools should or shouldn't have school uniforms please explain why or why not
A: Yes!
Q: What are some benefits of school uniforms?
I'm going to be going to a school that inquire school uniforms. What are some good things about school uniforms and some bad things about school uniforms?
sorry about inquire whoops!
A: I where uniforms to school, and some negatives are probably how boring everyone looks, and the uniforms generally have no shape to them. I think they're meant to be as unflattering as possible.
The only real positive is that you never have to decide in the morning what you want to wear. It's much easier to get ready. It's a total lie if people say "there's less judgement" because there will always be judging in high school. If the rich kids can't wear designer clothes every day, they'll just wear designer jewellery every day and carry around expensive purses wherever they go.
Oh, and I guess one more positive, you appreciate wearing normal clothes so much more on civvies days.
Also, just a tip, try on the guys golf shirts at the uniform store. At least for ours, the girls go really large around the bust and fit horribly baggy, but the guys fit tight and much nicer (all you have to do is roll the sleeves a bit).
Q: What do you think about school uniforms?
People believe that school uniforms will smother our indiviuality. It's not what we wear that makes us who we are. It's how we act. If people are so worried about what they look like, just look at japan. It's one of the biggest fashions to accessorise their uniforms.
Personally I would love to have uniforms in my High school school. I hate seeing people able to get by with wearing what ever they want just because they're one of the schools favorites. I know uniforms won't stop favoritism but at least it won't be so obvious.
I know some uniforms can be a little expensive. They allow you to get by with less clothing if needed. One or two uniforms for the week that you can wash and rewear, a nice sunday outfit, maybe something nice for a formal occassion, and then the rest can be of what ever you want and how much you want, if you want anymore clothes.
A: I like the idea of school uniforms and think school uniforms are a great equalizer. I wish there had been uniforms when my children were in school. With uniforms the kids who come from families with not so much money don't have to worry about not having the "right" clothes, shoes, etc. Uniforms also help create a school identity and bond. They make shopping for school clothes very easy, and certainly make life easier for parents. I'm all for school uniforms.
Q: What is your opinion about school uniforms?
We are working on a school uniform debate and would like your opinion. Although there are many reasons for school uniforms, there are many reasons for not getting them as well. If you have any facts that are AGAINST school uniforms, (con), then please post them. Thank you very much.
A: as a kid i used to hate them, they were frumpy and old fashioned and boring colours and you could not express your individuality. However, now I am all grown up, I can see the benefits. It reduces bullying since there isn't that pressure to keep up with the latest designer fashion., it gives a sense of belonging to the children, it makes them easily identifiable which is very important from a safety point of view if for instance, you were on a school trip. Unforms mean that your own clothes aren't spoilt, so you can keep your best stuff for when you are not in school, it also saves time in the morning - you dont have that "whatever am i going to wear today?" problem. And it is good training for when you are in the big wide world and working for a corporate organisation that insists on uniforms in the workplace!
.
Q: What is your personal opinion about school uniforms?
What is your personal opinion about school uniforms? Please post any of your thoughts/opinions about school uniforms and provide any facts/links as well. Thank you for your time.
A: This is just my personal opinion, but I think that school uniforms are a great idea and resource for schools because it sort of levels the social playing field. Girls especially are so concerned with what everyone is wearing and when everyone is wearing the same uniform then there is not as much competition to fit in. I have 2 nieces who wear uniforms to school and they LOVE it. They don't have to worry about what to wear to school, and they don't have to save all of their allowance to keep up with the styles of the wealthier kids at school. My oldest niece has done so much better in school because she isn't as caught up in social drama propelled by clothing. She has also excelled in her art and writing classes because she doesn't use her clothing as an outlet for self-expression so she does it through her art work. i do however think that if a school is planning on turning to uniforms that they need to be more relaxed on things like hair styles and make-up. That way students cn have a sence of personal style.
Q: Where can I find quality school uniforms to buy online?
My children are in school uniforms this year and I am looking for a website to buy quality and stylish uniforms, sweaters etc. Our colors are khaki, navy blue, and red and we can wear anything these colors. Please let me know some great cute websites to find some fall/winter clothes.
A: e-bay baby e-bay
Q: How and why are school uniforms important?
What are some ways that uniforms in school positivly affect the student body?
A: -No worries about tomorrow's clothes.
-School administration doesn't have to make a novel-sized list of dress code.
-Segregation is lowered (name brands don't really matter other than shoes, jewelry, and bags)
-The student body looks cleaner.
-You'll appreciate it when you get to wear your own clothes on a daily basis.
Q: How to get the school district to make school uniforms mandatory?
Every parent I talk to would rather have uniforms than "street clothes" but how do we get other school district to agree & make it happen? Go to the PTA? Petition the school board
A: Start with your local school and contact the principal. He can send a survey home to the parents and if more than 65% agree, the school can considering trying it out. Once you can prove what a great benefit it is, you can lobby the district to implement it districtwide. This is a very divisive issue and you will get a lot of negative views. It can be done. Do a search on the internet for districts who do have a districtwide policy and contact them about how it got implemented.
Q: Where do I get school uniforms all year round?
My daughter is starting at a new school on Monday and she has to wear a uniform. She's 4. I know that at the beginning of the school year places like Target and Wal-Mart sell uniforms but where can I get them at any time of the year? I found a couple places on-line but I don't have enough time to wait for shipping.
A: If it is a simple uniform try Gap, they carry Khaki pants and oxford shirts pretty much all year round.
Q: What do you guys think of school uniforms?
My school district has implemented school uniforms for students ranging from Pre-K to 8th grade. They also want to imply them for high schoolers, but that remains to be seen. What do you guys think? Will they have positive or negative results?
I am looking for some negative views on school uniforms plz.
A: If they make the girls dress up like Japanesse school girls, then it's a DEFINITE positive.
Q: What is someones opinion on school uniforms?
I'm doing a debate on school uniforms and unfortunately I have to go against them which sucks because it is hard to find evidence on how they are bad. Anyone have any suggestions?
A: ... I am a teacher in a school that mandates uniforms... I also have 4 kids... I am sick of the smae yadda, yadda, yadda, BS answers...
here are the REAL problems
1) the do NOT protect students from intruders: uniforms can be bought at ANY store (guaranteed by anti-monopoly laws) so any Tom, Dick or Harry can buy them. Since ANYONE can buy a uniform and people ASSUME that isn’t the case, it makes it easier for strangers to sneak onto school campuses.
2) they do NOT make students safer: when a student is doing something dangerous or in violation of school rules/safety measures it is harder to distinguish individuals in a crowd of uniforms than in a crowd of free dress style clothing. As uniforms imply... they are uniform... they all look the same... so if you see one person attack another, by the time duty teachers get there the attacker can be gone and hiding in the crowd.... so uniforms facilitate breaking safety rules
3) they do NOT improve appearance more than a strict dress code would, NOR do they reduce distractions in class due to appearance: most districts in our state that have gone to uniforms do so for appearance. However, uniform pants can sag, shorts can be too short, & shirts too tight. If student dress codes were enforced for regular clothing, uniforms would not be needed to deal (ineffectiv4ely) with these.
4) uniforms negatively affect the Self esteem of students that are shorter, taller, skinnier, or fatter than most of their peers: uniforms are uniform. They are not designed to accommodate multiple sizes and shapes. Therefore, most are cut to fit the majority (average) of the population and the others look poorly dressed in them.
5) uniforms do NOT eliminate the discrepancies between the haves & have nots as proponents would have you think: the haves still have more expensive shoes, socks, book bags, jewelry, etc and the have nots now have TWO wardrobes to buy for: school & home.
Dont just take my opinions... read for yourself!
Q: what evidence or proof is there that SCHOOL UNIFORMS work in decreasing behavioral/disciplinary issues and in?
This is for a research paper and I'm arguing FOR school uniforms. Can you help me find some evidence or polls or something that says that uniforms actually DO make the school better?
Thanks so much and GOD BLESS YOU!
A: There isn't any-unless you make it ip.
Uniform advocates rely on perceptions-not statistics-to support their arguments. There are no scientific studies that show uniforms improve a student's behavior, or their ability to learn. In fact the opposite is true. Uniform schools rank at the bottom academically, and actually have more disciplinary problems than those who don't.
Rules that serve no meaningful purpose represent abuse of authority, and are a betrayal of the trust our children have put in us.
Q: What are the negatives of having school uniforms?
its for a project for school and my group has to do the "cons" of having school uniforms. can u think of any? thanx
A: Many educators and sociology experts believe that requiring children to wear standardized uniforms stifles their self-expression. Self-expression is an important part of child development and some experts believe that curbing it with uniforms can be detrimental to a child. Experts also believe that students who are forced to wear uniforms will only find other, less appropriate ways to express themselves, possibly through inappropriate use of makeup and jewelry.
[edit]Individuality
Some experts believe that public education attempts to strip children of their individuality. They believe that public education does not meet the needs of children who do not fall in the norm, and that uniforms attempt to force every student into one mold. They see standard dress as another way for public educators to remove student individuality where they should be embracing and celebrating diversity. Some experts believe it is not in the best interest of the child to try to control socialization which is a part of human nature. They believe that such use of school uniforms does not prepare children for the real world, in which they will continue to be judged by appearances.
[edit]Cost
There are just as many experts who believe that the cost of school uniforms is a negative factor as those who see it as a positive factor. Some experts believe that it increases the amount of clothing parents will have to buy for their children because the children will still want and need clothing for the hours they are not in school. Uniforms can be more expensive for a family who buys from second-hand stores or who relies on hand-me-down clothing from friends and family. Some experts believe cost is a negative aspect of school uniforms because there is no use for them outside of school.
[edit]Comfort
Critics argue that different types of clothing feel comfortable to different people. Some children are more comfortable in a specific material or style of clothing. Uniforms reduce one’s ability to choose clothing that fits individual comfort needs. Experts believe that children need to feel comfortable in order to maximize learning, and that uniforms can therefore deter academic success.
[edit]Pros are not Pros
Many educators and experts believe that, although in theory uniforms should improve academic, behavioral, and social outcomes, in reality they do not. These experts argue that the studies of schools who initiate uniforms do not report improvement in any of these areas; therefore, if the desired outcomes are not reached, there is no valid reason to standardize student dress.
Q: Parents do you prefer for your kids to wear school uniforms or regular street clothes?
With fashion becoming such a big issue at school & with our kids these days, I think that school uniforms are sounding better & better. How would you feel if uniforms became mandatory for all schools? Do you like or dislike the idea & why?
.
A: Ok, I'm coming at this as a parent and a teacher in a school which had uniforms last year and doesn't have them this year. I also wrote a huge paper on this in college. I believe in uniforms because it makes it easy to get dressed for school. Also, students don't have to worry about not having the money to buy the expensive clothes and look like a fashion plate because everyone is wearing the same thing. As a parent, I would love to not have to worry about buying anything but a few sets of uniforms. I'm sure my 15 year old would hate it, but I wouldn't expect a big fuss from my 5 year old. Also, if it is done across the district, it wouldn't be a big issue because they students would start out in Kindergarten wearing a uniform and wouldn't know anything else. I support it as an educator and as a parent.
Q: Any students out there who think school uniforms are a good idea?
I personally do, because I find it's only the personality that matters. What people wear in school also stops some students from associating with others. I have friends of all different "types"(pretty much, just what they wear), so I just try to dress wearing plain clothes so I'm not judged so much by what I wear. Ya, so what do you think? As long as the uniforms are comfortable hehe.
A: I'm not in high school anymore, but when I was I went to a private school that did not have uniforms. In my senior year, the question of whether or not kids should wear uniforms came up, I was one of the few students that I knew who said "yes." I agree that it eliminates judging each other based on clothing, or feeling peer pressure to have certain clothing items in order to fit in. You wouldn't spend extra time and money on clothes either. I also argue that putting on a uniform to do anything fosters more of a sense of responsibility about whatever it is that you are doing.
Individuality is important too, but individuality comes through in other ways besides just clothing. One of my friends attended a school where they had a few options to choose from for uniform (i.e. a couple of different tops and bottoms) and that seemed like a good idea.
