Q: Jane likes to keep her 6 school books in a neat row on her shelf. How many different ways can she line up her?
Jane likes to keep her 6 school books in a neat row on her shelf. How many different ways can she line up her 6 books?

A: This is a simple math problem. If she has 6 books, she can line them up in 720 ways. 6x5x4x3x2x1= 720. I know that that sounds like a really high number, but if you think about it, it's not. See, the first book can be any of the six. The second book can be one of the five books left after choosing the first one. On the third book, there are four books left. Then so on... If it doesn't make any sense, just trust me.

Q: Where do I go to find home schooling books for high school?
I have a upcoming freshman and I can't find books anywhere I don't want anything religious we don't school like that. I do need something that will go up to 12 and she doesn't want to do the computer. We teach unorthodox school if anything it' involves more of the earth and such.

A: Check out Butch's Secular Curriculum list - http://intothesunrise.blogspot.com/2006/03/secular-curriculum-suppliers.html Singapore Math has Math, Science and Language Arts texts. You can try Oak Meadow, Calvert and K12.com if your looking for a 'boxed', all-one-supplier approach. Otherwise a couple of weeks spent looking at different supliers with your child might turn up some different currriculum that looks intereting to the both of you.

Q: What is the best website to buy used school books for cheap?
I need an english and history book. Please let me know the best websites to buy some used school books. For High school JR. Thanks

A: I find that amazon is surprisingly cheap when it comes to buying used textbooks. All you have to do is type in the information on the book and then choose the option t buy it used. When you buy it off their site used, you are directly buying it from the seller. A lot of people try to compete with prices so you find that this makes the books alot cheaper.

Q: Why do they have high school books at middle school?
I would like to know what books are appropriate for a middle schooler because many books at the middle school library are at high school level and aren't very appropriate. I mean, I can handle a lot, but some books are ones that I'd rather wait reading.

A: 1. Middle schools usually have high school classes 2. Many middle schoolers can handle high school level books 3. WHY NOT?

Q: How can I organise my school books, revision guides, exam timetables and many sheets of paper in my room?
I have so many school books, revision guides, mind-maps, timetables, letters, textbooks, blah blah blah...in my room for school, and with exam time coming up in the summer (and some very soon), I need to keep everything more organised. How can I organise all my school books/papers/I wont say the list again in a sensible way?

A: What I did to organize was keep several binders, label your subjects on them, then put tabs in them label the tabs "homework" "projects" "tests" "notes" and "misc." Then, if you have a bookshelf, put your textbooks in them alphabetically (don't forget to write your name and number in them!) As for lightening up on paper load, ask your teachers about assignments you can get rid of, I did this and I got rid of POUNDS of paper. As for timetables and graphs, charts, tables for miscellaneous. Keep them in droors or hang them on your wall near your desk, in this way, you can view them at all times. Should you have an excess of paper left, well, you may wish to ask your parents about a small file cabinet, if you need this, get some folders and label them with your subjects. Fo supplies, organize them in your desk so that they are seperated, (pencils in one place, pens in another etc etc.) As for exams, I strongly encourage yet another binder that has tabs for each subject. Label that binder "Important Exam Notes" make sure the papers you put in here are of value so you don't waste space or your time. Finally, try taking a day of just cleaning, get rid of old, broken supplies, papers and other junk you don't need, but make sure you look through everything before you throw it away. Best of Luck!

Q: What to do with past years school books?
My daughter is in year 2 in primary school, at the end of the school year she comes home with all her school books and craft she did that year. There is so much but I would like to keep something, especially from kindergarten year. Any suggestions? Thank you! ; )

A: I keep some things, mostly art work and crafts made in school, or any stories my kids wrote. The rest I throw away. I feel guilty throwing the stuff away, but they will come home with so much stuff it is impossible to keep it all.

Q: What is the difference between a hornbook, commercial outline, and prof. required books in law school?
I am starting law school in August and reading a "so you're going law school book." They talk about hornbooks, commercial outlines, and req. books from your prof. Is the required book the hornbook? Or is the hornbook a bound book of an outline? Or am I missing something? So, if anyone knows what all these different books are, what I need, or anything I'm missing I would appreciate it.

A: A hornbook is a treatise that an expert in a particular field writes on that area of law. It has a lot of black letter law (a term you will soon become familiar with--it means the law that is written in statutes, etc.). An outline is a summary of the law that you will need to know for law school finals. Professors tend to make the law very difficult to understand (a lot of hide the ball type of stuff) and the outlines tend to help simplify things. (By the way, Glannon's Answers and Explanations for Civil Procedure is extremely helpful...consider buying it even if you don't buy any other commercial outlines) A required book can be any book that the professor requires that you read. It can be a case law textbook (which is most common), a hornbook, a commercial outline, or even a regular reading book. Case law textbooks, by the way, present the law by providing cases that examined aspects of the law. In the end, exactly what you will need to read and to learn will depend on your professor. My suggestion is to learn the basic black letter law and then, once you've got that down, begin dealing with theory. Also, look at old class outlines (they will undoubtedly be available somewhere) and old tests. And, go to the BarBri review lectures! You'd be amazed how much law you will learn from those lectures. Good luck with law school.

Q: Are there any tote bags big enough to fit school books in anywhere?
I would really like to carry a tote bag around school but I can't find any tote bags that look like they are big enough to fit your school books in and still be able to fit around your shoulders. I would like to get a tote bag from Aeropostale, Abercrombie, Hollister, or American Eagle. Can you give me a link to a good one? Thanks a bunch.

Q: How to get organised with school books without having contsantly tidy it up?
i am soo annoyed with this stupid school onest its like so messy having a huuge hevy bag filled with messy sheets and paper and books flying everywhere.

A: Since you seem to be bored with getting them orghanized, make it fun. Get a couple of friends of yours to all organize them . Then once you all finish treat them with maybe a trip to the local ice cream shop or some other treat. Then tell them to hold you responsible for keeping it organzed, and you can have fun with it.

Q: Anyone knows a good website to sell your high school books?
I just finished high school and i need to sell my books each of them cost me about $ 50 to more ( since they were all new) I even have workbooks i didn't use at all Anyone knows a website that will buy them back from me?

A: I've always sold my college books on Half.com (http://www.half.com) or Amazon Marketplace (http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=1161232). If they're specifically home school books you might have a hard time selling them there though. I have old Bob Jones text books that aren't in the half.com or Amazon database. In that case you might want to try Ebay (http://www.ebay.com). I've also heard good things about VegSource (http://www.vegsource.com/homeschool/) though I've never used it personally.

They will be about $1000. Thanks! By the way, I'm a very very good student and I promise to dedicate my first book to you.

Q: Why are college school books so exspensive?
My wife is going to a university and her school books cost 600+.. Why are school books so exspensive?

A: A lot of research and time goes into college texts. Sometimes, it can take experts years to produce a book. Further, they sell in much lower volumes than mainstream books. So, an author can crank out a novel pretty quickly, and sell boatloads of them to many different age/demographic groups, whereas text book authors sell fewer and take longer to write... in order for anyone to make up the effort of a text book, they simply must charge more for it.
