Q: How do you handle the weekend, do you keep your kids on a school schedule or let them blow it off?
I'm new to this whole school thing, my 5 year old just started kindergarten. I have her on a strict school schedule but as the weekend nears I am wondering if I should keep her on it or if I should let her enjoy the weekend and stay up late and sleep in late. Some advice from some more seasoned parents would be appreciated, thanks!

A: I let my son sleep in and stay up a little bit later on the weekends when he was that age. Also, he generally would have more activities (visiting family, going out, etc) on Friday and Saturday eves than he would during the school week. I've always made sure he gets a good amount of sleep all week, and I think it's paid off. You can tell which kids don't get enough sleep. My son always works very hard at school, so I figure he needs downtime on the weekend and the rules relaxed a bit.

Q: What is it like having a school schedule where you have all of the classes in one day? 10 points?
I have always had a block schedule(where each class is 2 hours and its three classes a day and then different ones the next). I just switched into a new high school this year so I was wondering if you get enough time for homework and if its easier than block schedule. thank you =)

A: I only have block schedule for my connections (PE and Business Ed) then I have my regular 5 other classes. Without block its pretty great, because... a) Shorter classes! Yay! :D (Mines are about 55 mins each and my connections are around 1 hour and 10 minutes) b) You get to see your friends in the classes everyday rather then every other day or w/e you had in your block schedule. =] c) The day goes by pretty fast. =]

Q: What is the best way to do an Uberman sleep schedule with school?
I really want to try polyphasic sleeping and have looked at a 6 or 4 period sleep schedule, but I am also in high school. School time is from 7:20 AM to 2:20 PM, with a 40 minute lunch break at noon. I don't usually eat lunch, so I could definately do a nap time then. Anyone have any ideas for a schedule?

A: Try asking one of the polyphasic bloggers listed here. http://polyphasic.dyndns.org/ Some of them are students too.

A: start tonight, i have the same problem but my school starts in a week, say youll go to sleep at 10 and wake up at 7 or mabey at six, you need 8-9 hours to be healthy, and dont change the schedule so your body will adjust and youll feel fresh

Q: How do I get back on schedule for school?
Since schools starting, i need a good schedule. I leave for school at 8, and comeback around 3. I'm in high school, and I'm not currently participating in any sports. Could someone make me a schedule, with Homework, cleaning my room, computer time and a new bedtime, (so i'm not stressed about getting up) THANKS<3! Best schedule gets 10 points!

A: School Schedule: 6:55 Wake up, say a short prayer of gratitude for what's great in life 7:00 Get yourself ready (shower, wash, clean, make up, etc.) 7:20 Get dressed, get school bag ready, quickly make bed 7:30 Eat a good breakfast, say "hi" to family members and converse 7:50 Get yourself ready mentally for school (visualize your day) 8:00 Leave for school 3:00 Eat a healthy snack, put away your book bag 3:10 Computer time, talk with friends 4:00 Watch a little TV, relax 5:00 Clean room a bit, or help family with dinner or other chores 5:20 Get a jump start on your homework, just start a little, prepare 6:00 Dinner 7:00 Homework time - get it all done, and do it well 8:00 Free time (if all homework is done - family time, computer, TV) 9:30 Start thinking about next day - plan out your wardrobe 10:00 Shower (if did not shower in morning), pamper yourself time 10:30 Get ready for bed (pajamas), brush teeth, etc. 10:45 Visualize your dreams and goals, and for the next day 11:00 Sleep Note - If you can, I'd recommend joining a sport to keep active and get exercise. Have a great school year!

Q: How does an 8 day school schedule work?
Our school just adopted an 8 day school schedule and I am soooo confused by it and theres nothing on the web about please help me!!!! school starts in 2 days ps. here is our schools schedule if you want to take a look http://www.westkings.ednet.ns.ca/web_files/documents/eight_timetable.pdf

A: It can be pretty confusing, but it helps, so you don't miss any classes due to holidays, long weekends, etc. When you start school, (Tuesday?), it will be Day 1, the next day, Day 2. This will continue until you hit the weekend. On Monday, the schedule will resume as it was before. It can be confusing, seeing as Monday isn't always Day 1, it's in constant rotation, but you'll get a hang of it! =)

Q: When will I get my Middle School schedule?
I'll will go to middle school next year (for 7th grade) and I just move. I wonder, should I go back to my school and tell them to change my address? (on what day should I go now or wait until August?) and when are they gonna send the schedule (of what period & class I will go to) to me? I really need an answer.

A: When I went to school they gave out the schedules the first day of class. You should call the school and make sure your address is correct and ask when they send/give out schedules. Some school offices aren't open til August or the month before school starts. You need to call and find out this information. You could search for your school district online and go through their website. It is usually listed on there when they are open and when schedules will be available.

Q: What should I do if I lost my schedule before school starts?
I lost my schedule on the orientation day, before school starts. (It has my locker combination as well) What should I do?

A: NO NEED TO PANIC Just talk to your councelor, she will give you another one, it might cost you a dollar for the "printing cost", and about the locker combination, just request another locker while youre at the councelors office. They should be able to help you on monday, just get there early.

Q: how do I get back on a sleep schedule before school starts?
So this summer i have been going to sleep around 2 am and waking up at noon. So School Starts September 2nd and i want to know how to get ready. I have to wake up early when school starts how do i get back on a sleep schedule. BTW i am going to 10th grade.

A: It's all about the class of 2011!!! I suggest you go to sleep at around 2am and set an alarm clock so you can wake up at the right time to get to school on time. By you going to sleep late and waking up early, you will end up going to bed earlier because you will be to tired from not getting enough sleep. In about 4 days you should be right back to the normal school schedule.

Q: how does the leadership class and AP classes happen in a block schedule high school?
my school is going on block schedule and for some reason they can't figure out where to put the leadrship class or wether it should be all year round... same with the AP classes... how do these work?

A: Well, I am on the block and I teach AP. We have the course for a semester which is equal to one year on regular schedule. We have it first semester, to ensure that we get through all the material before the test, which is in the Spring. I hold refresher meetings on volunteer basis about once a week for a month before the exams. Scores, on average have been very good on this system.

Q: What is the best school schedule?
I'm writing my own plan for a school district. I would like opinions from parents, teachers, and students. What kind of scheduling (in your opinion) is best for elementary, middle and high school? Do you like block scheduling or not? Why or why not? What do you like about the scheduling in your school and what would you change? Thanks.

A: In high school, I experience both block and regular scheduling; I prefer block scheduling hands down. Not only can you get more information into one sessions, allowing the teacher to have more elaborate presentations, but it also gives the student an extra day to get homework done. It is also beneficial because it helps prep those who plan on attending college (in terms of the schedule). Another thing you want to take into consideration is start times. I remember hearing in one of my Education classes that your brain operates at better times, depending on your age (elem. vs HS) From a teacher aspect, when I worked with kindergarten, I prefer to have the itinerant class in the afternoon because the students have the best attention in the morning and we were able to get more down. It seemed that once they had lunch and playtime they were done for the day. I hope this helps!

Q: I want to change my school schedule but i don't think they would let me?
I need an excuse to change my lunch schedule. I have 1st lunch and i hate it, its too full and all my friends are in 2nd lunch. I want to switch so bad so I can be happy and feel better. This is the first high school week. The announcer call seniors and junior(which is me) tomorrow. They said for the students who has the wrong classes and who already taken this class. And all i want to do is change my advance trigonometry class to honor us history to 5th period. Would they let me?

A: pshh, so i have no classes with my bestie. it's life who cares... :D && youuur older than mee!

Q: when will you get a midle school schedule?
my kid is going to middle scholl in 3 weeks, when will we get the schedule of classes?will they mail it or give it out at the first day of school?if they DO give it out at the first day of school, where and when will they give it out? if they do get it on the first day of school, where in the office or something

A: They'll most likely mail it to you. That's how it is with 99% of schools. I don't usually get my schedules until about a week before it starts.

Q: What is good about year-round school schedule?
Im doing an editorial and i need good thngs about the year round school schedule

A: I never had year round school until college, but that was voluntary. IMHO, keeping classes going constantly allows for the education to keep going forward. With the traditional summer break, classes tended to drag down at the end of the year because no one wanted to start something new that they might not finish. Then the kids would forget half of what they learned over the summer, so the first few weeks of the next year would be wasted in reviews. Plus, frankly, summer break bored me to death :) By the end of the first month, I was ready to go back just for something to do. Although, being a wimp, I wouldn't have wanted to go year-round in my schools. We didn't have air conditioning, and summer would have been terrible.
