Q: How is the teaching in Irish Primary schools different from UK Primary schools?
I've done a PGCE in London and I hope to return to Ireland next year to teach. I was wondering how the primary ed system is different. I know that Irish is the main language, and children have to buy books, bring lunch - I'm Irish myself so I went to school in Ireland. Are there major differences in the teaching methods? Is the standard a lot higher in primary schools in Ireland than in UK? Thanks.
A: There is a different curriculum structure then in England but most of it is similar...the change in curriculum does mean that some of the emphashis is different.
However from what i know the teaching is pretty much the same-in the classroom with teachers and assistants! However you could always contact some schools in Ireland on the web and ask for more information-maybe you can visit them?
Q: Do many primary schools in the UK hire music specialists to teach music?
I am an elementary music teacher in the US and am hoping to relocate to the UK for a few years. I understand that teachers are in demand in the UK, but I am having a hard time finding evidence of schools hiring music specialists in primary schools. I have noticed that some schools hired a music coordinator, so perhaps that could be a possibility. Please share any (serious) advice on how I might increase my chances of finding a primary music position. Thank you.
A: No not as a rule in the state system. Try private (they call them public - just to confuse you!) Have a look at ads, Times Educational Supplement (TES) www.tes.co.uk Might help
Q: Does anyone know a website to compare primary schools in Melbourne?
Help! My sons starts primary school next year and I need to enrol him. As I did my schooling in NZ I dont know how it really works here, or the good schools from the bad etc. Is there a website that I can compare the local schools (I live in Darebin) instead of trying to get time off work to trudge around? I dont know many people in my area to ask local school advise. Any help would be grateful. Thx!
A: Unless its private schooling, you will have to send you son to the nearest school to you.. Its like if you live withinn a certain amount of kilometers.. Unless of course, you travel far for work then you can also put him in a school that is closer to your work..
The other thing is, talking to locals people who have kids about what school is best in and around your area..
Q: What are the pros and cons of same-age stepbrothers attending different primary schools?
My three-yr-old son lives in amicable shared custody, and his dad's new wife has a son the same age, so in a way they are a bit like brothers. She, the new wife, wants both boys to attend a primary school that is a bit too far away for me. She's a bit of a bully about it. I would much prefer that my son go to the school just over the road from my house. It's a nice school.
I also think there are advantages to siblings going to different schools - they won't be competing against each other, they get to develop as individuals, they aren't arguing with the same friends, they can each shine without comparison to the other.
What do you think is better - same school, or different school?
Thanks for your advice.
A: Do some research on the schools and decide which is the best. As a mother I would stand up for myself and do what I wanted. My daughter and my step-daughters all went to the same school with no problems, they protected each other but they are a lot older.
Q: How do you find the best primary schools in UK?
I have got two primary school age kids. We migrated to UK recently and would like to find the best schools here. Could anybody help please?
A: Re-migrate to Queensland, Australia!
Q: Is there anyone knows about the primary schools in Australia?
I am moving to Sydney with my family, I want to know the information of the primary schools in Sydney in details for my daugther aged 10, For example, which primary school is the famous school in sydney? Your answer will be greatly appreciated.
A: Religious run schools are pretty good anywhere, but also the State (Government) schools are very good also. With both it all depends on the area you choose to live in. If the area you live in is bad, the students and therefore the school will tend to be not as good, parent involvement is very important in how good or bad a school will be. As for famous or private schools these tend to only come onto play when your child enters Yr7. About 13 yrs.
This link should help with religious schools. They do usually accept students from non or other religious backgrounds normally.

Q: How important is CHESS as learning tool in Primary Schools?
Taleigao Chess Academy's primary aim is to bring
CHESS in Primary School Education
in Goa/India.
In this reagrd we are doing many activities. our website www.goachess.info.
In January 2008 we are planning to publish a Souvenir where in we want to highlight
importance of Chess as learning tool.
If you wish to contribute your efforts
in any best way, please write to us.
A: Chess is a very important skill to learn at an early age. I started to play when i was 5 years old. Basically it teaches you skills on concentration, sharpens the mind because of the thousands and thousands of different moves that can be made. Most importantly it creates an analytical way of thought which is very important for younger people to learn for as you will use this in very important decision making throwout life.
Q: What are the best Catholic primary schools in Perth?
My husband and I are moving to Perth in January. We'd like to enroll our boys (ages 8 & 6) in a Catholic primary school. We'd appreciate any recommendations. We are hoping to live in South Perth or the inner southern suburbs. Thanks.
A: Here is a search engine to find any Catholic school in Western Australia including Perth and its suburbs: http://web4.ceo.wa.edu.au/school_search.asp
With love in Christ.
Q: What do you think about Gay orientated story books for primary schools ?
I am in no way homophobic and have two children at primary school and think this it totally inappropriate. It should not be thrust on children this young in my opinion. Let them be kids for christ sake.
A: I don't think its right. I will probably get hundreds of thumbs down now but hey.
If they feel they have to do anything like this, I think at most they should teach kids in sex education that lesbian and gay relationships are just as valid these days as hetero ones. Basically EDUCATE them on the reality of it.
Although at LEAST wait until they are of a decent age to understand what all of this is about (say pre-teens/teenage). Who is thinking about relationships at age 5 for God's sake?!
To tell them stories like 'The King and the King' and other such things is just plain wrong IMHO.
Q: when will the fall semester begin for Belgian primary schools?
I will move to Brussels, Belgium in two weeks with my family. I have an 8-year-old son who will go to primary school in Brussels. I wonder when they start the fall semester? How can I find my son a nice local school?
A: I think you will find depending on whether private or public, that the actual "date" for starting will vary, but typically first week in September is standard.
Q: Can primary schools legally keep children behind after school in detention?
My son is 8 years old and his primary school is developing new policies that have been sent home for parents to comment on. These include giving after school detentions as a consequence for bad behaviour. Thje policy stated that even if a parent does not agree with this then it is not a reason for a child to attend
A: Hello,
Schools can legally hold pupils for various lenghs :
- 10 minutes, with no consent (last minute decision)
- Lunchtime detention (no consent)
After School : First and Middle schools MUST have consent
from parents legally and provide the minimum
of so many hours notice, and receive a
go-ahead confirmation from parents.
If the student was in year 11, 12, or 13 at a high school, I think it is their responsiblity as the pupil, to inform parents.
The teacher(s) can NOT contribute any physical actions to prevent the child from leaving, Unless they are putting themselves into Danger.
Answer : The School Must inform you and have your
Permission, Do not let them tell you otherwise.
Q: My daughter is 2 yrs and 7 months old, when do I have to register her name for Primary schools in London?
What are the best primary schools in north london (barnet and surrounding areas) ?
A: What you should do is look on the internet under the name of the borough Barnet comes under, you can check all the schools Ofsted reports which are a good indicator for you.
When you find a school you like the look of ring them and ask when you can put her name down for the nursery.
You cant actually put her name down for primary school until she is about 3 and a half. You get the form from the local education authority,
Q: How is long division taught in Spanish primary schools?
Our 10-year old English daughter is struggling with being taught long division in a Spanish primary school, using a method we cannot understand.
Does anyone know how they do it? Can you explain it?
thanks but her teacher says she has to use this method and show her working. I've found a post on a teaching forum that says they use Ruffini's rule.
All searches on this go on about polynomials and algebra. Clearly she is not being taught algebra. Any idea how this rule can be applied to SIMPLE long division?
A: Teach the way u understand...she will grasp the concept...then which ever method is used, she will be able to cope
