Q: Is there a law in Ohio Schools that states that you can't bring drinks into class?
Okay, so at my school they say there's a law that states you can't bring any types of drinks into class because of the risk of chemical reactions and what not. They claim that this law is called Jared's Law, which is actually a law against bullying in schools (which is a great law). So does this "no drink" law really exist and if so, what is it called?
A: You are discussing two different laws. Jared's law pertains to safety in schools and is a result of a court case where Jared's parents sued the school district when he was killed by a cafeteria table that collapsed on him. There are lots of provisions and schools must submit to including an annual safety audit, but I don't remember anything about bringing drinks to school. The school bullying law is not in Jared's, but another law. I am getting my principal's license and studying current case law.
Q: what are some good pre optometry schools in ohio?
I am looking at schools to apply for for next year. I am planning in going into the field of optometry, so i was wondering which schools in ohio offered pre optometry courses.
A: Almost every college will have the courses that you need to fulfill the pre-optometry requirements (also known as pre-reqs for optometry school). There are only 17 optometry schools in the country and is competitive to get into one. There is only one school in Ohio and it's Ohio State. If you are a resident in ohio, I would suggest attending ohio state for undergrad and find out if there are programs that guarantee you a seat in optometry school. And if you are a resident, state schools usually have lower requirements for their residents and/or they have a certain amount of the incoming class reserved for in-state students.I hope that this has helped.

Q: What are some of the schools in Ohio that offer a Pre-Med program?
Does anyone know of any schools beside Case Western Reserve University and Ohio State that have Pre-Med programs? I've been out of luck when trying to find some. I plan on applying to a school that has Pre-Med this year and being enrolled in that program. I'm already going to apply to Case and probably Ohio State but, I'd like to have a few backups. I think B-W has a Pre-Med program, is that correct? Thanks in advance for the help!
A: There is no such thing as a "pre-med major." Pre-med is not something you major in, rather it is a series of courses you must take in order to be eligible to apply to medical school. You can actually be major in anything, and be "pre-med" at most colleges. But, if you hope to attend med school in the future, it is always a good idea to look for colleges that have strong science programs and good advising for students who hope to go on to medical school. Again, however, you can find that at many schools.
Since you can be "pre-med" at any number of places, I would suggest that you start by considering what other characteristics you would like in a potential college. OSU is the largest university in the country, with over 50,000 students, so it may not be the best choice if you are looking for a more personal relationship with your teachers and smaller classes. Case Western is an academically rigorous school, which is always a plus in terms of preparing you for med school, but some students do not like its more urban feel and are looking for a more active social scene.
Some questions to ask yourself about what you are looking for in a college include: Size (big like OSU? Medium-sized like Case? Smaller like Kenyon?), location (urban? suburban? rural?), campus culture (frats or no frats? party scene or more sedate?). If you need financial help to attend college, you should also do some research both on the published costs to attend different schools, and the type of financial aid each school typically gives (sometimes a private school can work out to be a better deal, than a public university once financial aid packages are compared)
Some other schools in Ohio that have strong science programs and solid advising for students interested in going on to medical school would include: Kenyon College, Miami University, the College of Wooster, Ohio University, Denison, Wittenberg, and Otterbein. In addition, just over the state line from Ohio on either side are two EXCELLENT small schools for students who hope to go on to medical school: Earlham College in Indiana and Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. Both have terrific pre-med advising, strong science programs, and very good track records with getting students into medical school. But, there are many other great colleges across the country as well, so don't limit yourself, unless you feel you absolutely must stay within a certain distance from home.
Good luck!

Q: Do you need a license to teach in Ohio charter schools?
My wife has a job interview coming up for a charter school...even though she has had her degree in education for some time, she still hasn't passed the Praxis PLT test which is the last hurdle she needs to get over to get her Ohio Teaching License.....is there any chance she could still get this job without having a license, or is it most likely not going to happen?
A: Go to the state website for teaching. Most schools need "Highly Qualified Teachers" thanks to NCLB. Here is the link for teaching in Ohio.

Quite a few years ago I read that corporal punishment was still allowed in Ohio schools.
A: don't know but it is legal in alabama, just ask my 13 year old (smile)
Q: How many schools in Ohio need art teachers?
I want to do something in art and I thought about being an art teacher. How many schools actually use them?
A: Here is one- http://www.ohreap.net/jobsrchDistrict.php?district=482720000
That is great!
Art teaching jobs are not as plentiful as science, math, or coaching jobs. Many schools use them in middle and high schools , some in elementary.Art teachers usually stay a long time in a district.
Check out the ohio art education association to get more familiar with what art teachers do. Also look into the art education department at the closest university.

Q: Are Ohio schools exempt from getting local zoning permits for structures?
Schools are required to get State Permits for any structures, plumbing, electrical, etc. But it has been stated that they are exempt from obtaining local zoning permits. Is this correct? Is there a state law concerning this?
A: The state of Ohio is a city ruled state. Which means if there isn't a state law on the subject the city can do as they please.
