I'm from the Philippines and I want to study in NY. I wanna know what are the good schools there and how i can have a scholarship. :) any help?

A: Columbia, and if you can't get in, there's always Syracuse, it's a diploma mill, they accept just about everyone who can afford the tuition.

Q: Where can I get information regarding public high schools at Queens NY?
I am a new immigrant at USA. I want to start my study in a new school at Queens NY. Where can I get the list and web address of top public high schools there? I have completed 10th grade. Can I start from 11th grade here? What is the admission procedure at public schools for new immigrants?

A: Queens is one of the five boroughs of NYC. All the. public schools in NYC are supervised by the NYC Department of Education. Go to the closest high school together with your parent or guardian. Bring with you whatever papers you have from your other school. They will need proof about the subjects that you have taken or passed. You will be sent to the nearest school and will not be able to choose schools unless you qualify for a special school. You will be placed in the grade where you belong based on the subjects that you have taken and the subjects that you still need. You may be able, if you ask about it, to receive credit for a foreign language if you came from a country that does not have English as a first language. Go to school as soon as you can. You are missing work that may be difficult to make up. Do not be disappointed if it takes some time to place you in an appropriate school and in the correct classes. Good luck.

A: A. 9491--the NYC Dignity in All Schools Act (DASA), I think. http://www.pubadvocate.nyc.gov/policy/documents/ConflictResolutionReport.pdf http://www.stonewalldemocratsnyc.org/State%20Assembly%20Questionaire.pdf http://www.glsen.org/cgi-bin/iowa/student/news/record/1716.html

Q: when does one carry in schools NY HIGH HEELS, and how high? WOULD YOU GO with 12 HIGH HEELS TO THAT?
when does one carry in schools NY HIGH HEELS, and how high?

A: Your question makes NO sense what so ever. But if you're asking "Do people wear high heels in school, and how high?" then the answer is; Yes. High heels, in HIGH SCHOOL are fine, and nothing for than 3 inches. And NO stilettos, or else you just look tacky.

Q: What is the route for someone with a Philosophy BA to be a librarian in NY public schools?
What library science programs are available in NYC and what are the degree requirement for public schools? If you don't know, please don't leave stupid replies. : )

A: More than likely to be a librarian anywhere in the US, and to work in educational field anywhere in the US, you will need a master's degree, and in this case, a master's in library science. I doubt you could get a job shelving books without it anymore.

Q: What are my chances of getting into the following NY schools?
Information: GPA - 87.6 Extra-curricular activities/clubs: 7 **President of two extra-curricular activities Sports: 2(Winter and Spring track) SAT(didn't do well at all): Math: 620 Writing: 550 Reading: 510 Job: Yes, part-time job. *I have taken 2 AP classes during my junior year. What are my chances at the following schools: SUNY Binghamton SUNY Stony Brook Syracuse SUNY New Paltz SUNY Albany SUNY Buffalo SUNY Genesseo SUNY Oneonta NYU Cornell

A: I attended SUNY Albany and I had similar SAT scores and GPA as you. While they aren't great I think you balance it well with being an athlete and working, and taking AP courses. So, I would say you have a pretty good chance at getting accepted into it or any other SUNY school. Now, SUNY Binghamton and Stony Brook are the top two and it might be tougher. Albany and Buffalo follow, and then New Paltz, Genesseo and Oneonta. Your best strategy is to rank them from hardest to least hardest when applying simply because you know you'll get accepted somewhere. They usually send your application to your first choice if they deny you then the second and so on. As for Syracuse, NYU, and Cornell I'm not sure. All I can tell you is that Cornell is an IVY and they are very picky. But also, it is the toughest school to graduate from and the suicide rate is high... Your grades and SAT score might not help you at all.

Q: Is it legal for junior high schools in NY to suddenly add a mandatory after school program?
This program is mandatory, even if you have after schools you have signed up and payed for already. Do they really have a right to do this? This is happening in my little brother's junior high and he pleaded for me to help find the answer. It is mandatory no matter what your grades are. It is ~2 hours for 2 days each week. No if's, and's, or but's.

A: Well, what kind of program is it? And how long does it last? Like in terms of number of days as well as how many hours is actually is. And yes, it is completely legal. And if it's only for 30-60 minutes after school, that's nothing! Just show up late for your after school thing with the rest of the kids. And if it's an important program, like something on the subject of health, dating issues, abuse, etc, then tell your brother to suck it up and deal with it. Although it doesn't seem fair that they just spring this on you. It would have made a lot more sense to send out a letter in the summer, explaining it and whatnot.

Q: which is the best area to live in NY, and good high schools and middle schools. What is the rent?
I am thinking of moving to NY, and would like to know the safe neighboring schools, etc, or Connecticut.

A: According to test scores, the best schools in NYC are located in northeast Queens (Douglaston, Bayside, etc) followed by Staten Island's South Shore Tottenville, Prince's Bay, etc), and Riverdale. Isolated areas in Manhattan have some good schools also. As for rents in those areas, you would be hard pressed to find rentals in Douglaston, which is nearly all private homes. This is largely but not entirely true of Staten Island also. Bayside has rental apartments, as does Riverdale. Both tend to be expensive, but there are some relatively reasonable places to be found. Actually, the few on Staten Island would probably be the least expensive.

Q: Are there any schools to learn English in NY if you speak Japanese?
I'm having my Japanese girl friend come in to NY and she's trying to go to a school that teaches English. Are there any recommended schools that she might want to look into?

A: Check your local community college for "English as a Second Language" as a course title. The name might be slightly different in their course listings but the content is the same. The course code usually starts with ESL and ends with a number.

Q: What do u think about the no cellphone rule that they put on NY schools?

A: With all of the school shootings going on in our world now days I would NEVER send my son to school without a cell phone, even if they were banned at the school. Now do I think the students should be on their cell phones unless it is an emergency? Absolutely not. There is a time and a place for a person to be on the phone and school is certainly not one of them. But believe you me if you had a child in one of the situations that we've had here in Colorado you would be grateful that they had their phone that day so they could call for help or call and let you know they were alright.
