Q: Are there charter schools for homeschooling in North Carolina?
We are considering a move to North Carolina. We now live in Ohio and we use a charter school to homeschool our two children. We get the computer and books and they do all work at home at their own pace even though its considered public school. I was wondering if there is this type of public charter school in North Carolina? We are considering a move near Ashville. Any and all help with homeschooling experience in North Carolina is appreciated. I have already checked the laws on the web just looking for charter schools and experience answers. Thank you..

A: Not that I know of, but there is the online public school http://www.ncvps.org/.

Q: what state has the best public schools? How do the school rate in North and/or South Carolina shore areas?
Planning to move to possibly Little River, SC (just north of Myrtle Beach), or possible the southern coast of NC - I have a 4 year old and want to be sure the schools are at least "ok" before moving!

A: If you're thinking about moving to Charleston than I will say that the schools are somewhat good only because SOME students refuse to learn and rather do something else with their time in school. You can always enroll your child in that "No Child Left Behind" program if your neighborhood school recieves poor ratings. What NCLB does is transfer your child to a good school with good ratings. Here is a website about Charleston (South Carolina) County Schools: http://www.ccsdschools.com/

Q: Schools similar to North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics?
What are some schools similar to North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM)--not specifically the Science and Math part, but the fact that NCSSM is a public, residential high school. it is selective, but no tuition is necessary if chosen.---im looking for a school (boarding) that is choosing applicants not tuition

A: This is a very broad question for Y!A, however, you should contact your guidance counselor for support and assistance with this matter. You can also contact NCSSM directly, but if you feel you will have an issue getting into their program, consider having a faculty member write you a letter of recommendation. Good luck.

Q: When do North Carolina elementary schools start back after Summer break?
Hey I'm hopefully moving to NC as an elementary teacher this year. I just want to find out roughly when the schools start back after the Summer holidays? Is there a set date or does it vary by school? Any other related info would be great thanks!

A: It varies by county. (In North Carolina, the day-to-day operations of schools are run by county systems.) Check out the county school system that you're looking to move to. Generally, I'd say mid-August, except for year-round schools.

Q: How do we Save the music in North Sacramento Elementary Schools?

A: You didn't explain what the problem is. Is it due to lack of funding? Is it due to some "back to basics" approach to curriculum that the district is pushing? Is it that schools don't have time for extra-curricular activities because they have to prepare the students for state-wide academic testing? Is it the lack of instructors? Is it a lack of interest on the part of the students themselves? If it's funding, there are a number of ways to try to raise or save money: 1. Have a carnival/bake sale 2. Host a book faire (Scholastic books has a great fund-raising program) 3. Ask for volunteers to assist with activities that are sucking up all the current funds 4. Get the local Symphony involved in a fund-raiser 5. Make cd's or videos of elementary school children singing and sell to parents etc... And make sure to explain that all proceeds will go towards saving the music curriculum at your elementary schools. Don't forget to get the local P.T.A.'s involved, too!

Q: What are good medical schools in the north-east?
I am looking for medical schools right now and am looking for schools in the northeast. i have around a 3.5 gpa right now and am in 11th grade. Any answer will help. Thanks

A: Congratulations on knowing which path you want to take before you actually get into college. Being a well-rounded student in high school improves your chances of succeeding in college. The Medical School admissions team only look at your college coursework, so high school does not matter the least bit. These are some of the top medical schools in the nation, and they are in the northeast area. Brown University (Rhode Island), Columbia (New York), Cornell (New York), Dartmouth (New Hampshire), Harvard (Massachusetts), University of Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania), Yale (Connecticut) Boston University (Massachusetts) Hope I helped. :)

Q: From the 2008 Senior Bowl, how were the North and South divisions defined? What schools were North and South?
I don't understand where the division was. This is because the "North" team includes players from USC, Oklahoma State, UNLV, and North Carolina. States that are not in a North region when you consiter all of the US. Where exactly is the line drawn? And the "South" team included players from Iowa State and Appalachian State. So why is UNC on the North team and Appalachian State on the South? And how can Iowa be in the North and Iowa State in the south? Its confusing!!?!

A: i agree, that was very confusing the crew for setting this up is stupid
