Q: Which of these Massachusetts schools is cheapest for dorms?
I am currently a Criminal Justice major at Massbay Community College, and I'm going to transfer in about a year, or perhaps the semester after that, but these are the colleges that I am considering:
Bridgewater State College
Fitchburg State College
Salem State College
I may perhaps be leaning towards Bridgewater, but I'm not sure. Have any of you been to these schools? Anyone here good figuring out costs and such? I appreciate all help.
A: If you call or email admissions at these schools, they will be able to tell you the following:
- In-state tuition rate
- Cost for housing (dorms)
- Cost for board (food), and what the different meal plans are
- Average approximate cost for books
So you can do a comparison. These are common questions, so they'll be able to answer, no problem. Know, however, that your financial aid should be able to help you out re: room and board. Financial aid doesn't just cover tuition.
Q: Massachusetts private schools and the law?
I was kicked out of a private school in Massachusetts for stating to the school counselor that I wanted to die. I was then hospitalized and my mom took me out against medical advice and my school kicked me out then. Can I sue them for this? Keep in mind they are a PRIVATE school.
A: if you were in pubic school you could in private schools they have you sign papers (or your gaurdian) read the paperwork im sure it states if you create an air of destructive or derogatory behavior, gives them leeway to do just about anything but beat you up, cjhs
Q: Are there any good acting schools in Massachusetts?
I really want to try and become an actress. I live in Massachusetts near Boston. Also, if I were to move...which is better New York or L.A to pursue an acting career?
A: I'm going to answer your N.Y. or LA question first and then your Boston predicament. It depends on what kind of acting you'd like to do. LA will primarily book you film stuff (mostly commercials to be realistic) and NY will mostly book you stage roles (if you're lucky). But you can find either one in both cities and plenty of voice over work which pays ALOT and is totally underrated. Okay now on to Boston:
If you want to be a professional actor in Boston I would suggest joining stagesource. Stagesource (google this) has annual auditions for pretty much every major theater company in the area and you don't need to have an equity card to participate (thought you do need to pay to be a stage source member). Stagesource makes it so you don't really need to get your equity card in Boston unless you get cast in a show that requires you get your card (and I believe those are pretty rare in Boston though pretty much every professional theater in NY will demand you be a AEmember).
There are also plenty of community theaters/fringe theater companies/non-professional theaters around Boston that you can audition for to pad your resume with. They probably won't lead to a professional career but you'll gain experience and more importantly contacts with other cast members/behind the scenes theater people who can hook you up down the line (you never know where your fellow actors/crew members will end up and who will want to take you with them..) I check a few audition websites like NETheater411, or emact.org (google these) and have found a lot of great theater companies this way, most of which most their casting calls their websites.
Now, if you're still young (if you look around eight to fifteen years old) and are pretty attractive you can get some work through BostonCasting which is a pretty good casting agency in the area that works really hard for their kids as long as their kids work really hard for them--but this place is primarily modeling so you need to be consistently cute. The plus side of Bostoncasting is that you'll sometimes book stuff outside of Boston and it is professional work so who knows where that'll lead you.
I'll leave you with the most important pieces of advice: Go to college (you can major in theater), remember that any casting agency that asks you for money up front without booking you a job (John Robert Powers..) is a scam, and be persistent in what you want. Good luck!

Q: can anyone give me any info on the uni. of massachusetts schools? which one is the best?
i would like to know more info on the schools. if u can give me any other info on other schools up north that are good but not hard to get into that would be great. thanks.
A: Academically, UMass Amherst has the best reputation.
It is in a consortium with some of the best colleges in the country: Amherst College (#2 liberal arts school in the country), Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Hampshire--and you can take classes at any of those schools (or transfer to them quite easily, if you get good grades.)
It is a big party school, but most big schools are.
Hampshire is not hard to get in to. It is very artsy. You don't get grades--you get evaluations. Its an interesting school. Northeastern is also easy to get in to--its in Boston.

Q: How much easier are the high schools in Orlando than they are in Massachusetts?
I might be moving to Orlando, and right now I am entering my Junior year in high school. We have S2, S1, and Honors. (S2 being the lowest and Honors being the highest). I take all S1 classes. What level classes should I take down there?
A: It really depends on what school in Orlando you will be going to. I moved to Florida from Connecticut and found that I was relearning many things I had already been taught. The school will place you based on the classes you were in in MA (from what you have listed probably AP classes) since you don't have FCAT scores.
Here is a site where you can look up some information about your new school:
http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/go/FL
Good luck in your new school!
