Q: What is a great and not pricey cosmetology school in Las Vegas?
I'm currently a teacher in Las Vegas, and am looking into going into cosmetology school p/t. Teachers here don't make a lot of money and hair styling is something I've always wanted to do. I just don't know what school is not so pricey and is a great school to learn from. Can anybody give me some info?
Thanks!
A: Academy of Hair Design
Q: What are some reasons to spend more money at a great school in the first two years?
basically, why do people go to a great school early on as opposed to going to community college or somewhere perhaps less prestigious?
A: There may be a few good reasons to go the expensive 4-year college, but for the most part you are just as well off to go to a community college for the first two years. If money is not an issue then go ahead and start at a four-year school, but if you want to spend a LOT less, go to a c.c. or a cheaper school.
Many students don't even know what they want to major in until the end of their sophomore year, so they spend the first two years just getting their general education requirements out of the way.
If you do decide to start at at one school and then transfer to another, make sure the credits will transfer over. I disagree with the first answer saying it is hard to transfer credits, as I haven't seen anyone with that problem.
Good luck!!

Q: How do I make this a great school year?
Its my final year in middle school and everybody says it should be great.
How do I accomplish that?
Studying advice?
Beauty advice?
Boy advice?
I don't want to embarrass myself so please help!
A: Studying advice - Don't procrastinate! And keep everything in order. This will be good practice for highschool, because deadlines are shorter and teachers usually don't layout plans for projects.
Beauty advice - Get a new haircut that makes you feel cute and confident. And try clothes that are out of the box for you and mix them with your original wardrobe. Or try dabbling in makeup, when you're younger, mascara, glittery eyeshadow, and simple lipgloss are good choices.
Boy advice - Confidence! Don't worry about every little move you make around a boy. Have trust in yourself and it will make you all the more attractive.
Q: What suburbs of Austin, TX have affordable housing, decent job market and a great school system?
My family and I currently live in Delaware and have lived in various states on the east coast. We are sick of the winters and my husband and son suffers from allergies that are further aggrivated by the seasonal changes. We are interested in a location that have very mild winters where snow is almost non-existant.
We are also looking for a place with reasonably priced housing and a great school system. Any advice on what Austin suburbs to look at? Thanks for the help in advance.
A: The City of Round Rock, which just north of Austin has more affordable housing than Austin, good schools and good jobs. The job market in North Austin is also quite good. I have to warn you though, before you decide on Austin, allergies are a major problem here. Primarily, molds, cedar, oak, elm and grasses. Other than that, it's one of the best places to live in the U.S. Most of the good schools are in the northern, central and western parts of the city. Where to live will probably have something to do with where you're employed. Check out Austin360.com and Statesman.com
Q: can someone suggest a great teacher training school for yoga?
i'd like to become an instructor and take the 200 hour basic course. can anyone suggest a great school somewhere on the east coast? any where from new york down to florida or maybe in the pittsburgh area?
A: Every day we experience stresses, which test our strength. Majority of us spend the whole day at the
computer, in a stuffy room. And here we start to notice overweight, which we are eager to get rid, as it’s
summer! We have no time and forces to visit a gym, but we all want looking good. Is it close to you? So, what
to do?

Q: How do i go about finding a great school for my son?
My son is just 2, but I plan on enrolling him in a great school when the time comes. Currently the school district I live in is not doing so great...what are the rules and regulations as to geting him into another school?
Southern California, Inland Empire
A: I think, if you are planning on enrolling him in a school other than the one in your district, that you have to have permission from both districts--the one you live in, and the one you want to transfer him to. They probably won't want to make exceptions, especially the one in which you live, because they receive money from the state for each child--so it'd cost them money not to have your son.
Call up your school and have a friendly chat with the secretary/receptionist, and ask what your chances are. (Of course, you could always move, but that's expensive.)

Q: How to change my life and get in a great school???
Hi, to whom sees this question.
I am a newcomer to Canada who have been here for 10 months. I am an ESL student now studying in Grade 10. I start to think about how can I get in a great school in North America. I am not the best student in our school, but I am excellent. I really expect to be the most excellent figure. But I have no idea what should I focus on. What fields of knowledge I must be know(and good at)? What do I need to start to prepare? Tell me everything I need to do for getting into a great university and improving my life. Tell me every detail. I'll do whatever I need to do no matter how hard is it. My family is not rich at all, we borrow some money to support our family actually.
I will be very grateful if you could provide precious information.
Thank all of you who see my question.
p.s. Tell me some material or books I need to read. Tell me some places I should visit(or work) for improving myself. Thank you.
A: Hi,
I cannot answer you for the entirity of NA, but I can help you out on Canadian schools.
Getting into a Canadian school depends on one thing: marks. Getting into specific programmes depends on marks and sometimes essays (ie I believe Science One at UBC requires an essay for entrance).
You need to decide for yourself what field you are interested in. Nobody here can help you with that! What courses in school do you enjoy? what career can you see yourself doing?
Be a well-rounded person. Study your school topics, but also keep up to date on current events. Read the newspaper, watch the news, ask questions of what you see. If you're interested, then do a bit of investigation into what you see - what led to the current situation? What does it affect? Excercise your brain with 'what ifs' - what if the cost of oil quadruples in the next five years? What would happen if the polar ice caps melt?
Keep a journal. Question your responses to what you see happening around you. This will help you to learn introspection.
Best of luck!
Q: Dear Parents, I am looking for a recommendation on a great school for my 5 year old.?
I am looking for a school which has great academics, good extra curricular activities and happy students.
A: What state?
Q: What is a great undergraduate law school?
Soon I will be graduating high school and I would like to get a few suggestions on some great law schools. I will have to go to some kind of university. Then I would really like to go to Harvard or any other kind of highly esteemed sschool. Any kind of suggestion would help. I don't care where the school is located.
A: There is no such thing as an undergraduate law school. In order to attend law school you have to have a bachelor's degree. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to major in Political Science, Government, etc etc. You can get a bachelor's in any major and still attend law school. However, you must receive an acceptable score on the LSATs, have glowing recommendations, an above average GPA and of course the funds to finance this costly degree. For more info go here:

Q: What is a great school to transfer to for a hopeful pediatrician?
i will be attending ODU this fall (2007) and i dont think its the best idea to stay there all 4 years of my college tandom. so i was wondering what would be a good school to transfer to? and around what yr or semester should i transfer?
A: Why don't you think it's a good idea to transfer? If you transfer, then you want to transfer up to a school that's more prestigious. There's nothing wrong with Old Dominion so I'm curious as to why you think it's a good idea to transfer (you run into issues of getting all your credits to transfer over, etc).
Transfers normally happen when you enter the new school as a junior. Some let you do it after your freshman year. Depends on the school. WHen you do it doesn't really matter as the only change is the name of the school on your diploma.
Q: What is a great school to attend to if you want to study International Relations?
I have applied to georgetown and american, I wanted more of a liberal arts school and also schools that their application deadline hasn't passed. Also should I still apply to schools if their application deadline has passed?
A: I would go with an overseas place!
Q: What is a great school to go to major in social work?
I know there are many schools that offer the course, but is there a school that is just widely known for their program?
A: Since you use the term "major" I'm assuming you are referring to a BSW rather than a graduate program. Most schools of social work are known for their MSW programs not their undergrad and many well known MSW programs do not have BSW programs. That said, I would look more to the overall repuation of the school for an undergrad degree. The better the overall school repuation the more weight the BSW degree will carry in getting into a MSW program (which you can do with advanced standing admission). You can go to www.cswe.org to look up undergrad programs that are accredited (you will want to make sure the program is accredited). All social work programs have similar curriculum around the country. What you will look at is number of majors vs. number of faculty (consider ratio). You may also want to look at scholarly productivity of the faculty (e.g. have they published books/papers, do they work with students on their research). All of these things will increase the standing of the program.
Q: Do you know some great pre-school picture books that discuss the virtue of love?
I'll be teaching the virtue of LOVE to my pre-schoolers in the month of February. I'll need some very good picture books about the subject to share with them. This is for a Religious Science Sunday school class. So if the books discuss God as Love - that's great too!
A: I teach in the public school system so I can't use faith-based materials, but I would use books like The Kissing Hand, Love You Forever (if you can read it without crying!), and I Love You Stinky Face.
Q: There seem to be a ton of great high school runners from Florida?
compared with great high school runners in Northern states like Minnesota. I thnk this has to do with the cold winters up here and the amount of training that is possible. So, if there were two high school runners with exactly the same times, one from Florida and one from Minnesota, would colleges look at the one from Minnesota as better? Or at least with more potential?
A: you can still train in the winter, indoors and out. you just have to dress for the weather. So I don't think it matters were they are from just there technic, and attitude!
