Q: How are the elementary schools in Brookside in Kansas City?
We are looking to move to the Brookside area. I know the KCMO school district has a poor reputation, but does that extend to Brookside elementary schools? I want my children to have a diverse learning experience, and I want to help improve the schools. However, if they are truly incompetent, I cannot sacrifice my child's education. Are schools like Border Star Montessori and Bryant Elementary satisfactory? Does anyone have direct experience with them? And what are some reasonable cost private school options?

A: Try the website below, it has a lot of good information...

Q: What elementary schools are available to opt into for this home address:?
I am looking at a home for sale at 2219 kara circle in pappilion nebraska...It is omaha public school district BUT I want to opt into papillion/lavista elementary school. Which schools are available for me to do this?

A: Ask Mr. Blum. Scott Blum, Principal Anderson Grove Elementary School Papillion-LaVista Public Schools 402.898.0479 sblum@paplv.esu3.org

Q: How do you feel about year round elementary schools?
Do you like year round elementary schools? Do you think students at year rounds elementary schools learn more or less or the same as traditional schools?

A: I'm not nuts about the idea, because the kids get a month long break and they forget everything and this happens 4 times a year. I'd rather they had one break when they forget everything and have them start anew in the fall. Therefore, I think there's less time spent reviewing and more time spent learning on the 9-month plan. I'm not a working mom, so it doesn't affect me, but I can understand why lots of folks would have an easier time day-care wise with year round schools. On the other hand, my kids are old enough to have summer jobs, and I like that a lot. Not because they're earning $$, but because they are getting lessons in maturity, responsibility, etc. Three month summers work for me.

Q: What are your thoughts about elementary schools in the Palo Alto Unified School District?
Are the schools too academic/focused on test scores? Or is the curriculum more balanced and focused on the whole child? Is the bureaucracy heavy or agile? Are class sizes too large for individual instruction? We're trying to decide on PAUSD or private for elementary schools. Any thoughts from those who've been through it would be appreciated. Thanks.

A: The Palo Alto schools are good for CA elementary schools. Some are better than others such as Nixon which is populated with Stanford prof's kids. Still, those who can afford it, and who can get in, are overwhelmingly choosing private school options. Even with foundation money, the public schools just can't compete resource wise. Also, the PA middle schools are a problem, but getting a kid into a top private at middle school level is very hard so having them in from K can be a help. If you have girls you may try out the public school and pray for Castilleja for 6th grade on. And if you're a typical PA family thinking about college already, compare the college placement of Paly or Gunn to Menlo or Casti--pathetic!

Q: Does all the Elementary schools in California have vacation on same months?
Hi! Does all the Elementary schools in California have vacation on same months? Can a mother teach in same school, where her son/daughter is studying?

A: Nope. Sorry. It would be great if they did but it's pretty absurd at how far apart they are sometimes. If you are worried about the Thanksgiving Holiday I am sure it will be pretty much the same everywhere. And yes you can teach in the same school as the one your children attend. I had a lot of friends with parents who were teachers. They just make sure they place you in a different classroom.

Q: Good public elementary schools and good apartments in San Rafael?
I am thinking of moving to San Rafael. What are the good public elementary schools and good apartments in and around San Rafael? What is the average rent for a 2 bedroom apartment? Is this city good for families?

A: Try Yahoo! Real Estate site. You can find school data there too from this link: http://realestate.yahoo.com/California/San_Rafael/Schools/result.html

Q: What are the qualifications for obtaining a certificate to teach in the elementary schools in the city of orl
What are the qualifications for obtaining a certificate to teach in the elementary schools in the city of orlando,FL?

A: You should first start with going on line to Florida's Dept. of Education. Most counties in Florida want to know you are eligible to teach the subject area you are applying for. When you go on line you can fill out an application and there is a $75 fee for elementary ed. You have to send in your official transcripts and an educational rep will check to see if you are qualified. It takes about 4-6 weeks. You will then receive a letter stating if you are qualified or not and what steps you need to take to get certified. You will also have access to check the progress of an application online. I know right now most counties are only looking for people who hold a degree in shortage areas. Good Luck~

Q: Can I get a copy of my class photos from old elementary schools?
Do elementary schools keep old class photos in an archive somewhere, if so would I be able to request copies? I'm looking for 1st grade through 5th grade.

A: I doubt it, but they may have the negatives. You could try finding a former classmate on Classmates.com and ask if you could get a copy. It is a lot easier than you might think.

Q: Good elementary schools and areas to live in Great Falls Montana?
I am getting ready to move to Great Falls Montana next month, and have been looking online at houses. Can anyone tell me a good area to buy a house and what elementary schools are good?

A: I have never been there but the city's website is a good place to start for finding the answers you're looking for.

Q: Do elementary schools keep their year books?
Ok i used to have soo many pictures when i was younger but they all where lost due to moving. I was wondering if anybody knew if elementary schools kept yearbooks? Im 22 now and i was thinking all the way back till 1st grade maybe.

A: I know that in my small town they almost always have them...pretty far back. And if the school themselves don't then I'm sure a teacher or secretary that's worked there for a while has a copy that you could borrow and maybe get a photocopy or scan of some images. Last but not least you could track down some old school mates through myspace or facebook. Your ten year reunion will be coming up before you know it, lol.

Q: What is the school fees like for private elementary schools in Virginia, USA?
I am from East Asia, planning to move to Virginia. I want to send my kids to a good private elementary school. Can some one tell me what is the expected costs including fees, extra curricular activities, books, transporation etc? Thanks.

A: Most private elementary cost under $10,000. $3000 - $6500 should be a fair price for one year of tuition. BUT it really depend what school are you going send your child to.

Q: what web site do I go to,to find out about Mayport,FL elementary schools?
My husband is in the Navy and we might be moving to Mayport,Fl and I need information about elementary schools and good neighborhoods.

A: Try www.greatschools.net , but, Mayport is Duval County, which is actually Jacksonville, Florida. The schools may be better in the Mayport (Atlantic Beach) area, but as a general rule, Duval county schools are not very good. If you can afford it, move to Clay or St Johns county and commute to work, as the schools in those counties have a better reputation.

Q: Does anyone know how long the Dick and Jane readers were used in the elementary schools?
I have no idea how many elementary schools in the U.S. used the Dick and Jane readers. I lived in the midwest. It was 1961 when we had them in first grade and I would imagine they were used before that year. I was wondering what year they were first introduced and when they were last used.

A: RoHo started in 1948, RoHo read Dick and Jane, RoHo doesn't know when they stopped.

Q: Is there a desire for more male teachers in elementary schools? Would this affect the hiring process?
I am a sub and in many of the elementary schools i teach at there are rarely any male teachers. The ratio of female to male teacher is prob around 6:1 (just an estimate) would males have any edge in the hiring process?

A: Many elementary schools are making an effort to hire males in order to give students positive role models. Yes, a male may have an edge as schools try to hire a balanced and diverse staff of both males and females PROVIDED they were equally qualified.
