A: Hmm ... I'm not sure on the number of computers, because I don't know about your school. Elementary school: 20 computers should be fine. Middle school: 40 computers should be enough. High school: 60-80 computers is pretty good, because many high schools need widespread internet access. You mentioned "IT"? Well, if IT is related to technology, then you should have a large number of computers. I'm not sure how many IT students you have, but I think 2 students to 1 computer is enough, unless they will all be using the computers at the same time; then you would need 1 computer for every student. For software, well, Windows is mandatory, as well as Internet Explorer (which should come with Windows). You might also want to get Microsoft Office, which is required for students to do work on the PC's. For specifications... hmmm... I think you will need some fairly high-performance PC's, with the emphasis on the memory (RAM) and CPU rather than the video card. Talk to your local "geek store" salesman for more info. You might want to mention "computers for business use," and you should get some more help. I wouldn't recommend buying any computers over 2000 dollars, or any computers under 500. I think 700-1500 per computer is pretty good for an IT school, but students might want more powerful and expensive PC's for programming and software design. If they're only using them for Internet access and light work, then sub-500 computers might be viable choice. Once again, ask around, contact the geek stores (keep in mind that they want to sell you their goods) as well as other schools to see what they have.

A: It depends on a lot of factors how you should present this need. For one, the age group that would be using these systems. The older, the higher the requirement. Also the age of the current systems. If they are over 8 years then by industry definition, they are at the end of their life. What is the system's use? The board will likely weigh the need for systems vs the cost. Schools hate spending money so you need to make it seem like they really need it otherwise the students will suffer. I would show it as a cost vs cost presentation. What is the cost of the systems vs the cost of what the children/school/classroom will lose. A simple economics scale. If the computers are slow then that cuts into class use giving the teacher less time to work with the students. If the computers are not capable then maybe they don't offer enough capability to teach students what they should be learning. You also need to know when to present it. If the school recently spent any money on item upgrades then they won't consider the computers. You don't want to be too pushy, at first. If they propose to use money in a place you don't feel it's necessary then show them how the computer needs outweigh that need. Proposals with schools are very hard, especially when it comes to technology and money. Take your time and have research. Schools should have new systems every 5-8 years. Computer components are only built to last a max of 8 years anyway.

The school i go to has A TON of the brand new iMacs, MacBook Pros for all the teachers, and iBook G4s for all the other computer labs. How can they afford that? Macs are way more expensive then other PCs.

A: oh! the school finds ways. my school overcharges the students at lunch and im pretty sure it happens everywhere. one raman noodle cup is $1 and one otis spunkmeyer muffin is about $3. One slice of pizza is $1.75. a case of 4pack AA batteries in my school store cost about $4 or $5. so yea thats why they can buy all those macs. funny thing is, my school is in $8 million debt and they are planning to buy a huge jumbotron for our football stadium after they all ready wasted lots of money buying tons of flatscreen tvs to display announcements all over the school.

A: there isn't one, it's blocked for a reason, get your own internet and do as you please on it What on the internet is worth losing your internet privledges completly? obviously you can't use it home so what will you do when you have NO internet access PERIOD

Well, my school has one universal account for ALL students to use. However, with individual accounts, it is easier to monitor individual student internet access. So, why do some schools not have individual web accounts, but rather one universal, virtually untrackable computer account?

A: my school has individual student accounts too, but the school i transferred from does not. instead they make it mandatory to sign into the computer you are using, sadly, on a piece of paper next to the computer, and recommend you write in ink. but, to give them some credit, they do have a room where all the activities on the school server is monitored, and if anything suspitious or inappropriate is spotted then the person in that room can immediately find which computer in which room and notify the principal, who swoops in and catches them in the act.

Does anyone know any schools in London providing Computer Training in a short time but accredited and certified. You know, the main programs in order to get an office Job as a Receptionist, Data Entry. Secretary training as well in a short term? A: Do a CLAIT or ECDL Course at your local college. I did a CLAIT Course, it cost me £30 for 100 hours of classroom time. There was a teacher on hand at all time, the students could work through the material at their pace. For the first CLAIT you have to show that you can switch a computer on and off, and do 'basic' things in 3 software packages - I choose Word, Excel and Access (Databases). There are 3 CLAIT Courses - Begineers, Intermediate and Advanced. There are 2 ECDL Courses. At the end you walk away with a certificate from the OCR RSA Examiners.

A: You can't. Sorry. If you want the program that badly (enough to STEAL it! ) then go buy it. Many software companies will usually offer deals to students where you can get the program relatively cheaply. Oh, I just checked, Adobe does offer a student version cheaper than the retail version, there you go.

I would also recommend you think about whether or not you are more interested in the programming aspect of animation or the art because you might prefer a technical computer engineering type school to an art school.
