Q: How does a community affect teachers and schools?
Ok so I have to write a paper explaining how a community affects the teachers and schools of that community. How do you classify how large a community is? How would a person find out this effects of a certain community and school they have never been to that school or community and can't find any information about it online?
A: The schools belong to the community and are usually run by a School Board which sets policy for the district. That Board is composed of elected citizens from the community where the schools are located. They are in charge of setting the budget, for approving the hiring and firing of personnel, and for setting all policies by which the schools are run. Thus they have much power and influence in running the schools which, of course, affects the teachers and students alike. In addition, there are usually parent organizations such as Boosters who support various endeavors of the school such as Band Boosters, Sports Boosters, or more specifically, Football Boosters. Parent Advisory Councils also exist in many schools made up of parents. Thus there are many ways in which a community affects teachers and schools.
Chow!!
Q: Do your community schools need to be replaced or need repair?
Personally, I think it's a shame that politicians talk about how important education is to America's youth, while at the same time ignoring the fact that many of our schools are crumbling in deterioration.
A: Home schooling and School choice is a better option. We can close those old raggedy buildings in favor of a more effective education.
Q: Is it true Florida has free college for community schools?
Is it true Florida residents get to go to college for free? If yes what specific schools are included?
A: If you live in Florida, and have good grades, you are eligible for something called a Bright Futures Scholarship.
go here: http://www.fldoe.org/student/
The public universities are:
Florida A&M University
Florida Atlantic University
Florida Gulf Coast University
Florida International University
Florida State University
New College of Florida
University of Central Florida
University of Florida
University of North Florida
University of South Florida
University of West Florida
There are different requirement for certain levels of scholarship. Depending on your SAT scores and grade point averages, you can get up to 100% of your tuition paid for.
The requirements are:
Be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, as determined by the student's postsecondary institution.
Earn a standard Florida high school diploma or its equivalent.
Be accepted by and enroll in an eligible Florida public or independent postsecondary education institution, within 3 years of high school graduation. If you enlist directly into the military after graduation, your three-year period begins on the date you separated from active duty.
Be enrolled for at least 6 semester credit hours (12 semester credit hours for early admission students) or the equivalent in quarter hours or clock hours.
Not have been found guilty of, or plead nolo contendere to, a felony charge, unless the student has been granted clemency by the Governor and Cabinet sitting as the Executive Office of Clemency.
Apply for a scholarship from the program by high school graduation.
GOOD LUCK!
Q: Moving to Mississippi Gulfcoast need to know about schools and community?
Hello , i am a mother of 3 children , i am moving to the gulf coast of Mississippi . I want to move in a area that has alot to offer my children. A good community where there are alot structured youth programs .
I also would like to know which public schools are the best or have a good homeschooling organization .
Any information would be helpful thank you
A: Congratulations on your move, you're gonna love it here! Ocean Springs has the best schools and youth programs. Also low crime. As a result the price of real estate is a little higher than surrounding areas, but not ridiculously so.
Vancleave and East Central (Hurley) school districts are also highly rated but are a little north of the coast (north of I-10).
As for hurricanes, well, it's a part of life down here. Katrina was exceptionally bad but I've lived here all of my life (I'm 41) so I've seen 'em all since Camille in '69. Insurance is high down here as a result but for now we just have to deal with it. Just don't be a "cowboy", when they call for a mandatory evacuation, LEAVE.
Most of the cities have their own websites, look on a map, then google a few of them. Here's a link to Jackson County's website--> www.co.jackson.ms.us
Q: Whats the difference between community schools and public schools?
A: as far as i know the terms mean the same...
there are school here (NYC) called CS123 for example and PS345. Both are part of the Bd of Ed and both are public... just a difference in terminolgy.
Q: Whats the difference between private schools and community colleges?
What do they have in common and what do they have differenty? I want to know because im planning to transfer from a community college to a private school. Is one better than the other? Thanks for the help.
A: private schools you can't really get in unless you have excellent grades and it takes forever to gain acceptance to the school. community college, your grades don't really matter. all you have to do is take what is called an accuplacer test and it tells them the areas you need to work on and they place you in those courses to begin with, you fill out papers for financial aid and/or loans and you get in. no matter what your grades are/were in high school. just make sure you pass all of your courses each semester with C's or above. but in a private school you can more attention when you are having problems and in some community colleges you have so many students that you can't get the help you need.
Q: Any info/ views on Governments proposed 'Community schools' in UK?
Any views/info would be much appreciated, using this topic for and MSc Social Work. Thanks!
A: Here is one example: http://www.colne.essex.sch.uk/
Q: How long until Community Theatres and High Schools can do Hairspray?
The title pretty much sums it up. How long until community theatres and high schools can get the rights to Hairspray since its leaving Broadway in January...
A: mtishows.com lists it as newly available actually, but because itw as recently on broadway/movie it is likely to be more expensive. so as soon as you want for your answer, but money is the next issue.
Q: What are some good community college schools for photography in oc,ca??
I would like to go to a community college for photography. I want it near where i'll be living. which is in Orange County, Irvine to be exact. ANy suggestions or websites? Much aprreacted.
A: The only place I could think of is the Art Institute of Pasedena. It's not necessarily near your area but that's the only place I can think of.
Q: In your opinion, should high schools require students to do a certain number of hours of community service?
In some high schools, students are required to complete a certain number of community service hours prior to graduation. Some people think community service is a good requirement because they think the students will benefit from this experience. Other people think schools should not require community service because students will resent the requirement and as a result not benefit from the experience.
A: At my high school, they required 6 hours of community service. This was incorporated into a senior civics class, and if you didn't complete it you lost a letter grade. Almost all students opted to lose a letter grade.
Q: Do medical schools accept credits from community college?
I am a freshman at UC Berkeley majoring in molecular and cell biology. I took Calculus I at a university my junior year of high school; however, I know that most medical schools want two years of math. Therefore, I was wondering if it would be sufficient if I took Calculus II at a community college in the summer time. Would medical schools accept this? Would these two classes together fulfill the one year math requirement? Please answer this question only if you have enough knowledge/experience about this topic. Thank you!
A: hey my sister did bachelors in molecular biology and in genetics. She went to community college first and then transferred out to UCLA for medical school. She took her calculus in community college. ...so i guess it's okay.
Q: Do medical schools or law schools care whether you transferred from a community college to a four year school?
I am debating as to whether I should attend a four year university, but incur the costs of attending. Or maybe I should attend a community college and then transfer. I heard that community colleges don't have as good professors as do four year institutions. I also heard that graduate schools prefer people who have taken all their classes at a 4 year university.
A: Yes, they care. All the things you wrote that you heard are correct. But they do admit people who went to community colleges.
If you're still in high school, you'd be better off taking the AP exams. You can take them even if you don't take AP courses. Get an AP exam book to study from. If you're financially needy, they will waive the exam fees.
That way, you could knock a year off your college expenses just by earning the credits through the tests. Try for APs in English, biology, chemistry and calculus.
Also look for scholarships - there are all kinds, and they are not based on financial need.
Q: Will the cleveland community schools be open tomorrow. Not public?
After the shooting,it was said that the scholls in cleveland would be closed.
A: I'm from Cleveland,,OH. I'm a high school student. ALL Cleveland City schools will be closed tomorrow and Friday. Dr. Sanders was the one that made the announcement earlier this evening, or may I say yesterday. I was near the school went it happened. I get out of school at 1:30pm and I was in Cleveland Public Power Services when it happened. All you could hear were screams, police, and ambulances. Well I hope that answers your question. Good night!
Q: Where do I find grants for education initiatives for low income community schools?
I am a science teacher who needs laptops for students in our science classrooms. Computers would allow computer simulations, online tutorials, online assessment with immediate feedback. We need a new way of teaching students with the goal of decreasing the science achievement gap.
Dr. Rascoe
A: Check out the NEA Foundation grants. They fund multiple projects throughout the year. The grant writing process if fairly painless. Also - check out www.teacherwishlist.com. It allows you to create a wish list and people donate gifts.
Q: Is it easier to transfer between CSU schools or from a Community College to a CSU school?
My goal is to transfer to a CSU school further away from home after only one year. My major is teaching.
I got accepted to CSULA and CSUN, and also to a local Community College (PCC). I was wondering if it would be easier to transfer to a CSU school from another CSU school, or from a Community Colllege to a CSU school after only one year. Any advice you have would be GREATTTTLY appreciated!
A: My understanding of the Cal State/U Cal university system is that you can transfer from Cal State to Cal State, so long as you're not trying to move "up" a level. Moving from, say, Cal State Riverside to UCLA would be very difficult. Moving from a cc to UCLA would be easier. But moving between two similar Cal States should be possible.
There are also issues with how long you can spend at the first school, and it seems that a lot of the Cal schools require you to have a certain list of classes done at the first school before you can transfer.
You should contact the schools you're considering moving to, and speak to someone in transfer admissions. You should also check their websites.
