Q: Christian school?
What are the pros and cons? My son is 4 and in a christian pre-school. My plans are to keep him in this christian school until high school. They are very fun there and don't wear uniforms or anything.

A: My daughter was in a Christian school 1st thru 6th grade. Then I felt she needed a public school cause kids need to know how to deal in the world when they become adults. Now that I rethink it and she is grown, maybe I should have kept her in the Christian school. It was a great experience for her and I felt she was safer there. Good luck!

Q: what are the requirements to be an art teacher at a private christian school?
I'm looking to be an art teacher at a private christian school, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any requirements that must be met before I'd be able to apply for a job. I'm currently a college student a year away from getting my associates in fine arts, and I work with kids at a day care.

A: Depends on your state, but here's the basics. (I'm an art teacher. Living in Ohio, but moving to either VA or SC to teach this school year!!) -4 year college degree w/ your teaching certificate; That includes student teaching & lots of observing. -Take the Praxis II test (Principles of Teaching & Learning) & the Art Content section -FBI & other background checks depending on the state. TB test depending on the state To apply for the job, you'll have to have all those thing plus references, probably at least 3. Some schools require letter references. You'll have to fill out their application, which can normally be found online. Private schools require the exact same things that public schools do for the most part. Unless the area is really desperate for a teacher (which you might get lucky to find a job down south where they need you really bad & let you teach w/ an associate's degree) you'll have to go for your BA. If they do let you, then they'll give you time to get you BA while teaching. You probably won't get paid very well at all since you don't have your BA. & teaching in a private school almost always means you'll make less than public school.

Q: How to find a good/reputable Christian Boarding school in Midwest US?
How to check a christian school's history? In other words, how do I know a school is a good one, if all the academic standards are satisfying form the its web info?

A: I found this Boarding School Review site that rates particular schools according to standards like teacher-student ratios, extracurricular activities, academics, etc. The only problem, though, is that they seem to have a relatively short list of Christian schools and most of them don't appear to the in the Midwest. Here's the link to their Christian boarding school page: http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/christian-boarding-schools.php This site and another one by the same company also have these pages on why boarding school is a good option and how to choose a private school which include some criteria for picking schools that might be useful: http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/whyboarding.php http://www.privateschoolreview.com/private-schools.php Additionally - look at these links in the Yahoo Directory. It looks like several of these organizations have information about how to choose schools and also particular schools that are a part of different networks, including the Association of Midwest Boarding Schools: http://dir.yahoo.com/Education/k_12/schools/Boarding/United_States Other than that, I think there's a degree to which you just have to do as much research as possible and then go with the school that seems best for an individual child. I hope the links help - good luck.

Q: What should I expect when attending a Christian private school?
On August 6th I'm going to be a 10th grader at Saint Paul Christian School. Currently I'm an anxious 9th grader fresh from public school hallways. I'm really nervous and I don't know who to confide in comforting me. That's where you come in. Please help!! P.S., I am a female so give me some girl advice. Thanks a million and Happy Answering!

A: uniforms, better lunches, all school church services, smaller class sizes, a peacful scene. and more help / attention then you EVER got in ps ( public school) Listen dont worry i Loved my time at catholic school I went for a year due to problems in PS...then i transfered to high school. Friends will be ther e before you know it. you will have closer contacts with your teachers which sounds bad but trust me its a good thing later on... Try not to worry just be polite and be open to whatever the day hands you.. rememebr they want to hear about the public school world.....

Q: My son is transferring to a Christian school, what issues will I have to deal with?
My 13 year old son is transferring from public schools to a Christian school. He asked to be transferred because of the bad influences, bad teachers etc. at the public schools. What kind of adjustment is he in for at this conservative school? What issues may come up for him? They do have a strict dress code, and issue demerits for behavior problems. He is a well behaved child most of the time, but with his age, he is somewhat rebellious.

A: Well, there may not be any girls there depending on the school, but this is actually a blessing in disguise. Your son will be able to pay attention alot better, I know that from experience. They will probably keep good control of him though, and teach him some very important discipline. He will soon learn he would rather be in dress code and behave than whatever the punishment is. Public schools fall in their handing out of punishments. As for adjustments, probably expect a lot more homework and tougher quizzes/tests. You'll have to keep an eye on him and make sure he stays up to date with all his work. But other than that, it should be a good experience for all of you.

Q: What to write for a christian high school newspaper article that tests the waters but wont be thrown out?
keep in mind i am not free to write about any article but i do like to push boundaries and see how far i can go without getting my articles revoked i attend a private prissy little christian school and like to test the waters...all answers appriciated....

A: Write about the comparison of test results for christian school students and public school students of the same age.

Q: Do you think that sending your child to a christian school is good?
I was sent to a christian elementary, middle, and high school. And I do not know if I really want to send my children to a Christian school.

A: I went to a christian school for my HS in sophmore and Junior year, I have to say it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. The people are very nice, ..............strict, but nice. I think it just depends on how you want to raise your child, like in a christian school it is all about Jesus and respect, or if you rather let him know Christianity by just going to church on the weekends and going to a normal school where there are all kinds of religions, if any. If I where you, If he is old enough I would give him the option. Maybe it is what he wants, I wouldn't blame him. Or he doesn't want to, that's good too. I think it is up to your child to decide what path he wants to go on. If he is young and you want him to go to a Christian school, why not? Do it!! Until he gets older and then let him choose. There is no bad reason for not going to a private school, at least with my experience! Good Luck!

Q: I am starting school at a Christian school and I used to go to a bad school. Help?
I am switching schools from a redneck, badmouth middle school to a uptight Christian school. How can I prepare and NOT say bad words or do bad things. I mean, the atmosphere will be completely different there. Also, how can I stop gossiping completely. You will get in trouble if you gossip, there. Thank you!

A: Have you ever heard the phrase "you are who your friends are"? Just make sure to spot the "good kids" (no matter how dorky they make look) Trust me, I was a BIG ole' dork in school, but I was also, and still am, a good friend and have managed to stay out of "big" trouble ;-) You already know bad people can influence you to do bad things, so try the other side now. Look out for kids that you know will influence you in the right direction. That said, don't be so hard on yourself about things that most people do. (Yes, even the "nicest" kids gossip, especially girls...as a 30 yr old woman I can tell you that NEVER goes away) The best thing you can do when people start to gossip is stay "silent" . That doesn't mean you have to preach, but you don't have to add to the situation either. As for the "mouth", try motivating yourself with small "treats". Treating yourself to a new outfit (on sale, of course... who pays full price anymore;-) ) or a yummy little snack that you don't have on a regular basis. Again, don't feel bad if you do find yourself saying something "unchristian" like. We ALL do it. You just have to say "ok, I'll try harder next time". Sounds like you are a good person recognizing the fact that some things need changing. So, have some faith and yourself (hey, even talking to God when no one is around helps too....yes, I do it and I am not a "nut" :-) It actually does help...as long as you mean it, He WILL help) Good luck and God bless!

Q: Christians: How many of you went to a Christian school/college?
I'm only asking because most people I know who either attended a Christian school as a child/teenager, or who studied theology have ended up not being Christian. I'm just wondering how many of you actually went to Christian school and remained a Christian.

A: I attended Christian schools all the way up through the college level, have studied apologetics and debated extensively, and am a committed Christian to this day. I do know some people who attended Christian schools and later forsook the faith altogether, but I know many more who remained Christians.

Q: How Do you find a Sponsor for a Christian School?
My little girl is starting School for the first time and we want her to go to this Amazing Christian School and We're just not able to make it. I cut back on everything extra we have and we are still about $75 short. It's $150 a month and so I was thinking about looking for a Sponsor but I don't have a clue where to look. Any Ideas? Thanks :) Sarah

A: Well a sponsor may be difficult to find unless your child has a godparent of family member that would like to contribute. First pray, ask God to send provision. There are also a few options you can consider. Here are a few ideas: 1. Ask the school of there are any discounts, grants, or scholarships available. Believe it or not many private schools, even the small ones, do offer these programs. 2. Maybe a partial discount could be attained by volunteering some of your time to the school. 3. Ask if you can pay tuition on a 12 month plan rather than the 10-month Sep-June plan. This would make the payments $125 per month, not a big difference but if things are tight it does help. 4. Speak with your accountant... there may be a way of claiming this on your taxes and as a result getting extra money in your refund that can go towards the tuition. 5. $150/ month x 10 months is $1500 if this is the annual tuition, maybe your tax refund would be enough to pay her tuition upfront or at least half which would bring you to $75 per month. Hope this helps. Also, I think sending your daughter to a Christian School is a wonderful idea. I went to a Christian elementary school and a child and I believe it has helped to shape the person I have become today and will be tomorrow.

Q: I'm looking for a good and reputable Christian school in the Gold Coast. Do you know of any?
We are moving to the Gold Coast and I'm looking for a good christian primary school to put my son in. He'll start from year 1. Anyone knows of a good and reputable Christian school?

A: Christian is a pretty broad description! You also might need to consider the area of the Gold Coast to which you're moving - it's a long trek from north to south (or vice versa). I like the look of TSS - all boys and Anglican Other reasonable options include All Saints (co-ed, Anglican), Hillcrest (co-ed, Baptist), Somerset (co-ed, inter-denom) and St Stephens (co-ed, Christian)

Q: What christian school do you think is the best?
Out of all the christian schools I've been to Crossroad Christian Academy is the best.

A: The one you choose!

Q: I am moving to Alpharetta GA and will send my kids to Christian school. Any info on what the best choice is?
I found a few Christian schools there including the Perimeter Christian School, the Whitefield, the King's Ridge, the Greater Atlanta Christian School, etc. If you have info & experience with any of these schools, good or bad, I'd appreciate a great deal if you share it. The spiritual environment, academics, teacher qualifications, facility, student body/culture, extracurricular, etc, are all welcomed information. I found that the Greater Atlanta school posted their SAT average on the web, which is quite impressive. I can't find that info for other schools. Thanks in advance!

A: GA is good i heard , but no experience..

Q: Christian School Administrator needing help with enrollment questions.?
I am an administrator at a small Christian school, like anyone we are in need of more funds. We currently have around 80 students K-12 to balance our budget we need around 200. I am sure other schools have gone through similar problems so my question is where can I find a good website or reading material that will help us get to our goal?

A: I think word of mouth is going to be your most effective means of boosting enrollment. Have you considered encouraging word of mouth by offering your current parents a referral bonus or discount if they bring other families / students in? I imagine you have a website... make sure it is well done, provides admissions info, benefits, contact information, etc. Be sure to offer a tour of the school via your website. You might also consider hosting an open-house at least once every semester. I provide a handful of websites below that might help.

Q: I have to go to a Christian school,what should i do?
My mom is transferring to a Christian school, and im not at all religious. She has already transferred me so i have no way of backing out now, i don't even believe in god and i have no interest in learning about him. Basically what i am saying is that my life has nothing to do with god, how should i handle this?

A: Your life has everything to do with God because God is infused in the world around you. You do not have to like that but you need to understand that. Do not look at this transfer as punishment, which is what you are doing. Consider it an opportunity to learn about a different perspective in life. It will make you a better person and you will grow from the experience. I know of no Christian school that forces a student to convert to their religion but you must understand the educational philosophy of the school will revolve around their Christian beliefs. A final thought: History involves religion and God an awful lot so you will do well to be able to discuss history in the context of religion which is often not done in public schools.
