Q: catholic school?
why do they wear uniforms? i go to a catholic school. i have to obey the rules, im going to obey the rules. i would just like to know why uniforms have to do with being catholic? nobody has ever given me a consistent answer on this, so please, impress me.
ha almost forgot to add this. the school has just institued a new rule that our pants must be a certain brand. the single company that provides the brand is owned by the catholic church. a couple lights went off in my head when i figured that one out, like something wasnt quite right.
A: It's to keep all the kids on the same level. Everyone dresses the same and should realize everyone is just as good as everyone else. The kids learn to get to know each other and not judge by the clothing someone is wearing.
Also, it keeps the little slutty outfits and the "fad" crap out of the school and helps the kids focus on LEARNING instead of fashion.
It has nothing to do with being Catholic, many kids in Catholic schools are not.
Q: Will a Catholic high school give me a significant boost in college admissions?
The Catholic School: No AP classes, but plenty of honors. Not quite as many options.
The Public School: Tons of APs, ranked by Newsweek as one of the top high schools in the nation.
Also, if I go to the Catholic school I will have to drop one of the languages I am taking (German and Spanish) and take theology.
Normally, I would think the answer was clearly the public school. However, I hear that colleges are more likely to admit Catholic school students because the curriculum at Catholic high schools is harder. Is this true? And which should I choose?
A: Interesting choice. Even though you may have an idea of what to major in, your choice will likely change as you grow as a student over the next four years.
Honestly, AP classes count a great deal, and national rankings count even more - if you're trying to get into a highly competitive school (especially a Public Ivy like Michigan or Illinois). Then again, what counts about the AP isn't the class but the test. You can take an AP or CLEP test regardless of what high school you attend.
I went to a Blue Ribbon public school that sent several graduating seniors to the Ivy League every year. I chose a small, public midwestern liberal arts school (it's had pros and cons).
If you're looking at Catholic universities, I don't want to say they give preference to Catholic high schools, but you'd have to take theology there anyway.
Now that I've thought out loud, I'd say go with the public school - especially if you plan on using your language background and want to test out of some of your freshman year. This will help you save up some money for college, as well as give you a greater breadth of electives.
One of the reasons so many of my public school classmates got into top research schools (Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Bradley) is because they took microbiology as a lab science and a second semester of calculus - neither of which were offered by the smaller Catholic school because they didn't have the critical size to support the courses.
Good luck!
Q: How is Catholic school different to regular school?
I'm switching to a girls Catholic school in january from a regular school. Just wondering how different it is and in what ways.
A: its different because we wear uniforms
theres only girls (if you go to an all girls school like me)
a TON of homework =[
not really a huge difference though i think it all just depends on
wat type of school you are going to go to.
Q: How much does private Catholic elementary school cost per month ?
Hello, my husband is Catholic and we are considering sending our child to private Catholic school when he is old enough to attend. Does anyone have any idea of how much it costs now ? We live in California in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Thanks !
A: It depends on the school. If you check their websites out, they will sometimes have the tuition costs listed. Also, ask if you qualify for scholarships!
Q: How much do you think a 4th grade Catholic school teacher makes per year?
My school particularly, I am in 7th grade. I just want to know how much a 4th grade teacher in a Private Catholic school would make per year. A Private Catholic school in Chicago. My school is a very good school, with a tuition of 12,000 a year.
A: According to the attached pay scale, elementary school teachers in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles make between $31,000 and $55,400 a year depending on education and experience: http://www.archdiocese.la/jobs/schools/pdf/Elementary%20Teacher%20Salary%20Scale%2006-07.pdf
I can't find a similar one for the Archdiocese of Chicago, but you might contact:

Q: Can my daughter go to catholic school when Im not Catholic?
I am seperated from my husband now (who is catholic). I am not catholic but would like my daughter to be able to attend catholic school as the public school in my area is crap. Also, Id like her to learn about her religion so she can make a choice when she gets older. I have the fathers baptismal certificate but I have sole custody and he has no contact so I cannot get him to help with registering her. We are in ontario Canada. Any ideas?
A: I go to a catholic school and I'm not a catholic. You should be fine, but there are some awkward moments when I tell my RE teacher that I don't believe in god! But I suppose I kind of am looking for trouble there lol
Q: Do you HAVE to be Catholic to wear a school uniform?
Well I like school uniforms, and I don't really plan on becoming Catholic or going to a Catholic school...And I live in Toronto. So do you have to be Catholic?
A: No you do not have to be Catholic to wear uniform. It's up to the school. THe reason school have uniforms is because they want kids to be equal and kids won't be concentrating everyday on what is to be worn. Also it keep the dress code enforced.
Q: What are ideas to raise money to go to a catholic school?
I want to go to a catholic school next year and looking for a fundraiser to show to family and friends to raise money.
A: See if the school you're interested in offers Scrip. Scrip is when you buy gift certificates/cards from the school or online, and the school gets a cut of the profits. Some schools will let you use Scrip to reduce the cost of your tuition. Good luck!
Q: Can i send my son to a roman catholic school if we are not catholics?
My three year old will be starting school next year and would like him to go to a certain school.
It happens to be a catholic school but we are not catholics.
It is a five min walk from our house and all others are at least thirty mins some much more.
Is it possible to get a place?
Thanks.
A: Yes.
But nowdays you must pay for it. In the past it was free.
Are there no other private schools close by?
No offense to Catholics, but:
I would not send my child to a catholic school unless the only other choice was public school.
If you are not a Catholic- your child will be, if he attends a Catholic school. If this will be a problem for you- then you should consider the schools farther away. If being a Catholic is not a problem for you- then go for it. They do have very good schools. The "only downside" to a Catholic school is Catholic indoctrination.
In the past, this was the Catholic church's greatest form of evangelism. To provide good free private education. The payoff came years later as many of the non-Catholic children converted to Catholicism. It worked good, but was expensive. Now they charge-but it still works.
Other Christian Schools may not indoctrinate at all towards any particular denomination. The Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Episcopal schools I have seen are non-denominational in their teaching. They provide good academics in a basic Christian atmosphere.
I would think about it. The easiest way is not always the best. However- Catholics schools are excellent academically.
Q: How would you spice up a catholic school girls outfit?
I'm switching schools this next year for my sophmore year and am going to a very prestigious catholic all girls school. The uniforms are, well, exactly what you would expect, haha, VERY bland and boring. I would get some really bright shoes, but we can wear only either plain black maryjane's or plain white lace-up shoes.
How would you guys spice it up a bit and make yourself stand out?
A: wear white it makes it pop out and looks cute, wear chunky bright/white necklaces, where leggings under the skirt, and make the skirt shorter, wear a cute, bright headscarf, and cute hair styles, also layer your shirt with a bright shirt or polo. good luck! :)
Q: Do you have to be Catholic to teach in a Catholic school?
I'm teaching a computer class in a Catholic school for only one hour/day on top of my public school teaching schedule. (I just found out today and school starts next Tuesday.) I'm not Catholic, nor do I go to church. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar situation.
A: Nope. My best friends (husband and wife) taught in a Catholic high school for years. Neither is Catholic. In fact, the husband is atheist.
Both also graduated from a Catholic university. As a joke, one of the priests would fling extra incense smoke and holy water at the husband during required masses.
Q: Anyone ever convert to Catholicism to get lower tuition at a Catholic school?
Transferring my 10th-grade daughter to a parochial school after a horrendous year in the public system. There is no financial aid for non-catholics, and a much higher tuition. Should I join a parish? I am a baptized Episcopalian who doesn't belong to any church now. My daughter attends a protestant church from time to time but is not baptized. I would join a Catholic church if it would help, but I fear they would want so much of my time and money that it would not be a wise trade-off.
A: --Is Catholic--
I suggest that you read the Compendum to the Catechism, which you can buy or read here
http://tinyurl.com/jfuwl
If you enjoy what you have read, then feel free to join the Catholic Church. Your daughter not being baptised would go through RCIA It takes about 9 months to a year to get through RCIA for your daughters age, sometimes more depending on what she knows.
You being a baptised Christian do not go through the RCIA process, but a simmular one that is specificaly tailored to you and where you are in your Christian walk. This will differ from diocese to diocese.
Read about the above here
http://www.catholic.com/library/How_to_Become_a_Catholic.asp
TIME REQUIRE: It took me 4 months to go through the process as a baptized Christian with a few interviews and attending the RCIA classes. It was a small parish so they didn't have the ability to run RCIA and another group separate. I was confirmed a few weeks after Easter. The time commitment is showing up for Mass and taking the Faith seriously.
Some people would say that if you are just doing this for the money, then you shouldn't bother because the faith isn't real. I follow after those that say that all opportunity should be given and that faith grows in the rockiest of soil. So much of Catholicism is about "working out your salvation in fear and trembling" as St. Paul says, so you have got to start someplace. So if you like what the Church teaches and want your daughter to be taught the Catholic faith in a Catholic school, swim the Tiber as they say, and start your pilgrimage.
MONEY: Tithing is not required. Give what you can and what you feel like you should. This is completely a personal decision with the only rule being that you should be mindful of those who are in need and that your parish counts on you.
Peace of Christ Unto You and Your Family!

Q: How much do Catholic School teacher get paid in NJ?
I was wondering if anyone know what the average salary is for a beginning Catholic school teacher. Let me know if you do. Thanks.
A: Do a search for what public school teachers make (many districts have a salary schedule on their website) and then subtract about $5000.
However, some private schools offer tution discounts or free schooling if you bring your children and if this is what you are looking to do, then it may be worth the pay different in tution costs.
Q: Anyone know how to make your kid successful getting in catholic school without catholic reglious background?
I want to put my kid in a catholic school nearby but the school staff asked if my kid is the catholic or not? None of my family is catholic, how to raise my kid's chance to get into the school?
A: Depens on what school it is you are more then welcome to send your kids to a catholic school but honstly you will pay more It all depens on how much you are willing to spend for your sons education there is of course finaincal aid usually it comes from the parish supporting the school again it all depens on the school
