Q: What is your opinion on the soda ban in California schools?
Last year the governor passed a bill banning the sales of sodas in all public schools in the state of California. Do think this was right? Why or why not? (If you want to, please add your grade if you are in school or add your state. Don't worry, I'm no sicko, this is totally voluntary. I just want to see what kind of people I'm dealing with, thanks!)

A: Awesome! I think it's great! Soda is so bad for you. Just this week a study came out linking osteoporosis and cola. And all that sugar is bad for our teeth, let alone our bodies. The less exposure we have the better!

Q: I would like to start an agency providing SLP services to schools in California. How?
I would like to start an agency providing SLP services to California. schools. What are the licenses requirements and so on.....

A: Ask CDE what their expectations would be of such an organization

Q: Does the California State lottery give money to California schools?
It seems that since they started in 1984, The schools in my area has been losing programs ever since. Does anyone know the % if they do give?

A: 34.6% of each lottery sale goes to education. Ask your state legislature to raise taxes for schools.

Q: Which University of California schools average your SAT scores?
I've heard that some schools look at your highest total score, some take the highest in each subject, and some average all SAT scores. I'm mostly concerned about the last kind of schools, which UC and/or CSU schools average all scores? Does this mean that I should take the December SAT to improve my average? It would be my 3rd SAT reasoning test this year and 4th reasoning test ever.

A: Colleges average your SAT Tests after the 3rd try, so yes, if you take it in December, they will average ALL of your scores. Specific to UC's, they take your best SAT Day/Sitting. They don't take the best from each subject, just your highest overall total.

Q: what are some of the more affordable medical schools in california?
I'd like to go to medical school to become a doctor, but my family doesnt have a lot of money. Right now i'm attending a 4 yr college and paying 44,000 a year for tuition. Most of the cost is covered in loans, so when i graduate i will owe a shitload. I need to know of some of the less expensive medical schools here in california. Can u guys give me specific names of schools?

A: Wow, well if you are a California resident, it is pretty inexpensive compared to other colleges. University of California (all 3--Los Angeles, San Diego, AND San Fransisco!) costs a little under 19,000. U of C Davis costs 35,065 for both resident and nonresident. U of C Irvine costs 22,821. Less than 19 is great. I would be pretty happy if I were you. 19 is a deal compared to other medical schools. I agree with the above comment. When it comes to cost, don't worry about it. However, if cost is a priority, keep the 3 mentioned above as your top priorities. Financial aid is liberal in medical school.

Q: Is it possible to double major in both music and biology at UC or California schools such as UC Berkley or US?
Schools that I am looking at include UC Berkely, UCLA, USC, and UCSD.

A: As the answer above me has stated, yes it is possible. However, when thinking about a double major, it would be much less stressful to do it in two subjects that at least have something in common. Music and Biology don't have anything in common, and I am assuming you wish to do music because it's for a passion, not necessarily because you envision yourself making music for the rest of your life. Nevertheless, I would suggest that you major in Bio, and minor in Music. You still get the music, but you're not too stressed out from taking two majors.

Q: Does anyone know any good schools in California for the Entertainment industry?
As soon as I turn 18 I plan to go to a college or university in the states in California. I'm looking to get into the media and entertainment field. I'd like to go into the talk show field or anchoring or journalism on celebrities and things in that nature. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say, LOL. Anyways, if you know any great schools in California that spealize in this field, please help me out! Thanks!

A: The University of Southern California has one of the best film schools in the world.

Q: How many SAT reasoning scores can you report for the University of California schools?
On the online application, there is only room to report one test. Is there a way to add scores from a second test?

A: No... you have to pick the test upon which you did best. The UC's do not superscore (ie.. best from each section). Sorry, its one test date only.

Q: Who is to blame for all the Teachers being cut In California schools and all the students suffering from this
Im Just mad because Teachers people who help us get our Education are getting cut, and good classes and fun classes are getting cut were is the Justice in that. How Much is California in mony wise in trouble.

A: Well I live In CA and work with in with a school district. Right now many districts have have been feeling the the pitch. I have many friends the districts near by that are in special ed that were afraid they were going to be pinked. It just shows you how bad it can get when they start talking about pinking people in special ed. Even though these are people that they would bring back next year. The issue is that Arnold will not raise taxes to bring the budget to a balance so he is cutting programs. The reason that education is low is because of the prop. that was passed years ago the made it so we could not get more money. He wants the areas to pass a parcel tax. Obviously Harleigh Kyson Jr. just wanted to make a rant about the republican party than to really respond the the question at hand since this person didn't really mention the crisions in CA and only really talked about how he hate republicans and dicussed stuff going on on the national level.

Q: What are the best law schools in California?
I have a brother who wants desperately to become a lawyer in California but neither he nor the rest of my family knows which schools he should be applying to aside from San Francisco University and UCLA. Thank you for your time.

A: 1. Stanford 2. Berkeley (Boat Hall) 3. UCLA 4. USC (Gould) (swaps rankings with UCLA all the time) 5. UC Davis (King Hall) 6. UC Hastings ----- - above schools are First Tier 7. Loyola Marymount (Los Angeles area) 8. Pepperdine 9. Santa Clara 10. Univ. of San Francisco 11. Univ. of Pacific (McGeorge law School) -------- - above group is Second Tier below that, well, going there is more a matter of being accepted to any law school than any prestige thing.

Q: If I want to take the bar exam in California, should I only consider law schools in California?
I take the LSAT in December and I plan on going to law school in the fall of 2008. I currently reside in California and would like to practice law here after I graduate. But I'm also considering many law schools outside of California, may of them being on the East Coast. However, I was wondering, if I plan on taking the bar exam in California, would it be more beneficial for me to go to law school in California or does it not really matter where I go as long as I attend a good law school? FYI - I'm interested mainly in intellectual property rights in regards to information technology and biotechnology, as well as environmental law.

A: If you go to law school in California, then you would be a bit better prepared to take the CA bar exam, because the school would, at least in certain courses, teach the law of that state. However, in the field of law, the reputation of the school you attend is very important to your future career. If you want to work for the top law firms, or get those competitive positions, you need to go to a top law school. If the best law school you can get is out of state, so be it. Likewise the fit of the school is very important. Some law schools have cut throat environments, while others are less so. Some offer the majors you want, and others do not. If the best school for you is in Massachusetts, go there. You can get the knowledge specific to CA law via other means. So: 1) Reputation of school 2) Fit 3) Location. Go to the best reputed law school you can, and one which is the best fit for you. Those two things are of primary importance, and take precedence over whether or not the school is in California.

Q: what are the best art schools in california?
What are some top rated art schools in california? i live in Los angelesbut I want to live in san francisco. I am a sophmore in high school and an aspiring artist. what schools are best for art. it could be anywhere but preferably san francisco. i know about the academy of arts but many say they are overrated.

A: The Art Institute has several campuses, including San Francisco. I recommend visiting one of them before you apply. Also check out the more prestigious Art Institute of Pasadena or Cal Arts of Valencia. Other schools include California College of the Arts (SF & Oakland) and Otis College (LA). The school that is best for you really depends on what you want to do. Visit the web sites to learn what programs they have, then visit if you can. Art school is very costly so be sure that's what you really want to do because everyone leaves with art school heavily in debt (like $100k or more). My friend went to FIDM and worked for a bit in the industry but then back to school for a different degree. Another went to Art Institute and freelances it to this day. There are ways to reduce the cost, by doing Gen Eds at a community college (or marrying someone who works there for staff discount), but an art school provides the intense studio time you need to develop your skills and create a nice portfolio for when you're ready to work. Not to mention the teachers might have some good connections.

Q: What California schools can I get into with these stats?
Cumulative GPA: 3.18 SAT: 1640 [I think my personal statement is pretty good. It was featured in the LA Times] I know it's not the best, but I really want to go to college. What are my chances at any the following schools: Berkeley UC Santa Barbara UC San Diego Cal State San Diego Stanford

A: Going by what's listed on www.collegeboard.com... Berkeley: GPA's too low and your SATs should be at least around a 1900 UC Santa Barbara- GPA's still a bit low but a better fit, SATs look like a good fit, on the lower end of the spectrum but still in UC San Diego- GPA's in between Berkeley and Santa Barbara, too low but not as much of a reach as with Berkeley, for the SATs, yours are a little under but not a major stretch Cal State San Diego- (if you're talking about what's called San Diego STate University on collegeboard) GPA's a good fit, SATs are good, on the middle/upper end of the spectrum Stanford- Sorry but no way. GPA should be around a 3.6 at the very least, and SATs around 2000 minimum, and even then it'd be a stretch. Of course your essay and extracurriculars factor in but it looks like you should add some safeties to the list and if you want to go to Stanford that badly, you can apply and see, but that and Berkeley are really long shots, not trying to sound negative here but just realistic. Good luck with everything, hope this helped and i wasn't trying to sound mean
