Q: Boarding School?
I'm moving to a new place. I already applied for a private co-ed day school but didnt get in, so I'm trying out a new school--an all girls boarding and day school. the education is excellent, and I think if I went I could definintely get into the college I want to. however, my parents think I'd have a better chance at getting into this school if I go in the 9th grade--in which case I have to board there for a year until my parents come down and I can start going to day school there. I'm terribly afraid of it though, i'd miss EVERYTHING. moving is one thing, boarding school is another! Should i take this chance or stay here for another year and try for this school in 10th grade. please help!
A: i think you should take your chance with this school, you can always call them, and it is only for a year
Q: Boarding School Students: How often are you accounted for during a typical 24 hour period?
How much flexibility does a single-gender boarding school student have for sneaking off? Other than classes, are there room checks? Meal checks?
Thanks.
A: It varies by school of course. There's a check at breakfast, a check by each teacher in each class, a check at lunch, a check at sports, a check at study hall(s), a check at dinner, and a check at lights out. So it's around 15 checks per day (but only the morning and evening checks are formal "check-ins"; every other check is done automatically by the teacher or coach). And that's considered a low to medium level of strictness. Some boarding schools I've heard of are much more strict, with constant supervision.
If you're boarding school is in an isolated area there's little point in sneaking out, but if there's a town or city nearby the best time is always at night (maximum risk of expulsion however), or during the weekends when teachers are distracted. Weekends are usually the best time, with the least risk of expulsion being if you are caught during the day. When caught at night sneaking out, it's basically "pack your bags." Best of luck.
Q: What are the benefits of going to a boarding school?
i've been having some issues, and i've always wanted to go to a boarding school and my parents might be looking into a boarding school for me in high school for maybe a year or two. what are the benefits of boarding schools? and disadvantages? i thought i'd look into it and see if it's really something i might condsider.
and also; anyone know good boarding schools in the East?
A: Boarding School is a great experience! You make awesome friends who live all over the world. THe education i usually excellent. If you ever have a question about a project, test, or homework most of the teachers live on the school grounds, so you can just go to there houses and talk to them face to face. Living so close to each other you build friendships that will be there for the rest of you life. The disadvantages... if you go to school far from home there is the cost of flying back and forth during breaks. If you are really attached to your parents, boarding school is a great way to break that, but it might be scary for the first few days. Don't worry you meet friends and you never think about your parents.
Q: How can I afford to go to boarding school? What is the cheapest boarding school out there?
I am currently in grade 9 in Toronto and I got some pretty decent grades (90% average). I really wish to attend a boarding school but a serious problem is the costs. Is there any way to afford it?
A: You could afford to go to a boarding school either by taking a loan or through scholarship. Many schools offers merit awards and need-based scholarships. These scholarship could cover a significant portion of tuition depending on the school and eligibility. Since you have got good grades scholarship might not be a problem for you. Another way of affording a boarding school is prepGATE k-12 Loan Program. To learn more about the loan program you could go to:

Q: I want to start my own boarding school, how do I start planning that?
As my question states I want to start planning to own boarding school. I need someone (or multiple people) to point me in the right dirrection. I have general ideas about how things should go as well as dress code, classes, and such things. I really need help with designing the lay out of the school and legal matters I should be aware of. I really need some advice but I would also like someone (or mulitple people) who can work with me with layout plans, research and the buesiness side of things.
A: Try talking to a reputable boarding school and see how they do it
Q: Is there a boarding school like pacific coast academy on Zoey 101 that is not disiplinary?
I just want to know if there is a boarding school that instead of being for kids that need "guidance" it is a fun school like PCA on the nick show Zoey 101?
A: This is a real boarding school.

Q: What's the difference between boarding school and high school?
Do they have summer vacations at boarding school?
Do they live there at boarding school?
Anything similiar between the 2?
My BFF is going to boarding school and I'd like to know how it's like.
Are they allowed to go home during vacations?
Are they allowed to have cell phones?
sorry for all the questions :(
A: Yes, there are differences. One 'boards' at a boarding school. In other words, one lives there during the school year. Boarding schools do have summer vacations, and intersession vacations, etc., etc.
Q: How do I find a good therapeutic boarding school for my 13 year old son?
He's out of control--staying out late at nights, using drugs and alcohol, hanging out with the wrong kids, defying parental authority and skipping school. His mother and I have decided that a boarding school that provides therapy, a regular schedule, plenty of exercise and positive morals is the best option at this time. Where do we start and what questions should we ask? There are a lot of websites and it's hard to determine what to believe.
A: Hmm. Maybe speaking to some therapists or rehab centers (the people in charge) could help give you some options for them. Maybe even school officials (private and public) could help.
Defiantly do your research first though! Take a tour of the ones you end up considering. You don't want to send him to something that's borderline correctional facility/military school. That's the last thing he needs right now. Sending an already rebelling child into a situation where you're told, 'Do this or else!' is just going to make them rebel more. A nice scheduled school, but one that still leaves the kids options, is a great choice. Make sure there's some fun too. If not, your child will get so bored, and lonely that he'll resort to unhealthier activities (like now), or try to run away.
Q: In a private boarding school, when and how are pupils allowed to leave school grounds?
Do their guardians have to sign some slip? Do the students have to sign themselves out? Do the students have a curfew time to be back in their dorm rooms? When a student comes back to school grounds, how do school employees know they have returned?
I'd just like some information on boarding schools and how they work.
I'm just looking for in a general sense. I don't need specifics, but just what would happen in 'most' boarding schools.
A: like some schools depending on location allow their students to leave within a certain rage (ex: go to stores down the road, go to a restaurant or cafe) and the student just need to write it in the house log saying when and where they are going and what time they left. and then sign back in when they return. all boarding schools have some form of curfews, whether that all students need to be back at this time for study hall, this time in the dorm, or at this time in their rooms... like on weekends some places make 10 or 11 pm their curfew. typically you only need guardians signatures for taxi/ public transportation permission, overnight/ trip permission to go with friends and their parents... but to go anywhere where a guardians signature was needed before you can go there are usually rules that you have to clear it with a house adviser or dean before. teachers/ advisers know when a student returns on campus because either they have shown up for curfew or have written it in the log... if you don't ask for permission or log out you can get in serious trouble.
plus the teachers and advisers keep an eye out for their students
Q: What kind of parents send their children to boarding school?
I'm trying to get an idea of the demographic of students at boarding school. Are those schools expensive, or do they have stellar education - why do parents send their kids there?
Thanks.
A: Rich ones. These schools are very expensive. Yes they do have very good education programs. They also teach more specific education. More foreign languages, etiquette, and strong discipline. Most children who go to a boarding school are also more likely to study abroad later in life. Some people send their children to boarding schools for the added discipline, others want a more formal education. Some unfortunanlty just don't want to bothered with the time it takes to raise a child.
Q: How do I find a boarding school or a private school?
need to get my daughter into a boarding school or a private school. She wants to go to school, but doesn't like the public ones. I tried talking to her about online high school, but she wants to go to school. We llive in Minnesota right now. So can anyone help me?
A: If you want a good private AND boarding school, do a search on Yahoo...
Do you want a boarding school close to home for her to stay during the week and return on the weekends?
Do you want an all week boarding school for her to stay until each school break, such as Thanks giving, Christmas, Spring Break ? I know of a very good private boarding school in Pennsylvania: Check out http://www.grier.org
Q: What are the most elite high school boarding schools?
I'm 14, and I'm going to high school next year. I was thinking about going to a boarding school in the east coast to pursue my IVY league college goal. Any suggestions?
A: And what do your parents think about this,? after all they are the ones that will have to pay.
Q: Starting a boarding school and finding someone to support the idea money wise?

I've been looking into going to a private boarding school for high school, Groton School, specifically.
