Q: Is anyone familiar with the Harmony Science Academy schools?
Should I be concerned that the founders, heads of the school, etc. are all from Turkey? Is there any Islamic values being snuck in at the schools?

A: i dunno but my dadz gunna make me go there =[

Q: Has anyone had any experience with Connections Academy Schools? If so, what is your opinion on it?
I have attended this school, and wondered what other people's overall opinion of this school is. Thanks.

A: Terrible. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There are no phone calls to assess students progress/concerns from the so called teachers as said in the description - 6 months later, still waiting, there is no room for extra credit, not all assessments reach the intended ''teacher'', test that are complete on the students end show up blank on teachers end resulting in a zero, live lessons are few and far between-They take little breaks to get their tea kettle off the burner, or stop to say they need to actually open the damn book in order to answer a question. Live lessons aren't a big help, they only conduct them because they're required to. The student and learning coach are basically left on their own to figure out lessons. There isn't any ''real'' instruction, certainly not fair to the student. The ''teachers'' are merely advisors, nothing more. Questions are allowed to be submitted by email or phone... but we were told by the teachers that emailed questions aren't answered as quickly as phone calls, sometimes days - or never. We're based in one state, the computer thinks we're in another state, and the PE ''teacher'' is from a totally different state. The parents work harder at gathering and sending in the initial paperwork to enroll a student than the ''teachers'' end up doing helping -or checking on - a student. There isn't any teacher student relationship. If you're looking for an alternative to traditional school, keep looking.

Q: Where can I verify a home schools accreditation? The school is Heritage Home School Academy.?
They say their accredited but I want to know how I find out who their accredited by and where can I check it out?

A: I looked around their site, and I didn't see anything about their accreditation; from everything I saw, they are under the umbrella of School of Tomorrow, which is a section of Accelerated Christian Education. This is a company that works by PACEs, which are little workbooks that you work through each subject, about one PACE per month. That's really all there is to the curriculum - it says that on average you will complete 70 little workbooks per year. It looks like Heritage is just a supplier of PACEs, though they will keep records for you of how many are completed each year. Quite frankly, you can do this for free with a notebook or Excel spreadsheet, or tracking software that you can download off the internet. I also found it interesting that while Heritage charges you $39.95 for the "Quick Start Kit", ACE/School of Tomorrow only charges you $19.95 for the exact same thing...hmm. http://www.aceministries.com/homeschool/Default.aspx A facet of School of Tomorrow is accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA), the info can be found here. http://www.aceministries.com/aboutus/accredit.aspx Heritage states that they use a "nationally recognized curriculum" and the accreditation seems to come from the company that produces that curriculum. My honest advice - and take it for whatever it is - this one isn't worth your time. All they are offering you, as far as I can see, is a bunch of workbooks that most kids don't even find all that interesting, and the ability to keep track of workbooks that your kids finish. IMO, that's not worth paying somebody for. There are much more interactive curricula out there that are more worth your time. But, like I said, that's just my opinion...do with it what you will :-) Hope that helped, though!

Q: Are typically all private schools and academy's nonprofit?
Could you explain the difference between the two institutes? I am speaking of the k-12 private schools.

A: No. They are for profit: even if designated non-profit for tax purposes, donations benefit donator's own childrenm so this is hardly non-profit as in benefit the general public. Additionally, they have no obligation to provide any information regarding any child to any legal guardian of the child. They may expel any child for any reason at any time, including due to parent/legal gurdian questioning any decisions regarding any child, including rearranging childrens' schedules/teachers, etc for their own profit motives.

Q: I want to do a Masters in Interior Design in Italy and I found 2 schools Florence Design Academy and?
Accademia Italiana in Florence, can anyone tell me which is better? Also are there any better schools in Europe for a Masters Degree in Interior Design?

A: In my opinion the FDA is a good choice. Additionally the teaching is in english. This is not usual in Italy. If you are an international student this is perfect. Also the italian and florentine culture can influence you positivly, especially for the incredible interior architecture in Florence.

Q: Sociology Essay : education, Academy schools Blairs Initatives?
Sociology Essay : education, Academy schools Blairs Initatives Question Details: Do you think its okay to use extracts from socialist worker online, properly harvard referenced just some good stuff there or would it be classed as to extreme

A: Certainly, Socialist Worker material is left wing extreme. Don't know what your tutor would think? However, Academy Schools are controversial; funded under the infamous Private Finance Initiative and some of them already failing: Ref: South Leeds Academy threatened with special measures because of truancy levels and very low GCSE results at C or above. Good luck. Should you be thinking about Sociology essays on a Saturday night?

Q: The Morningstar Academy, and other Virtual High Schools.?
What are your experiences with virtual schools? I'm just curious. I'm going to be homeschooling through the Morningstar Academy.. Annyone have any tips or pointers? Thanks!

A: I'm fifteen and a Junior - I've done a year and a half total in Richard Mckenna, an online high school, and am currently enrolled in IDVA, another online high school. I find it's quite a bit easier than regular homeschooling or public school, both of which I've tried. With online school your assignments are 'set in stone,' which isn't something you get quite as much with homeschooling, and they're also much faster to complete, which isn't something you get in public school. You can work ahead and sort through information quickly, and check previous assignments to review new elements. It's also much easier to work on your own time. You read through the instructions, skip the parts that are unnecessary or apply to other people, and then immediately get to work writing or researching - both things done on the computer. It's extremely convenient and it eliminates the time it takes for your teacher to explain, re-explain, shush the class clowns, pass out the paperwork, etc. But there are negative aspects as well. If there is a technical problem you can easily fall behind. Depending on which system you're using, it might take a while to figure it out. There might be aspects of the school program that you don't understand or that you figure out when it's too late. Also, on the computer you can easily get distracted by games or friends. But overall I would say the good greatly outweighs the bad, and I would recommend it as the best form of education.
