Q: Schools?!?
I watch Zoey 101, despite what Jamie Lynn has done. I love the way their school is set up. Are boarding schools actually like that, and if so, what are a few boarding schools like that?
A: No schools are like PCA, go to a real boarding school.

Q: What schools are the best for pre medical students and how importance is university rank when choosing?
Hey. I'm graduating from high school next year in May and so I will start applying to colleges this year in the fall. I want to go into medicine but I'm not sure what colleges/universities I should be looking at. I live in Maryland and I want to stay on the East Coast. I would preferably like to go to New York. What are some good schools I can go to. I want to go to NYU but im not sure if I can get in. How important is a universities rank for fturue med students. I just want to make sure I pick a good school to provide me with the best experience and services since medical school is so challenging. I know I'm just going into pre med but I want to get off to a good start. PLEASE HELP.
A: Considering where you at Johns Hopkins pre med and medical school is top in the country. With the lowering of standards in all medical programs due to a trough in medical school applicants, a solid science pre med program at any solid University would work with a good GPA, core courses, and of course an excellent MCAT score. Throw some good activities, and organizational memeberships and you should be alright.
Q: What is the difference between alternative schools and special schools?
Many people always assume that only special needs students go to alternative schools when it's not true. Isn't it against the "least restrictive environment" to send special needs students to the alternative school? Shouldn't they go to a special school since it meets their needs? Alternative schools don't support special needs students well. They don't have speech or self-contained classes. What kind of parent would send their own special needs child to the alternative school that doesn't even meet their needs? The special school would be more appropriate.
I thought alternative schools were schools that were nontraditional. I thought they provided a choice for students. Students aren't forced to go to alternative schools. It's something that they chose hence the name.
A: You are correct with your statement that parents with a special needs child should NOT send their child to an alternative school.
Alternative schools are for those children that are at an impass and the public school system is looking for a way to put that child out of their school system. They explain it to the parents as a "way of helping their child" when in reality, it helps them...the school. The school will earn an A grade because they have less "special education" students in their school, who may not pass all the state tests...ie: FCATS.
Special needs students should be placed in the public schools and have IEPs in place that met all the childs individual needs, as documented by their parents, teachers, physicians and social workers, physical therapist, speech therapists etc.
Great question. Blessings, Patti
Q: What liberal arts schools have a good archeology/anthropology program?
I've been looking for schools with good archeology/anthropology programs, but all of them seem to be huge school types, except for maybe some of the Ivies. I seem to like the liberal arts schools best though, from the schools i've gone to. I really like the atmosphere at those school, but i don't want to sacrifice a good academic experience for a better social experience. Can anyone help me out?
A: Mercyhurst College in Erie Pennsylvania

Q: What school/schools in California are good schools to get an undergrad business degree?
Please don't start saying UCLA UC Berkeley and Stanford and all that. Other schools please!
neniaf.. what rankings?
i mean business course overall.
i know there are concentrations like marketing and accounting and all that. UCs do offer that.
A: So... you want good schools, but you don't want good schools?
I think you better skip the business degree and memorize that supersizing is an extra 35 cents.
Q: What San Francisco Schools give students laptops to use during the year in school and to take home?
What San Francisco Schools give students laptops to use during the year in school and to take home? Not Universities, but Elementary, Middle or High School. Thanks
A: The Urban school is one of two high schools in SF that fully support 1:1 apple laptops. I don't know of the second HS, and I believe there to be atleast one middle school, perhaps someone else knows the names.
Q: What schools should i be considering if i want to be a dermatologist?
I am a senior in high school in Illinois, and my time has come to find a school right for me. I want to become a dermatologist but I have no idea what schools i should be looking into and/or what classes i should take for undergraduate and if it even matters? What other things should i know?
A: It doesn't matter what college you go for your undergraduate degree as long as you fulfill the premedical requirements. Almost every school offers a pre-med program, so your choice of school should be where you're interested in going, whether it be a state school or a prestigious private school. If you're interested in majoring in science, you might want to see which schools have strong biology or chemistry departments, but you can major in something else and then apply to medical schools as well. It would be beneficial for you to take some AP or advanced level science, math, and English classes because these will help you in college and show colleges that you can handle challenging classes.
One more thing, if you're absolutely sure that you want to become a dermatologist, you should consider applying to guaranteed BA/MD programs where you can get admission to medical school from high school. You get a bachelor's degree and then your MD degree, so you're not starting with medical school right away lol. Although you can't change your mind you can avoid the stress of MCATs and the application process for medical school. hope this helps! http://services.aamc.org/currdir/section3/degree2.cfm?data=yes&program=bsmd
Q: What kind of requirements do schools have to meet regarding their library?
My school is a small rural school in Northeast Kansas. In the last few months the library at my school has been closed due to lack of a librarian. There seems to be priorities higher on the list that literacy. I was wondering what the rules are regarding libraries in schools. My school library is open for a few hours a couple days a week but its not often and we aren't usually allowed in there and are never allowed to check out books.
A: Sorry to hear about losing the librarian and not being able to check out books. I would contact the Kansas Department of Education and see what they can tell you regarding the regulations of having a librarian. Here is their webpage: http://www.ksbe.state.ks.us/ .
Sometimes even having another librarian from another school or district "oversee" a parent/volunteer will be enough to allow the library to be open for use. Good luck!
Q: What are the best schools to get a bachelors from in order to attend Harvard Medical school?
I want to apply to Harvard Med School but obviously need to get my bachelors first. I also know that certain schools pull more rank than others. What schools would be best to consider for my undergraduate in order to have the best chance at Harvard Med.
A: Honestly, your best chances of going to Harvard Medical School is acing all of your classes, acing the MCAT, doing tons of research (Harvard likes research), and do lots of extracurricular activities. Oh, and some luck and good fortune. Your undergraduate school won't mean squat if you don't do well. But as someone else mentioned, Harvard isn't even the best medical school. Johns Hopkins and Mayo on the other hand....
Good luck!
Q: What is the best way to make Public schools more equitable acroos state lines?
You see it all the time one school has better schools than the other one state is better than the other. It is harder to become a teacher in NY than in South Carolina. Should we make schooling be controlled and have a consistant curriculum regardless of state or locality. Should certification to teach be done by the Federal government and not the states. Should the federal government be required to set graduation standards for high school and proficency levels in middle and elementary school. I think it would be better for children who live in poor areas have to have the same tough coursework as those in rich area's. This is only for public schools not private.
A: A big diffrence is caused by taxes. No state taxes the same for education expenses the same and this is reflected in thier education levels.
Q: What schools should I apply to for graduate neuroscience?
Non-US medical doctor here. I want to apply to grad school to major in Neurosciece in the US. I got a 790 (math) and 560 (verbal) on the GRE. I have good research experience with one first author publication in a US journal. Excellent recommendation letters. Humble GPA (3.0).
What sort of schools do I have a good chance of being accepted at?
A: It really depends where you want to go. Try a CSU or UC.
Q: How many schools are usually in a school district?
Does a school district usually include just 1 school or many schools. My school district has 5 high schools and like 10 elementary schools - please tell me about yours. Thanks in advance.
A: The school district I graduated from in PA had 2 high schools, 3 middle schools, and probably like 8 or so elementary schools. And that was for the entire county. Now, I teach in Ohio and the school district is made up of one high school, one middle school, and three elementary schools. It basically serves just one town and the surrounding farm land. The size just all depends on the population and how large an area the school district is serving.

Q: What schools would you recommend to ultimately become a psychiatrist?
I'm in high school, and I am considering careers. I would appreciate if those of you who have entered this field would share what schools you attended and your recommendations.
A: To become a psychiatrist, you have to enter medical school. So, that's 4yrs of college, 4yrs of med school, and 4 yrs of residency.
It's not that important which school you attend. Just earn high GPA, do well in MCAT, and do some leadership position in a club or a job, or even volunteer with anything healthcare related.
