Q: State Colleges?
are State Colleges good?
what are some good ones for early childhood education?
i live in Boston MA
A: You can get a good quality education at a state college, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! That being said, you should check individual colleges for their graduation rates in your major of early childhood education, and also look to see graduation rates for their graduate programs. Most states are now requiring a Master's degree for K-12 so be sure to keep that in mind as well.
MA has a good state college system. I know several people who went to Salem State and Westfield State and went on to teach in the Massachusetts public school system.
Q: Are there any private colleges that transfer credits to state universities? ?
Can anyone tell me some good community, technical, or private colleges that have transferable credits to state colleges/universities? I have been reading a little bit about JCC. Are there any other schools? I would like to go to a school that can help me get into a good university, but I do not want to have to redo credits that I already earned.
I live in Louisville, Kentucky.
A: Sure, but there is no universal answer to this question. Schools have what are called articulation agreements with other schools. You can request a copy of an articulation agreement between schools to see what exactly will transfer and as what. Many times, you can just find these on the school's website.
Q: why does it cost more to attend out of state colleges different from the state that you live in?
why does it cost some much more to attend out of state colleges, if you dont live in that state? for example i live in new york but wanted to go to tennesse state why does it cost more? and does finanical aid cover all colllege expenses?
A: The states try to push education in their state. If it is cheaper to stay in-state, then more kids will take that route. For instance, University of Kentucky gets many kids from Michigan and New Jersey since their in-state is higher than UK's out-of-state tuition. Financial aid doesn't nearly cover all the costs of college, unless you get a full ride.
Advice: Talk to your financial advisor at the school you wish to attend. They are assigned to you once you are accepted. They should be able to answer many of your questions, and help you find scholarships for those fees that still exist.
Good Luck!!!
Q: what out of state colleges should i consider?
Im applying to colleges this fall and want to have the option of going out of state.
I want to live in a big city, that is near some body of water and mountains so i can go snowboarding. REALLY cold winters are a plus but not a necessity.
any recommendations?! or even schools in the city?
A: to the person who answered above me- amherst is NOT in a city. it's in a cute, teeny tiny little town about 2 hours from boston.
there are upward of 100 schools in boston, though, and clearly there is proximity to mountains and the atlantic. i go to BC, but there's also BU, emerson, northeastern, tufts, brandeis, MIT, and harvard, to name just a few.
Q: Where can I find New Jersey state regulations as they pertain to food services provided at state colleges?
I'm looking to find out what kinds of regulations the state of New Jersey has put it place that regulate what types of things can and cannot be served in a public educational institution, such as a State College. Is there a certain diet that the state recommends/mandates? Please provide sources.
A: I can't find any regulations or 'mandates' where the state orders certain foods to be served or not served. I honestly don't see why the state would have to dictate that, rather than allowing the universities to do it themselves. After all, students are adults, and capable of making their own decisions regarding eating habits. All the state or schools can do is attempt to educate students on healthy habits. They can't force students to only eat healthy food, for instance.
The Rutgers Food Services website explains things like the food pyramid, vegetarian options, etc., but does not state that any foods are required or prohibited. If you want more info, check out the links below.
Q: Are state colleges tuition free in California for residents?
Are the state colleges in California free to attend for residents? Also, how long must one live in California to be considered a resident for this purpose?
Any one have a link to a form that I can fill out for a community college to have the tuition waved. I plan to move to California and want to know how long I would have to live there before I am eligible for the tuition waiver.
Found the residency requirements here:
http://www.sjcc.edu/AdmissionsRecords/Residency.shtml. Thanks guys.
A: No. I wish. In fact, tuition has been increasing and our governor would like to raise them even more.
Q: What are the top Massachusetts State Colleges?
Being in the military I can attend any state college for free. What are the top ones. I have been considering Umass Dartmouth.
Buzzy I thought MIT and Harvard were private?
A: UMass Amherst is the best UMass school. It's one of the top schools in the country.
Yes, MIT and Harvard are private.
Q: What makes you are resident in a state as far as colleges are concerned.?
I live in california but I want to go to go to school in Illinois where my dad is a relalive. He pays taxes, so doesnt that mean I should be able to go to their state schools? Do I really have to attend high school in that state? If I were to move to illinois for the last couple months of highschool (maybe 6 months and graduate there) would that be long enough for me to be considered a resident and only have to pay resident fees for Illinois state colleges?
A: A student's residence is presumed to be that of the parent(s) or legal guardian unless the student is independent and establishes a separate residence.
In order to be classified as a resident for tuition purposes, an independent student must be a bona fide resident for at least six (6) months immediately preceding the first scheduled day of classes for the term for which residency is sought.
Q: Is there any state colleges that are accepting applications for fall?
I live in Ca and applied to San Jose state but I fuck up and now I have to wait till spring to get in. I wanted to know what my options are, Wheather that be Internet univeresities exc. I am currently going into my fourth year, and am all finished with my G.E.
A: Your use of profanity is not acceptable.
And the answer is yes.
.
Q: What is the difference between state colleges/universities and private colleges/universities?
Are state universities like CSUN, and everything that starts with CSU? (the public universities?)
and
Are private universities like UCLA, UCSB, UCBerkely(the hard ones to get into)>?
A: UCLA, UCSB and UCB are all state universities. UC means University of California = state. And CSU means California State University = state. The difference is that public universities (state ones) are a lot less expensive if you live in the state. Privates are usually more expensive, and most are affiliated with a religion. Some Privates: Harvard, Stanford, USC.
Also, "hard" isn't based on if it's private/public. Just depends on the school.
Q: DOES ANYONE KNOW A LiST OF FLORIDA STATE COLLEGES?
Does anyone know a list or know of a website with a list of Florida STATE Colleges (and universities). I need to know because I have free tuition to any STATE college in florida, my dad has paid monthly for it since i was born.
Thank you for your help!
Remember, they can only be STATE colleges, not private
Thanks again for your help!
A: http://www.flbog.org/aboutsus/universities/
Q: Are private colleges better than state colleges?
I think the Ivy League schools and private schools are better than state schools where anyone can get in and many of the students are distractions who party all the time and drink too much. If you look at the most crime ridden schools and the biggest party schools, they are public universities. If I went to college, I would want peace and quiet and be around rich and well mannered, upper class people. But with a 3.5 GPA, which is low, I don't see a future in any of the Ivy League's or at many private universities.
A: It depends on what you're looking for. Major, location, degree, activities, sports, clubs, financial aid, campus size, population, gender - these are all factors that are taken into account when choosing a college. You're view toward state colleges is quite immature and narrow-minded. Yes, some public schools are party schools, but not all! Have you heard of College of William and Mary, Miami University at Oxford,University of California system,University of Michigan, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Texas at Austin, University of Vermont, University of Virginia, Penn State? These are all public school which have been ranked among the best public institutions to get into, also known as "Public Ivy" institutions. Maybe if you would have done some research, you would be more accepting toward public institutions. I was accepted into a private institution, but found myself going to a public one instead because I did my research and chose based on what I wanted in a school! I do not regret it.
Q: How Does a 16 year old go to out-of-state colleges ?
How does a 16 year old who skipped grades go to an out of state college at the same age without his/her parents ? Isn't that child not legal yet so how can he/she leave out of state? I'm wondering because I have a niece.who's going to be skipped and wondering if she can go to an out-of state college at 16?
A: I don't understand your question. It's not illegal in the US for a teenager to live apart from her parents.
I started at an out-of-state college before I turned 18. My family had to fill out one extra form--I believe it related to their giving consent for any medical care I needed at the campus health center. We had no real issues or problems.
I lived in a dorm that year, as my school required for freshmen; someone under 18 would need a co-signer to rent an off-campus apartment, but that would surely be true of most freshmen anyway for reasons of income and credit.
Skipping grades is pretty common, and the kind of students who skip grades are likely to jet off to out-of-state colleges upon graduation. This is not an unusual situation, and not a big deal.
Q: California state colleges won't allow those who have taken classes from a christian standpoint to inroll??
A friend tells me that california state colleges won't allow people who have had read or been tought by classes that take a christian stand point... Is this true?? Is tehre some sort of article saying that?
A: That's absurd. If that were true, no one from a private parochial high school would get in. I'm fairly certain it's not true.
Q: Anyone know any private, community or state colleges in the US that have Video Game Programming?
I'm pursuing a field in Game Programming(NOT GAME DESIGN) and I'm having a hard time finding a college in the state of florida that has this program. It's a very rare field, I found DeVry University and Full Sail. But I'm trying to find all of the colleges and make my desicion.
Give me the schools website. and if possible give me the requirements for admission, if you are a student please tell me your experiences
A: The two schools you found don't have very good reputations in this field. And the reason why you aren't finding this major at other, more reputable universities, such as U Florida, is because it's rarely a separate major. Instead, it's usually done as part of your focus in another major, such as software engineering or computer science (usually software). So, rather than focusing on game programming as a specific major, and ending up going to a crap school from which some employers refuse to hire, instead go to the best "real" university that you can get into. Major in software engineering. Find out what the specific skills and languages a game programmer needs, and major in a field that will provide you with those skills, such as software engineering. Do a co-op or internship in the field, and when you'll graduate, employers will be more likely to smile upon you.
Many software engineering students actually program games as exercises as they learn new languages and operating systems. It's very much a part of that major.
One of the best programs for software engineering is down in your region: Georgia Institute of Tech. You can also look at Virginia Tech, if you want to go that far north. Very good program. I can also, happily, highly recommend the program at the University of Florida, Gainesville.
I hope this helped.
