Q: Does any one play mens extra-mural hockey at any colleges in Ontario?
I noticed that there is no varsity mens hockey in Ontario colleges but there are extramural teams that enter tournements and play other colleges. Is this good hockey, are the teams hard to make it you play A/AA, and is it only tournaments or is there regular season games and play-offs?

A: there is a program called CIS ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Interuniversity_Sport ) that has mens ice hockey in Canada. they have an annual tournament called the University Cup. you can read more about the University cup here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_Cup hope this helps :)

Q: Does anyone know some good flight universities or colleges in Ontario?
I am just wondering about some good flight universities and colleges that are in Ontario. And i would like to know how you become a commercial pilot from that. Im guessing that after you graduate highschool, you go to the college/university and get your licences and rating while your getting your degree in aviation. Then after your done, you get a job as an instructor and build time to get a atpl.

A: Here's one. The University of Western Ontarion has an aviation management degree and you can get your CPL through their program. I have a friend who lives in Toronto that went there in the 80's and he has had a very successful flying career. Go to http://mos.uwo.ca/cam/ While you don't need to have a college degree to fly professionally, it helps you to be more competetive in the job market if you do. You don't need to learn to fly at a college or university, but if you can afford it this is a good way to go. The management degree also gives you something to fall back on if for some reason you cannot get a flying position or you lose your pilot medical, or you just plain decide to quit flying. In that case you need another skill, and business management is business management, no matter what field you work in. The best money in aviation is also made in management instead of being a line pilot, whether it is a flight school or a major airline, so I suggest you angle in that direction if money is what matters to you the most. A good place to get a head-start before you get your CPL is in "line service" (ramp rat) and you can work your way up from there once you get your pilot ratings. It's what I did and I now manage a small corporate flight dept. I get to fly almost as much the other pilots and I make substantially more money than they do for not a lot more extra work. The line service management experience I got 20+ years ago helped me get my current job which required some previous management experience. That's my two cents worth.

Q: Can someone please tell me of all the colleges in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada?
Because of certain situations, I'll be moving to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. And next year would be my first year in college. Which is why I want to know of all the colleges so I can hand in my school forms. However, for some reason, I'm having a hard time finding all the colleges that are in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. So can someone please list them for me, that would be really appreciated.

A: Also.... Ontario has a blanket application process (see website below), which will enable you to apply to several institutions at once (by location, if you wish). You don't have to use it, but it might help you identify schools you're interested in around the Hamilton area. If you're moving to Ontario from the United States, you need to know that the terms "college" and "university" are not interchangable in Canada like in the States. A "university" is where you want to go for a bachelor's degree. "Colleges" are typically similar to 2-year junior or community colleges in the U.S. You can find out more on the U.S. Students to Canada website below. Finally, check out the Study in Canada website. You can do a search by program and province and if you create an account you can add what schools you're interested in to a 'your favorites list'. Good luck and enjoy your upcoming adventure!

A: As a life-long resident of Hamilton I can certainly help you. If you are from Canada skip to the end of this answer. Not being aware where you are from, I'd have to know what you mean by 'College'. In Canada there are two types of major post-secondary educational institutions ... university and college. What US folks usually call college is university in Canada. That's where you earn degrees ... B.A., B.sc. etc. College in Canada usually means community college. That's not as high a level of education as university, but is aimed more to practical education ... i.e. computers, police and security, nursing, etc. They do not award degrees, but instead issue diplomas. They are usually from two to three years as opposed to 3 to 4 years for university. They also cost thousands of $ less. Hamilton is home to McMaster University, one of the most highly regarded in Canada. It's college is Mohawk College, very respected and it's well-trained graduates are regarded very highly by industy and employers. Both have very good websites that will help you out. If you would like more info please e-mail me at penguin_bob@yahoo.ca and I'll be happy to give you any more info that you may need. Cheers!!

Q: What are the best colleges and universities in Ontario?
Please help me. I want to go to a University in or near Toronto. Are the University of Windsor and Ryerson University good schools? What about colleges and Universities in the rest of Canada.

A: Choose the Unversity of Windsor, if you want the best of all worlds! U of W has the highest %age of foreign students from every part of the globe. This brings a mix of ideas unmatched in the world! The University of Windsor is 300km west of Toronto... and just 2 miles from major US city, Detroit "Motown", Michigan. Sport-wise the school attracks Detroi students, won OUAA track & men's basketball, and was in football play-offs. Academically, Winsor has a nice mix of brilliant international teachers and students, offering a wider view of issues that matter! U of W is adjacent to the handy Ambassador bridge to the USA, on the (safe) Canadian side of the (2 mile wide) Detroit River, home of the Pistons+Red Wings+Tigers, plus some world class attractions like Greenfield Village. The river provides a great view of a mega skyline, protection from the big city's troublemakers, and a nice close view of giant Lake Freighters! A perfect combination of a modest sized university AND city, next to a mega city (with all the advantages of the big city); just across the river from a "foreign" superpower, yet safely divided by the river, and protected by armed Canada Customs officers on the bridge and tunnel.

Q: Can I supply teach in Ontario without being a certified teacher?
I am currently at teachers college, and some of the students here are having a disagreement. Some say we cannot be supply teachers without joining the Ontario College of Teachers, which requires completion of teaching certification. Others think that we can supply teach now if we were able to find a board or a school willing to accept us. Can you help clarify for me what the reality is? (BTW, we are talking public school boards).

A: To teach in a public school you must have certification. The obvious exception is classroom practica as part of your education.
