Q: Can foreign students in New York colleges take up part-time paid work?
I'm planning to study in New York and take up a part-time job at the same time. Is it legal and is it easy to find a job that pays at least $7/hour? thanks for all your informative answers. but does that mean within the first year i won't be able to apply for any jobs at all? i really need a job because i only have enough savings for school fees & accommodation. what if i opt for a working visa and study part time instead? is that a more viable option?

A: I have never seen so many wrong and misinformed answers for one question before. Students on an F-1 visa are eligible to work on campus without authorization from USCIS only if they will not be displacing a U.S. citizen seeking employment. You are able to work 20 hours a week during the school year and 33 hours during vacation periods. For information about available on-campus jobs you should visit your University's website, employment office or speak to the international student adviser. Off-Campus work. For the most part, students on F-1 visas are not eligible to work off campus. On rare occasions exceptions to this rule are made if the student can show evidence that unforeseen circumstances have created an economic hardship which require him or her to work and there are no on-campus employment opportunities. To be eligible for this type of off campus employment you must have been a full-time student for at least one year.If this is the case, you must file for employment authorization. The OIP will provide you with the required forms and will submit the paperwork to USCIS on your behalf. NOTE - One of the requirements to obtain an F-1 visa is that you must furnish evidence of sufficient funds to cover ALL expenses including tuition, accommodation, books, living expenses, medical insurance etc while in the United States, without the need to take up employment to support or provide additional funds to support/help cover these costs. Finally, there is no option to "opt for a working visa and study part time". Another requirement of an F-1 visa in that you must enroll and stay in full-time education, failure to do will result in loss of status and deportation. Besides, you wouldn't qualify for a H-classification visa anyway.

Q: What are good colleges in new york city and florida?
I love the idea of living in new york city, and I love the warmth of florida. What are some good colleges in nyc and florida (preferably in southern florida). It can be a community college or a university, im smart and have a middle class family. Im only a junior in high school so I definitely should start looking now. Any suggestions will help thanx!

A: I do not recommend Johnson and Wales Miami campus-- its so ghetto and they charge an arm and a leg for shitty services. The education isn't bad, but the accommodations, the area its in, the school itself, is all really old and shady. I recommend: UCF- orlando Nova Southeastern- Ft. Laurderdale FL International Univ.- Miami St. Leo Univ.- Dade City New York Univ.(smart smart school)- Greenwich Village NYC SUNY- varied NY locations. I recommend you look at collegeboard.com and look for schools in those areas that have the major or classes your interested in taking. Also, if you get a chance, visit your top schools to make the best decision. I had started out hell-bent against going to the college I ended up visiting and loving! Once you've gotten all the facts, you'll know. And talk to admissions counselors with the different schools, they can also get you in touch with students who already attend so you get a well-rounded perspective of where you would fit in the best. Good luck!

Q: What community colleges in New York offer part-time/evening degree courses?

Q: What are some good colleges in New York that i can study Veterinary Medicine?
Im a freshmen in High School and i was wondering what good colleges there are in New York to study to be a Vet. I know i can get into a good college because im passing every class with 90's and 80's. I was also wondering what classes i should or need to do in order to study that, because i heard if you want to study medicine you should take Latin because most medicine is in Latin, and i was also wondering how long i should be in college to get a full degree in Vetinary Medicine. I dont want to go to a too expensive college either.

A: Vet school is a grad school. So, get into the best college you can. Pick a science major to make it easier to get into the classes required by Vet schools. Do well in college and make sure you fulfill all the requirements for vet school. If you need to save money, just go to a state school. I wouldn't take Latin just to understand medical terms better. Medicine isn't written in latin. Some words may have a latin base, but that's true for the English language in general. My wife and friends who are in the medical field never took Latin. It's unnecessary. I'm in law and I'm pretty sure there are more actual Latin phrases used than in medicine. Still wouldn't recommend taking Latin just to better be able to understand what those phrases mean. That's what a law dictionary is for.

A: SUNY - Empire State and Excelsior College are two of the best known nationwide for this sort of thing and they're both in New York. http://www.esc.edu http://www.excelsior.edu Of course, if you're doing 100% online with no residency, why not look around the country for the best fit since you won't be visiting anyway? ☺ also check out in NY - Ellis College of NYIT for accounting online. http://ellis.nyit.edu/schools/bachelors/accounting.php Also consider doing a master's instead. Depending on what your undergrad is in, you may be able to enter an MS in Accounting or an MBA with it. If you are wanting to become a CPA, make sure the program qualifies. Q: What are some good colleges in new york where I can get a degree in business management?
I absolutley love new york and i very much would love to go to school there! A: Well first of all, you need to decide about money and where you can go. If money is not a big issue, NYU is a good school. FIT has Advertising/Marketing as well as a bunch of Fashion majors with Business concentrations which might be good for what you eventually want to do. If money is an issue, consider CUNY colleges which are great! Baruch is a good Business School and they have many business majors and so do other CUNY colleges which are inexpensive but give you a great education. Good Luck!
