Q: What are some colleges offer good education programs?
I'm planning on majoring in secondary education in college (I want to teach high school History) and I can't find any colleges that have a good education program. Have you heard of any colleges that have a good education programs? If you list any colleges, (IF YOU KNOW IT) please put their website down on your source list. Thank you to everyone who contributes!

A: The first college/unversity I would suggest is the closest college/university in your area. Generally, the largest university to you has a education program that will fit your goals. If that school does not fit then here are my suggestions: University of Delaware, Newark , DE. Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA Albright College, Reading, PA Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ All of these schools have great programs in education. Good Luck in your search and your continuing education.

Q: What are some good education colleges?
Im looking to major in history education and couldnt find much on the internet. So i was wondering what are some good teaching schools in new england/ mid atlantic region. Thanks.

A: I had a friend who went to Teacher's College at Columbia and I know our Neag School of Education (UConn) is ranked like 21 or 22 in the U.S. News and World Report with our popular integrated bachelors/masters 5 year program. I have a few friends in that for elementary and special education. History ed would be under secondary and they like to see secondary ed cause elementary is most popular. I would guess college board would be able to tell you what schools have History education programs but i am not sure.

Q: What are the best colleges in the north east for a math education major?
I'm considering majoring in math education. I don't want to go to a lousy school, so I want to find the best colleges for education majors. Any and all answers are welcome, I'm not afraid of long lists. Thanks a lot :-)

A: Columbia University has the best school of education in the country. If the Ivy League is out of your reach, then look at public universities that are the best in their states. US News ranks education schools. The link is below.

Q: what are good colleges for an education major?
i want to major in elementary education. any good colleges, preferable in northeastern region or near there that can also provide teacher certification?

A: There is no point in going to a big name private school to study El Ed. You should be checking out the state colleges and universities in your state. Some private schools have education depts, but they teach the same courses that the state schools teach, and the state schools are really better set up for teacher training - they have closer ties to the community, get better practice teaching sites, and are closely tied to the state boards of ed so that you can be certain you are always up on the latest rules changes. Every state in the Northeast has a good state university, and several state colleges that would be great for you. In NH you could go to UNH or to Keene or Plymouth, or in Rhode Island there is RI College. UMass has multiple campuses as does UConn. These schools are respectable, do a good job, will give you what you need, and you will be ready to take over a class room four years after you start. Expecially important, you will not have to kill yourself with giant student loans that you have to pay back, the way you would if you attend a private college. Take a look. They are there for you.

Q: Do Ivy League universities really offer a better education than other lesser colleges?
Do these ivy league universities really offer a "better" education compared to other colleges or is it just their famous names that make them so desirable? Does the university you get your degree from really even make a difference when applying for jobs later on?

A: You can get the same education at a state school. No matter where you go what you get out of it will only be what you put into it. If you go to a state school and are a star(great grades, community service, excellent references, etc) it is still much better than going to an Ivy league school and being mediocre. If money is no object, go for it. If you have to go on student loans, be smart about it. Go to a state school and apply for grants (you don't have to pay those back); if you are not eligible for grants try to work and pay for as much as possible to keep your loans down. Really apply yourself as an undergrad and then go to a more prestigious school for grad school (if you are a star in undergrad, chances are you'll be offered close to a free ride in grad school). If all you have is a bachelor's degree no one cares where you went to school if you graduated, but they will wonder what you're going to do for grad school.

Q: What are the best colleges to study music education?
I have recently been looking at different colleges, I'm a sophomore in high school. I plan to major in music education, and possibly minor in performance. I have been looking into Berklee and I'm really wanting to go there, but I also want to have some back-up plans.

A: one of the best places to go is MI( Musicans Institute) they offer courses for recording, businuess, and you can get ceritfied in insturments such as bass, guitar, vocals, keyboard, and percussion. In hollywood. theres a 90% chance of getting an interenship if you graduate with an a-b average, it's 18 months and you can costumze your courses. go to their webpage @ http://www.mi.edu/index.aspx

Q: Do University's truly provide a better education then community colleges?
I attend a community college. When I tell people I attend a community college and not the local university, people act as though my education is no good. I hear them say, "Oh, you just go the JC" What most people fail to understand is that a good portion of my instructors teach for the local university and or have taught for others. So I feel I am getting the same education at a cheaper college, what do you think?

A: Be proud of your education. I started off at a community college (SFCC) before I moved to a university and alot of my professors taught at the adjoining university (Univ of Florida) or graduated from their. You are right..you are receiving your education at less of a cost but you will be no less prepared than they are. They are paying maybe triple, if not more, for general education courses that you are receiving. Big universities just aren't for everyone sometimes and that's a personal decision we all have to make. As long as you are succeeding in getting your education then you have nothing to worry about. Good Luck in your schooling.
