Q: colleges/universities?
does anyone know what colleges/universities are good for fashion design in the US and in Canada or where i can search???

A: Parsons in NYC is the most prestigious. There are others, such as the Fashion Institute in Chicago. But their credentials aren't nearly as good.

Q: What can colleges/universities do to help prevent violents acts from happening in school?
In the past few years there has been several shootings and other violent acts at colleges/universities around the United States. What can those institutions do to help stop these events from occurring? More security, metal detectors, check bags, etc? Also, state whether or not you're a college student, because that is an important factor. How much are you willing to give up privacy wise, to be (or feel) safer at school?

A: I'm not a college student but I have spoken up about this subject to my college professor friend several times in the past asking him this very question. I don't think the colleges really have the answers but if one was to look at the experts in the field of violence they will tell you to speak up to everyone who comes in contact with any youth who have been hurt. Work with friends, law enforcement, health care workers, schools, employers, and court systems to help young people recover emotionally as well as physically. Be there for them, spend more time with them, and listen if they want to talk about their feelings or worries. Injury is not just physical so give them a safe place to talk about how they feel, not just once but many times. If you see changes in eating, sleeping, energy, acting out, or seeming sad, get help from their school counselor, minister, doctor, or nurse practitioner. Even finding little ways to reduce everyday stress and to make things safer can make a difference. If you have been hurt, being able to forgive wrongs, no matter how small, can help end a cycle of anger. Start small and help children and adults practice this. Let police, prosecutors, clerks and judges know that you are concerned about guns. Show up at sentencing. Let everyone know that even small gun crimes affect your daily life and that you expect them to focus on gun and violent crimes. A strong moral compass and caring about others not only makes people happier, but also makes it easier to weather bad times. Help young people learn to live by principles of fairness and respect. So my point is we can increase security, more metal detectors, more inspections, etc.,etc. but the real answers lie in how we reach out and help our fellow friends, students and neighbors for if we choose to turn the other cheek sort of speak, we just might be the next victim looking down the barrel of a gun. And that's not a very nice prospect in the security of my life and that of our fellow neighbors.

Q: What colleges/ universities would you recommend a person who wants to major in International Business? ?
I want to major in International Business and minor in Marketing and Computers. Which universities or colleges offer it? For a person with a B average in high school.

A: International business is attractive for it's dual nature of language, if you want to have a ranked list of IB schools look it up on World News and Report, College Board, or Princeton Review, however the more important topic is the cultural aspect of learning a different language and learning to understand all the intricacies of another culture.

Q: What are some colleges/universities that have a pre-med program?
It would be great if it is around or in New York. A beautiful campus, no greek system, is not in the middle of nowhere, i would prefer SUNY and/or CUNY, but you can suggest private universities/colleges. Now about extracurricular, it really does not matter. Whatever the university/college have will be fine with me.

A: Pretty much any general university/college offers premed unless it is a fashion or art college. Pre-med just means you take the classes that med schools require; and you can major in anything (although science field is easiest). You can find out the pre-reqs at the nearest med school & then see if those classes are offered at the school you wish to attend. Generally pre-med classes are biology, bio chem, p-chem, calculus, physics, statistics; classes like that. They are pretty much the same for all med schools. I am sure SUNY and CUNY both will fit the bill.

Q: How hard is getting to good colleges(universities)?
I need to know what must be done to be accepted to good colleges(universities).

A: Studying and getting good grades in high school certainly help. Excellent SAT and ACT test scores, also. Check the web sites of colleges you are interested in and see what their test score requirements are. It also helps to be a 'well rounded' student. That means get involved in various activities in and out of school - sports, band, clubs, volunteer work - the more, the better.

Q: If I graduate in 2009 when should I start applying to colleges/universities???
Please add specific details in what I should do and what I should send to the colleges/universities. Also what SAT scores are reasonable for acceptance????

A: actually everything depends on what college you are planing to apply too. for ex, for uc riverside a 1500 sat score is acceptable, but for uc berekeley, you need over 2000. but i think if you manage to get a 1900 then you should be fine for whatever you apply too. most colleges open their applications in fall, so check in like august or sept to see when the application is do for the colleges you want to apply to.
