Q: Help with applying to colleges and universities?
Okay, I'm starting to look into colleges/ universities and making up a list to see which ones I should apply to. However, most of the ones that I really want to go to are pretty selective of their students, so I need some safety schools. My GPA for junior year was 4.60 because I had four AP classes. I'm on the track/ cross country team. I'm involved in the National Honors Society (active member) since freshman year. I also volunteer. My SAT score is 1900, but I'm planning to retake it one more time. My ACT score is 28 (retake again). My SAT II scores are decent, but I have also decided to retake those, as well. I'm also involved in the student government since sophomore year and have worked my way up to vice president. For a student like me, do you have any suggestions on what should be my safety schools? I live in California and would perfer to stay here, but if the school is out of state, I would go. I'm thinking of going into the pharmacy area, so does anyone have any suggestions? I need schools that I'm pretty sure I can get into, just incase I'm not accepted into the schools I want. No jokes, please. Thanks!!

A: As interesting as college was, I'm glad I don't have to relive the admission process again today. I started college in 1999, not so long ago, but I don't think it was this hectic, even then. What kind of school do you want to go to, and what do you want to study? My advice is to stop thinking too much about prestige, and apply to schools you really feel comfortable at and that have programs you're interested in. If you want a big school with lots of variety, go to a big school. If you're like me, and you want a small school with lots of interaction with professors, do that. This, of course, is null in void if you need to go to a prestigious school to get into an even more prestigious grad/medical/law school.... but don't lose your sanity doing it. Good luck. (I can recommend a few small schools in Socal if that's what you're interested in.)

Q: Which colleges/universities would you suggest i look into?
The universities that i've already looked at and like include UMASS Amherst Boston University Northeastern University Boston College and possibly Brandeis University. What colleges/universities would you suggest i look into based on the characteristics of the ones i listed? I'd like to stay in the New England area.

A: Based on those universities, you may also like: - Tufts - Syracuse - NYU - Ithaca - Fordham - U Vermont - UNH - Providence College Some of these are harder to get into (like Brandeis) than others (Tufts, NYU). But most of them are more along the BU/BC/UMass Amherst/Northeastern range re: GPA and etc, and each has something similar to the vibe of one or the other of those schools. I know, I went into NY on some of those, but you may actually like some of the ones I'd suggested there.
