Q: College/university?
I am currently in grade 8 going on 9. I was wondering when you started to think about which college/university you would attend. and which proffesion you would choose. i want to go to harvard or something good like that. are scholarships really hard to get?
A: You sound mature, but don't over do it. It's okay to get an idea of where you want to do, but that's not what is important right now.
Going into your freshman year, you need to be concentrating on getting the absolute best grades you possibly can. Become involved in organizations outside the classroom. Become a leader. Make yourself into someone who is unique and able to stand above the rest of the crowd. You have three years to become a person that a university will want to accept. Make these three years count.
Scholarships can be challanging, but not impossible. Many or financial need based. However, there are a few merit based scholarships as well. Best wishes~
Q: college? university?
im from singapore and i need to know at what age does a college student graduate from college or junior college or whatever to go to university... and to pursue university overseas, how is the application like? about how long will it take? and is local or foreign universities better? any suggestions and advice? pls help...
A: In the United States you typically graduate from high school at age 18. You begin college later that year. If you go right through junior college you will be about 20 when you graduate. If you go right through a 4-year university you will be 22 when you graduate.
There are a lot of exceptions though. A lot of people take time off between high school and college. A lot of people take longer to graduate, and some graduate early.
Q: How can i find out if a college/university is reputible?
I am looking to get a MA in Counseling Psychology and I am looking at colleges/universities that will improve my odds of getting hired. I have seen Argosy University and I am wondering if it is like another Phoenix University or if it is actually a decent college. I am looking for colleges/universities on the East Coast. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!
I am looking for a college that specializes in counseling psychology though.
A: I sure hope you don't mean University of Phoenix. then it's a waste.
Q: What's the best college/university to attend to become a teacher?
I am currently in high school and am looking at colleges/universities. I want to be a history/social studies teacher and I was wondering what college/university is best to got to for this profession.
A: Some areas are desperately in need of teachers and will offer to pay for your schooling if you sign a contract to teach in that area for a specified amount of time. My friend is going to school to become a teacher and the public school system of Gary, Indiana offered to pay for everything if she would work there. It will most likely be in crappy areas, but the cost of college is so expensive for the amount you will make when you get out of school.
Q: What is the best online college/university to earn your Bachelors degree?
I know about University of Phoenix, but it is too expensive. Also please don't mention those colleges always advetised on TV, I want a college/university which is recogzined and respected nationally and/or international.
Has anyone ever got a degree doing online classes?
A: check out http://go4onlinedegree.googlepages.com/ hope the information there would be helpful to you
You can have some tips on selecting the right college and list of top accredited universities etc.. @ http://go4onlinedegree.googlepages.com/
Q: Where can I find information on a college/university with a good Pharmacy program?
I live in Middle Tennessee and I am interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy. I would like to find a college/university that offers a good pharmacy program, and I am not against going to school out-of-state (though in-state schools are preferrable). Any information, especially from personal experience, will be much appreciated. A website, list, or the like would be much appreciated.
A: Try this web site it might help

Q: How does a college/university attain that, umm, position?
I want to know how a college/university becomes a college/university. What the process is, who they have to meet with, what program's requirements they have to pass.
A: Essentially, it takes money. A large sum of money, called an endowment, is given to the prospective school and invested. The earnings on that investment go to operate the school. The classic way a school is formed is that a group of scholars get together (into a 'college,' if you will) pool their personal libraries into a college library, hire some people to help administer the place, rent space in a building, print a catalog, and open for business. Most states in the US require a license to run a school, though the Federal government does not. Essentially you have to show that you'll be giving something of value to the students in exchange for their tuition money, and you also have to agree to comply with various non-discrimination and building-safety laws. Later on, you can apply to one of the regional accreditation agencies to have your school's credits accepted by others.
And that's about it. The college is structured as a non-profit corporation, with a board of directors and all that.
Q: What happens if you get rejected to the college/university you applied to?
You didn't get into that college because your GPA in high school wasn't good enough, do you have to get your GPA up in college (what kinda of college?) and then you can transfer to that other college/university you wanted to go to?
you can transfer after one semester in a community college-how? really?
A: Not usually. Most people apply to a number of universities, and get rejected by some and, if they are lucky, accepted by one or more. Most then go to another university if they are rejected by their first choice. A few may go to a community college for two years and apply as a transfer student to their first choice, but it really depends on what your first choice was. If it was an elite school, your chances of getting in as a transfer student are usually very slight, but you have a better chance if you were trying to get into a state university or a lesser school. Most people, though, once they start at another four-year college stay there for the full four years.
Q: How does the college-university system work?
I'm from Mexico, but I've seen that americans go to college first and then to University, I want to apply but I don't understand How it works, do I need to choose and apply for a college first? or is it the same? Please explain is almost time to decideee...
A: College and university are sometimes interchangeable words. A community college is usually a college for freshmen and sophomores. There are also a few four year colleges where you earn a bachelor's degree, then have to go elsewhere if you want to earn a graduate degree (Masters). A university is a college for freshman through graduate students.
Many students never go to a "college" but to a full university directly out of high school. Decide on which school (either college or university) you want to attend, and complete the application for that school.
Q: What is a good college/university for photojournalism, and what courses in highschool would I have to take?
I am a grade nine student, thoroughly enjoyed by photojournalism. I was wondering what university/college would be good for persuing this. It doesn't matter where the school is, as long as it will get me on the top of my game! Thank you.
A: Art institute of Atlanta is amazing. So much history as well. Take photograph and be on the yearbook team or the school newspaper. Or just show up to events, write and snap, then send your work to local papers and such. Use your imagination.
Q: What is the best way to become a great storyteller/writer without going to college/university?
I want to learn to become a great writer/storyteller (for film) and study english literature. I am planning on going to university for film. I would like to go to school for literature as well but I simply can not afford to goto college/university twice. I would like to know if anybody has some advice or where I should start to be come a great writer/storyteller and to learn all about english literature.
A: Yeah, its definitely not an either/or situation, but I also feel like you can't simply learn how to be a good writer just from college - it can only provide you with form and organizational skills.
Anyways, I'm an english lit major and our sister department is film studies. A lot of the time for film classes you'll have to write a lot anyway, whether its a synopsis or plot line for your film or an essay, so you'll get plenty of practice writing. So I'd say stick with film and just try to minor in english lit, or least take a few survey courses - you'll probably have the time if you plan on doing a full 4 year bs.
For quickie info on literature or writing, I'd look into college/university workshops. They're in different formats: some are genuinely workshops where you share material and get feedback, some are more informational lecture type workshops. They're usually meetings/classes that are held over 1 day (or a few days depending on the one you choose). Of course there are fees, and those depend on what it is - Columbia and Chicago University's workshops in editing and journalism are substantially more money, but probably more informative, too.
Also, in whatever college you go to, check out the schools certificates - they're usually only 5 or 6 classes like a minor but can broach more things like english writing, journalism or some type of regional lit. Hope that helps.
Q: I am looking for a college/university that offers a major in visual communications, any recommendations?
I have been looking for a college/university that offers a degree in visual communications, preferably a 4 year school(not online). Any expeirences with this?
A: Where do you live
William Paterson College in Wayne, NJ
Good school graduated in 1977 journalism degree.
some of the recent grads are now talk show hosts on ESPN and WFAN in NY. And also on Fox News Cable.
Q: What career/ college (or university) would you recomend for me?
I am 16 years old and I will be a junior in the school year of 2008-2009, I am into computers and want a job that i have to work on computers. I have a lot of experience with Mac's and some experience with PC's. So what do you think would be a good career for me? And what College/ University would you recomend?
Thank you.
Right now I have a 3.85 GPA
A: how are your grades? MIT would be the best university to attend for computers....
Q: How do people get A's in college/university?
I just don't get it. I study but i just can't get an A in my life at this college. I go to class and listen to what the prof says too. There's this guy who doesn't go to class, he just listens to lecture recordings and he gets like almost perfect on exams and stuff. He plays video games and stuff too. I'm so jealous of him for his smart brain. :[ Can people who get A's in college/university share their tips please?
A: We're not all equal. Some people are smarter than others. Less smart people can make up some ground by working harder. Think of it in terms of sports. A less talented player need to practice harder than a more talented player. At the highest level, you need both talent and hard work to succeed.
Don't worry about other people. Focus on being the best that you can be (in the army or elsewhere). Unfortunately, there's not shortcut.
Q: Can I NOT list a previously attended college/university when applying to a new institution?
Previously attended a university. Grades were really bad. Want a second chance at persuing a degree. Wanting to know if it's possible to apply to a different school as an entering freshman with no college background? Would that do my harm than good?
A: There are other ways to overcome this situation.
If the purpose for a second degree is to ultimately go for a masters then a better option would to enhance your GPA by taking some courses.
However, if you are changing your major and need only the first degree for progressing towards your goal then you may start as a freshman / transfer student. You may get some waivers for the courses already undertaken as such a mention of details of the earlier degree shall be useful.
