Q: california college?
what are a few good (like uc davis) but not great (like stanford or berkeley) colleges in california that have a very kind of cozy atmosphere...kind of like all of the students go to sports games and live on campus and stuff unlike colleges where many of the students live off campus and just go to school but not participate in events that go on in the campus
sorry if its kind of confusing..i didnt really know how to explain it
A: Depends on what you want to spend--but smaller colleges are very cozy--the Claremont Colleges (Pomona, Pitzer etc group); I went to (and so did Barak Obama) Occidental College; where everyone lives in dorms and goes to movies on campus and eats in the union etc.
Q: How to apply to a California college with a international HS diploma? Special circumstances?
I grew up in California and have a green card, SSN and all that. Now I live in Germany and will graduate from school here with a German Abitur. Is there any way I can apply to a California college as an in-state student?
Thanks
A: You can't be an in-state CA student. You actually have to be a resident of California - living in CA, with you or your parents paying taxes, registered to vote, paying a mortgage/rent, working, etc. - in order to do that. Since you will obviously have been living in Germany, you won't qualify.
You can apply to California colleges as a non-resident, and pay non-resident tuition.
Q: Which California college is better for majoring in zoology?
I'm attending community college in the fall, but I figured its probably better to know which university I want to transfer to ASAP.
I've pretty much narrowed it down to CSU Long Beach, or Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Any other suggestions and reasons would be fine though. I just want to make sure that I'll go to one that has a good (if not top of the line) zoology program.
It would be especially helpful if you yourself are currently majoring in zoology in a California college, or go to one of the above colleges.
A: I earned my zoology degree at Cal Poly, Pomona (sister school to SLO) and really liked the classes offered under this major. I assume both schools probably have similar course requirements. Sorry, cannot compare to Long Beach, am not familiar with their classes, etc. I actually did not even know they offered a zoology major even though I live in So. California...not sure if that says something about their program or not.
Q: When is Spring Vacation Palm Springs California, College of the Desert?
I need to know when Spring Vacation is, for the College of the Desert, in Palm Springs California.
Is it in March or April?
Do you have a link to an academic calendar that has this information?
A: You can access their academic calendars on this page, as PDFs.

Q: How is college life at UCLA or in California period?
I like to write fictional stories and the one that I am working on now takes place at a California College (UCLA). I don't know anything about California anyway so any information, even if it seems insignificant to you, will help me. Thanks.
QUESTIONS 2 GET U STARTED
1.)Dorm Life
2.)Things to do at college
3.)Things to do around the city
4.)The people
5.)Trends
6.)Some things that you like to do
7.)The environment
8.)The Weather (sunny, of course) but is there something else I should know about it?
9.)Everyday Life
A: One of my best friends and an ex graduated from UCLA so I'll give you any information I have, being a southern californian born and raised.
Your Questions:
1) Dorm life is crazy. Parties, all the time, especially if your pledging a sorority or fraternity. My friend moved into a neighboring apartment with her sorority sisters their sophmore year, and although they all had boyfriends already so they weren't as crazy, the parties and functions still happened. There was studying but mostly during the cruinch of finals week.
2) There are lots of things to do like pledging for sorority, fraternities, joining clubs like the drama, writing and there are also plenty of cultural clubs ect. You can also join the sports clubs. UCLA has one of the best women's and Men's teams nationally.
3) There are lots of things do around Westwood. There's a place called Westwood Village, and there are movie theatres that always have premiers and late night showings. Also plently of shops and dining.
4) Because of the University there is a large varity of people living over in that area. However Westwood has a lot of Armenian and Middle Eastern people in that area.
5) Most LA trends include wholistic healing, alternative medication, yoga, excersize, organic everything etc. Outward beauty etc. There is also a great multicultural trend push out here especially bringing awareness to Latino art and artists. Very cool.
6) I love to go to the theatre (not movies) the beach, shopping, and because LA is so central I love to take road teips to San Diego, Vegas, San Francisco and Rosarito (Mexico) but my favorite is Disneyland!!! Yes, I'm a big kid at heart.
7) The environment varies quite a bit depending on the neighborhood. You have areas that are posh like Beverly Hills and Brent wood, you have the suburbs, the Valley the San Gabriel Vally etc. You have areas like chinatown that are predominantly asian, litttle armenia, east LA which is mostly latino, etc. Hollywood is crazy and nastolgic but I wouldn't be there late at night, by myself anyway. You also have areas that have become srtists hubs, not because they are wealthy neighborhoods but because of the beautiful architexture and the craftsman homes.
8) The weather is muld most of the time, hotter in the valleys and cooler by the beaches. It stays mostly between 75-89. It's been increasingly muggly lately, and boy do we need the rain!!!
9) Everyday life can vary depending on your occupation. Angelinos do not depend much on Public transportatrion as NYers do. You know that son "nobody wals in LA" well it's true. That's why the freeways are so crowded. And because the homes are so expensive over here a great number of people have purchased their homes far way from the city and commute in. I have a friend who works at a television studio and commutes 2 1/2 hours everyday to work, both ways so a total of 5 hours on the road a day. I live in a small cottage which I rent and I also commutte to work. I am an actress but I also have a 7-5pm job in Downtown LA. My commute is not as harowing as my friends. It's only about 30 min. I work, rehearse my lines at lunch and break times (when I'm not on yahoo answers) and go to rehearsal afterward. Were doing a show right now so my time is pretty tied up but on my free days I do slow down and take the time to spend some quality time with family and friends, and of course boyfriend (they are soo needy (hee) anyhow life can get crazy down here but LA still sleeps at night unlike Vegas and NY. I hope this helps you. Good luck on your writing endeavours.
Q: Ohio to California for college, what is the best approach to gain residency and is it a good idea?
Im planning on either attending a UC school or a community college in California, however i currently live in Ohio.
What's the best approach to gain in-state tuition? and is it better to attend a community college for one year and gain residency by leasing property, gain a job etc.. then transfer to a UC school?
but..
some people say it is not possible to gain residency by attending a community college for one year and a few days?
your thoughts on this will be appreciated :) thanks
A: Getting in-state tuition rates requires proof that you've lived in California for several years.
No getting around it, dude.
Q: Am I crazy for deciding to move to California after College and starting my life over?
Am I crazy for deciding to move to California after College and starting my life over?
I don't know anyone in California but I feel like this is a change that I need to do and I am just tired of living in the Northeast region. I want to be where there are nice beaches with low humidity. That's why I did not choose Florida. Plus Florida has low paying jobs. So am I crazy?
A: why would that make you crazy its a great thing to start over to see new places to meet new people I've started over many times in places i didn't really know people that's not crazy its bold brave exciting and fun good luck I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for and if not there some where just don't lose the spirit to try some thing new or somewhere new
Q: Can a California Community College student take a single class at a CSU or UC prior to admission?
I have heard that California community college students can take a class or two at a CSU or UC before being admitted. Is this true and does anyone have any information about it? My problem is I cannot find a calculus class that fits my schedule and I don't mind paying extra if I can take it SJSU. I could call admissions, but just wanted to check if anyone has heard about this program.
A: Yes you can, or at least you were able to in the past.
I signed up for 3 before I was officially enrolled in my major.
Absolutely contact the school right away.
You might find that you can take a couple which would be cooler than going to a CC.
If that doesn't work, enroll in a different CC. There are so many in the bay area. There's SJCC, Evergreen, DeAnza, Foothill, Ohlone, and a bunch more. One of them is bound to offer a class that fits your schedule better. Or go to multiple schools. My friend did that.
Q: Who has the best health insurance in California for college students?
I am a full time college student, and I am looking for health care insurance, but I'm not for sure which to go for. I was looking up Blue Shield of California, Health net, and Kaiser, but I'm new to this.
A: I'm not a big fan of HMO's, such as Kaiser, where you have a gate keeper system in place. A gatekeeper system is where you have your personal care physician "PCP" and you have to go through that doctor to get anywhere else (such as OB/GYN, cardiologist, etc.). I do like PPO or POS plans (Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Health Net), AETNA) as I can choose my own physician and I don't usually have to go through them to get a consult with another specialist.
When choosing an insurance company at any point in your life, you need to know what you can afford and what your needs are. Find out exactly what each plan covers and doesn't cover, how high of a deductible (the amount out of pocket you will have to pay before your insurance kicks in), what your co-pay will be (flat fee or a percentage of the office visit) and if vision, dental and psychiatric care is covered. An insurance broker may be able to assist you with finding the best coverage for you as well as explain the benefits of each policy.
You may also want to make a trip to your school's health department. Some schools offer a low cost health insurance plan or can refer you to a reliable broker. Depending on your age and if your parents are a part of your live, you may want to check with them. If they have insurance through work, you may be able to get coverage under their plan as you are a full time college student.
Good luck!
Q: Is Art Institute California Design College any good?
I am looking into design schools to attend so that I can get a foundation in design (for my GD career). A lot of the good ones require a portfolio (which I don’t have) so I need to find schools that don’t have that as a entry requirement. One of the one’s I found is Art Institute California Design College. Anybody know if this school is any good?
A: I know it's a little pricey. I think it is in LA. You might want to request some information on them, and maybe check rate my professor?
Q: California and College Tuition Tax Deduction?
Hello. Does anyone know if College Tuition is tax-deductible in the Stae of California for state taxes, not Federal ones. Any help would be great. Thanks!
A: No
Q: Which California Community College has the best transfer rate to USC?
I am from Northern California and I would like to go to USC but I want to take a year or two at a community college before I make that move. Which community college has the easiest and highest transfer rate?
A: Orange Coast College has a good transfer rate.
Q: California Design College for inertactive media design, what do you think?
My daughter is looking at a career in interactive media design. This college she is interested in is California Design College in Los Angeles. It is one of the Art Institutes. Does anyone have any opinions on this school or others in that area of study? Thank you!
A: Art Center College of Design is the top design school in Southern California. If she hasn't applied there she should consider it.. if her portfolio is good enough... and she can swing the tuition.
Q: Anyone know the reputation of California College of the Arts?

Q: Where is a good college in California to persue a writing career?
I was wondering where a good college university in California is for writing.
I would like to one day be an author or screenplay writer.
Thank you!
A: If you're interested in screenwriting, USC and UCLA are probably the best. Both schools are quite difficult to get in, so good luck!!
