Q: College.....?
Okay so here's another question. I'm just full of questions today. haha, anyways. I'm starting college classes for the summer on the 27th which i'm so excited about, but i'm really wanting to do better in my college career than in my highschool. I want to become a nurse so i know i HAVE to do better. any studying tips? or planning tips? anything really.

A: 1. Do your homework! You may have been able to get by in high school without doing your homework (or doing it during class the period before it was due), but in college, the value of the practice right after class cannot be ignored. You'll be able to do the homework because you just learned the concept, and the homework will solidify it in your brain. 2. Schedule projects to be done before the due date. If you have a project that is due in four weeks, plan it out so you'll be done in 3. This way, if something interferes (another class gets crazy), you'll have some adjustment time. 3. Review your class notes from the day every evening. Fill in what you remember or clarify what doesn't quite make sense when you review. 4. Buy used books whenever possible. Flip through the book to see that the previous owner wasn't obsessed with highlighters! (You should see key ideas highlighted, not entire paragraphs.) 5. Enjoy your social life, but not to the total distraction of classwork. Stay safe. Travel with a friend after dark and keep to main thoroughfares (don't walk between desolate buildings to take a short cut.) Good luck, and ENJOY!

Q: What Christian college should I go to if I want to get into the music industry?
Hey everybody. Right now I'm a (female) sophomore in high school in Omaha, NE. I'm trying to figure out where I want to go to college. I'm planning on working in the music industry when I graduate. I know of a Christian college called Evangel in Springfield, MO that offers a "Bachelor of Science in Music Industry". I want a program like that, but I also think it would be good if there was a record label near my college so I could possibly work as a college representative. Do any of you know where there are any Christian colleges with a good music industry program, AND a record label nearby so I could possibly work there while I'm in college?

A: Belmont University in Nashville, TN would be perfect. They offer a Bachelor of Music Business. Most Christian music record labels are situated in the heart of Nashville. Some that I know of include: Word Music (featuring artists like Amy Grant, Randy Travis, David Phelps, Point of Grace, Jaci Velasquez among many others), Sparrow records, Forefront Records, the list goes on and on. I had a friend who went to Belmont and received a music business degree and interned at a local Christian music label while she was in school and is not only working for them but also recording/releasing cd's/and opening for bands.

Q: How to choose a college when you have a learning disability?
How does someone go about choosing a college when you have a learning disability? Is it better to go to a community college or to a four year college or university? My friend who has a learning disability has been looking into both community college and four year college. He thinks that a four year college offers students alot more help than a community college?

A: good question!

Q: What college is the best for studying the accounting profession in the state of Michigan?
I am considering a college change. I have just earned my Associates at Baker College of Flint. I was wondering if there is a more credible college here in Michigan that may be recognized if I search for a job outside of the state or if I were to move further up north. I realized that most of my professors with degrees and CPA certifications have gone to the University of Michigan. Would I be seen as a more credible candidate if I went to U of M instead of Baker? Would it look bad to get my degrees (Associate and Bachelor) from two different colleges? I would appreciate professional answers.

A: You want to get yoru Bachelor's degree from the best institution possible and with the best grades you can achieve. You will have access to more corporate recruiters and a better alumni network if you attend the University of Michigan, so I would advise you to go there.

Q: What college is best for going into physical therapy?
I'm thinking about going into physical therapy and i was just wondering what college has a good PT program and why? i already have a few in mind but i'm just wondering about other people's thoughts. I live in the midwest and probably won't be traveling outside of the midwest unfortuantely. ummm..as far as colleges go i don't mind if its public or private or the size of the school or the city it is in. As long as the college isn't in St. Louis.

A: Purdue has a great PT program and it is in the midwest.

Q: What colleges in the eastern part of the United States have a college softball team?
If you can, can you name the colleges? I need to see if I can achieve a softball scholarship to a good college that isnt to far from home.

A: According to collegeboard.com, there are 991 schools in the Eastern US that have softball. I don't know if this link will work, but will try: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/servlet/advsearchservlet?buttonPressed=next&navigateTo=9 If you want a more narrowed down list, go to college matchmaker: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/index.jsp

Q: What college grades are transferable to good college?
I am in my second semester in community college, and I am taking 18 credits. If I got C on one of my classes as philosophy, will I be able to transfer this class to another good college? It 3 credit class. Generally what they are looking for?

A: it depends on the school you would go to. and i think it is easier to transfer if you get your associates first ... but i'm not 100% sure. it really all depends on the school. some will take a C

Q: Whats the difference between Oxford College of Emory and Emory College?
Whats the difference between Oxford College of Emory and Emory College? I am really confused by this because I really want to get into Emory University and I dont understand this. Emory college accpets 27 percent applicants and oxford accepts 56 percent but by junior year they go to emory. I dont understand this. Is Oxford college like UTSA where u waste a year to go to UT or is it just the same thing. SOmeone please tell me.

A: Oxford College is a smaller (about 700 students) 2-year "branch campus" where the students automatically continue onto main campus as long as they have a 2.5 GPA. It is also much easier to get in than main campus (Emory College). The Oxford campus was the original campus for Emory University many years ago before it moved to Atlanta. The Oxford campus is in Oxford,GA about 45 minutes from main campus. The school is not very well known, but its popularity is gaining quickly. Some consider it a "back-door" to main campus Emory and tend to look down on it.

Q: what aviation college I should go to?
I am going to Loyola Academy high school and I am in the college selection process of which aviation college I should pick go to. I am planning to go to Embry Riddle or University of north dakota. If you guys have any sugggestions which one or any schools you know, please tell me. I am very grateful if you can answer this. P.S. or should I go to college and get another degree and then go to, lets say, ATP or Delta connection Academy?

A: I went to Western Michigan University.. I thought it had a great program.. The people there are great too.. I made some great connections for the future.. Plus those connections got me my first job with minimum hours and higher pay than most other grads.. Go to a real university, not Embry.. If you go to Embry, you'll miss out on the college experience..

Q: Is a college education still the most important indication of future success or income?
I was looking at the Forbes 400 richest and a lot didn't go to college or finish. So many people don't work in the area they study. On the other hand even now after being out of college for years I am tempted to take college classes in the area I work.

A: i think those are exceptional cases. having a college degree will definitely increase your chances for the job you want...and extra classes cant hurt either. Id say go for it. Especially if your company will pay for some of it, or reimburse you. Check into that. My sister didnt work in the field she majored in but she still has a good job- some things she learned are intertwined

Q: Is a college diploma in Computer Programming sufficient to get me a good paying job?
Only Canadians, please, because in other countries 'college' means a different thing. I will be graduating with a Geography degree from Wilfrid Laurier next year and I wanted to do GIS. I'm thinking that getting a diploma in college in computer programming will increase my chances for succesfull employment because I looked around at GIS jobs, and most of them require high computer proficiency. Also, are Canadian colleges as recognized world wide as universities? Thanks.

A: It doesn't matter what diploma. A diploma alone is not sufficient for anyone to be certain of getting a good paying job. As the previous person said, you have to have experience. You also have to prove your diploma is more than a piece of paper. You have to show you actually learned something and didn't only do just enough on tests to pass. You have to interview well. People who interview poorly rarely get hired. When they do get hired, they often get hired into poor jobs. You have to have some idea of what you want to do and why. The answer cannot be money. Technology employers don't want people who just want to make money. It sound like you have a plan that makes sense, though. Good luck.

Q: How good of a college is Farmingdale State University?
Is 55.2% a high acceptance rank or not? I havent heard anything about this college and have no idea if this college is any good or not. I want to go there for Architectual Engineering and this is one college, of very few, in a relatively close area to where I live, CT. I want to go to a good to difficult college and would like some insight.

A: Information is below.

Q: How long are my college courses good for if I dropped out?
I'm 30yrs old and contemplating returning to college. I attended a local community college and accumulated approximately 60 units. I majored in Business Admin and fulfilled most of my lower undergrad requirements for transfer. I stopped attending college in 1998. If I decide to go back to school will most colleges/universities give me credit? Or do I need to take everything all over again?

A: College credits don't expire, per se. They may lose relevance, especially if you are in a technology-related field, but they don't go anywhere. Even if some schools want to say that they "expire"...you can usually take some sort of departmental exam or get credit for life and work experience to make up for the "lost" credit. However, if you transfer to a different school, they may not accept your credits towards your new major. They may post some of them as electives, because they do not meet the requirements of your new school's curriculum. Some colleges also require you to take a certain number of credit hours in residence at their school before they'll give you a degree. This means if it takes 120 credits to graduate and you have 116, but they require you to have at least 30 credits in residence, that you need to take 30 more credits...which will bring you to a total of 146 credits at least. The question is...can you just go back to your prior school and finish there? Then you'd have alot less to lose, and you'd finish your degree more quickly. Best of luck to you.

Q: How many recommendations for college should one high school teacher write?
I don't know how clear I am going to make this, but I'm just wondering how many recommendations a teacher should write. I'm planning on applying to quite a few colleges, so should I ask one teacher to write the same recommendation for each college? Or should I ask a different teacher for each college I apply to? I can't exactly ask a teacher to write one and make copies of it, since most colleges give you a recommendation form with the application that the teacher should fill out. Thanks for your answers!

A: I am a high school teacher. I get lots of requests for recommendations for colleges from my students. Here are suggestions. 1) Put the request in writing. It does not have to be a formal letter to the teacher, but in our busy days, a casual "Hey Mr. G, can you write a recommendation for me?" is easily forgotten. 2) With the request, include the form if there is one. I usually only write "see attached" on such forms anyway. I will write my recommendations on my high school's letterhead. 3) I will ask the student if they want it to a specific institution or just a general one. If they need a specific institution or two, I do not mind as it is a simple thing to change as I type my letters on a computer. 4) Is students want general recommendations, I will actually print 3 or 4 of them and sign them separately so the student has 3 or 4 "originals." no need to copy. If they find they need more, I save my letters to disk. They just come by and I print and sign another. Good Luck applying to college. Don't sweat the small stuff like who to ask for these letters. Teachers are usually more than happy to write them for good students...now if you were not a good students....LOL

Q: How can you move Sims 2 college-bound students back to their original home for college?
I have most of the expansions installed. Recently installed Freetime with the Desiderata Valley neighborhood. I started a family in the new Freetime neighborhood..then after raising a certain amount of kids, they were ready for college. I sent them off to college. However, I am unable to get them back to the starting home for them to go to college from there. I've tried everything I could think of, in relation to getting them 'home' for college, but with no luck. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

A: you can only move them back when they graduate, unless they drop out =]
